Chapter 232 - Chapter 236 ⤞ The Murder in Rivira

The 18th Floor of the Dungeon is known as a safe zone.

Unlike a virtual world with absolute system-enforced safety, this only means monsters don't spawn there naturally. Monsters from other floors can still invade, though a few guards at key passages are enough to maintain the floor's security.

The Familias in Orario agreed to build a town on this floor to provide Adventurers with a place to rest and resupply.

Recently, this town suffered an attack. Unlike an inn in a digital world where perfect safety is guaranteed, this real-world Dungeon town offers no such absolute protection.

{T/N: This incident is one where an organization "kills" someone inside a system-protected safe area, but it turns out to be just a plot to capture another person. It's been a long time since I watched it, but I think that's it.}

Rivira's atmosphere has transformed from yesterday's bustle — now only a few people hurry through the streets with tense expressions. When someone catches Adam's eye, they quickly cover their head and run away.

This made Adam even more curious.

At dinner in the inn, he finally learned what happened. A group of Adventurers huddled in a corner, discussing the incident in whispers.

"Hey, did you hear? Some man died or something."

"That's old news... This has spread throughout all of Rivira, hasn't it?"

"Well, I just heard about it."

"By the way, do you know the name of the man who died?"

"I know, he was from the Villy Inn..."

Before he could finish speaking, he was scolded by a burly man wearing an eye patch.

"Hey—! You lot, stop running your mouths! Even I don't know who died — what if you spread false rumors?!"

Whether due to his authority or their own guilt, the Adventurers quickly apologized, laughing nervously.

"Sorry, we were just speculating."

"Yeah, yeah, just speculating."

"Right, Bors, just speculation."

So the big man's name was Bors (Elder).

Noticing Adam eating, he stepped forward, "Hey kid, the town's dangerous lately. If you don't have any business, stay in your room and don't interact with strangers these days, got it?"

It sounded like both a warning and advice.

After speaking, he left the inn without waiting for a response, muttering under his breath to the Adventurers behind him.

"Seriously, that's why I said..."

He looks tough but has a caring heart... is he tsundere? No way — his rugged appearance clearly doesn't match that character type.

While internally critiquing this, he continued eating dinner with a neutral expression.

Though it sounded alarming, it had nothing to do with Adam.

First, the culprit was female; second, the attack didn't happen at his inn; and finally, his strength matched Level 6, so he feared none of Orario's strongest.

Therefore, it didn't concern him.

"Well, I'll rest after dinner and continue the grind tomorrow." He approached his adventures like a salaried worker — following his routine, ignoring outside matters, focused solely on leveling up quickly.

But fate had other plans, and he encountered some familiar faces.

The First-Class Adventurers of the Loki Familia.

While he was eating lunch, his position near the entrance and his distinctive pure white cloak caught the attention of Tiona, one of the Amazon sisters.

"Ah! It's the white-cloaked guy who saved Lefiya!" She shouted excitedly, pulling the elf girl over to where Adam sat in the tavern.

"Y-yes, it is." Though startled by the sudden pull, Lefiya brightened at seeing her savior, eager to express her gratitude.

After receiving their captain's permission, they approached to thank him.

"Hey there."

The speaker was Finn Deimne, the Loki Familia's captain — a pallum with short golden hair known as the 『 Braver 』. Behind him stood the Amazon sisters, Riveria, Ais, and Lefiya — nearly all their First-Class Adventurers.

"Hello...?" Adam looked at the assembled group, puzzled by their sudden approach.

"Pardon the interruption. About the Monster Feria incident — when you saved Lefiya — as the captain of Loki Familia, I wish to express my sincere gratitude."

Finn bowed — a perfect, formal gesture of thanks.

Most Adventurers, knowing his reputation, would have lost their composure at receiving such respect from the famous 『 Braver 』.

But Adam was different. The strong have their own pride.

"No need for thanks. As I said before, I was just repaying your kind warning from before." He shook his head, declining the gesture with grace.

"See, Captain? I told you being kind to other Adventurers has its rewards." Tiona jumped up triumphantly, "Tione is just selfish, always telling me not to talk to other Adventurers."

"Don't twist my words!" Tione shot her sister an angry glare, "I meant don't randomly chat with Adventurers in the Dungeon — it's easy to be misunderstood!"

"Isn't that the same thing?" Tiona asked, unable to grasp the distinction.

"How is it the same?!"

The sisters' argument escalated, drowning out everyone else.

"Ahaha, excuse their behavior." Finn laughed good-naturedly, then grabbed both sisters' arms, "Quiet, you two. You're making a scene."

"...Sorry, Captain."

"I was wrong, Captain."

His authority as captain quickly restored order.

"Ahem, well... May I ask which Familia you belong to?" Though curious about his savior's background, Finn added diplomatically, "Of course, if it's a private matter, you needn't answer."

"There's nothing to hide about my background." Adam replied frankly, "Let me properly introduce myself to everyone from Loki Familia. I'm an adventurer from Hestia Familia, my name is Adam Carter."

"Adam! Can I call you that?" Tiona asked eagerly, clearly pleased with his earlier response.

Her sister, Riveria, and Lefiya's expressions stiffened at her forwardness.

"Tiona, get down — that's too rude." Finn interjected.

"...Sorry." She backed away obediently.

"Ahem…" Finn cleared his throat, "Adam, would you care to join us in investigating the murder case?"

"No, I'll pass." Adam replied after a moment's consideration, making his disinterest clear.

He had no desire to get involved in the matter.

"I see." Finn nodded, unsurprised, "Well, we'll look into it ourselves. It would be unsettling to stay in town without knowing the truth."

Adam inwardly scoffed. He knew better — this was clearly about boosting Loki Familia's reputation.

"Well then, I wish you success in catching the culprit, Captain Finn."

"Thank you for your kind words."

With that, they went their separate ways.
