A dull sound echoed against the door. Three distinct knocks, followed by silence.
— Mia?
Cid waited, hoping for an answer, but only stillness replied. He exhaled softly, placed a hand against the door, and spoke again, his voice lower this time:
— I'm sorry about Lara's behavior. She shouldn't have spoken to you like that…
Still nothing. He pressed his lips together, debating whether to insist, then sighed.
— Listen, I'm going out for a bit. If you need me, you can call me or Rose, okay?
Silence again. Disappointed, he cast one last glance at the closed door before turning on his heels and walking away.
Silence reigned in Mia's room, broken only by her uneven breathing. Curled up on her bed, she felt crushed under the weight of Lara's words, which echoed again and again in her mind like sharp blades. She closed her eyes, trying to push the thoughts away, but they clung to her, relentless.
After a long moment, she suddenly sat up and took a deep breath. Staying locked up here wouldn't help. Maybe a walk would clear her mind.
She put on a light jacket and left without a clear destination, letting her steps guide her along with her thoughts.
