Chapter 40 - A storm of metal

It was a rainy day within the ancient forest. The aptonoth roam the planes in search of food while much smaller critters retreat to their homes. A Tobi-Kadachi leaps through the trees as it makes its way home, agitated for what is yet to come. Evans was at his nest with the hatchlings huddling together for warmth and safety. He stared to the sky as he knew something wasn't right about this weather.

Motioning to the hatchlings to stay hidden, Evans began an investigation of his own. He stomped through the underbrush, his nose seeking out the tiniest of disturbances. And that's when he found it. Scratch marks. And not just any regular scratches, but deep ones that spiral, likely made from something heavy from the depth they carried. "So it's near huh? I'll make sure to give it a warm welcome if it ever stops by." Evans then makes his return to the hatchlings, a fierce glint shining within his eye.

By the dawn of the next day, the storm had arrived. Evans stood in a clearing as the fierce wind pushed at his fur. And before him stands his opponent. The wyvern resembles a western dragon, except instead of fleshy, red scales, A metallic covering plasters its person. The wind swirls as Kushala Daora Roars at Evans, the majesty of an elder dragon on full display.

Evans roars out in response, undeterred by the beast. The wind elder dragon leaps at Evans, clawing at the pest before it. Evans backsteps the attack, watching as a hole in the ground is formed from the weight of the attack. He then pivots as his tail lashes at Kushala Daora. The elder dragon braces, no intention of dodging.

Clang!

Evans' eyes narrow as his tail rebounds off the silver scales. "Just great. Heavy attacks and a hard shell."  Kushala Daora opens its jaw as a gust of air rushes forward. Evans responds in turn with a fireball. The flames disperse as the gust pushes forth at a weaker power. The gust hits Evans in the face forcing his eyes shut.

Thwip thwip thwip!

Pain suddenly assaults Evans in his torso, much to his surprise. "What the-? What just hitme?" Evans forces his eyes open to see Kushala Daora, now wrapped by its left wing. Looking down at himself, Evans' confusion further deepens as he sees metal shards. Before Evans could further process the situation, Kushala Daora made its next move.

Reversing its stance, Kushala Daora's right wing lurches forward, Metallic scales now flying towards its perplexed target. Evans makes a quick leap to the side as the scales impale themselves into the bark of a tree. "Ok, the dragon now launches its scales. alright cool...NO ACTUALLY WHAT IS THIS!? HOW!? WHY EVEN!?" The barrage continued.

Evans shoved his questions to the back of his mind as he approached Kushala Daora, zig-zagging as he went. Seeing as the scales were no longer hitting, along with the rapidly approaching mountain of muscle, Kushala Daora decided to change tactics. The wings flared open, creating a breeze of air, causing Evans to be pushed back only slightly.

Yet that one moment was all Kushala Daora needed as it took to the storm infested skies, the winds growing ever more fierce as the draconic storm returned to its domain. Scales began to splinter off of Kushala Daora as they mixed in the air. The hairs on Evans back stood on its ends, whether from the storm itself or from the bad feeling in his gut still unclear at the moment. Deciding to listen to his instinct, Evans distanced himself further from Kushala Daora.

At this moment, a pack of jagaruses wandered into the battlefield, looking for food. Unfortunately, they are out of luck as Kushala Daora's scales rained down like hail. The wails of the small creatures could be heard as the metal projectiles tear through them. "Yikes, not playing around anymore huh? Looks like i'm gonna need the big guns for this." Lightning surges on Evans dorsal fins as a ray of lightning rushes forward. However, instead of the expected contact, Kushala Daora had dodged the thunderbolt!

The metallic dragon, now on guard, retaliated with a barrage of wind and scales. And soon enough, the two monsters found themselves in a stalemate. Evans could not hit Kushala Daora, Yet neither could the metallic dragon. Then out of nowhere, both began to charge their big moves.

Evans Dorsal fins shone brighter than before as the glow slowly climbed up the visible veins on his back. Not to be outdone, a great gathering of air surged towards Kushala Daora's maw, the flesh underneath the scales stretching in order to contain as much of the gale as possible. One elder dragon and one variant stared each other down as their moves charged to full power. Then, thunder and tempest were simultaneously released. The two large attacks soon collided, resulting in a blinding glow that shook the ancient forest.

Hello once again. I'm back with another chapter. It took me twice as long for the release as I had gotten busy and I was also thinking of a few 'Wrenches' to throw at both Evans and you guys. Thanks for your patience and leave some comments while your at it. They give me motivation to write more. Anyways, PEACE!
