After the destruction of the Land of Whirlpools, the members of the Uzumaki Clan scattered across the world, forced to live in hiding.
Revealing their identities meant risking relentless pursuit, as the great nations still coveted their powerful sealing techniques.
Seeing her once-proud clan reduced to such a pitiful state, Uzumaki Mito felt a deep sorrow.
In the past, she had even suggested to the village that they take in some of the surviving Uzumaki.
But the proposal was rejected outright by the higher-ups in the village.
Taking in a large number of Uzumaki refugees, they argued, would draw the ire of other villages.
Hiruzen Sarutobi, a man who greatly valued peace, was especially averse to provoking war.
Thus, he refused anything that might invite conflict.
This reminded Jiraiya of an incident from the original history of Konoha. The Land of Lightning had sent ninja to infiltrate the village and abduct Hinata Hyuga to steal the Byakugan. When Hiashi Hyuga discovered their plan, he killed the intruders to save his daughter.
Instead of holding the Land of Lightning accountable for their brazen actions, they brazenly demanded an explanation and reparations from Konoha. Hiruzen, in the name of preserving peace, ultimately compromised, sending Hiashi's twin brother, Hizashi, to his death in order to placate the Land of Lightning.
Jiraiya could see clearly just how far Hiruzen was willing to go to protect peace—though at times, it felt far too suffocating and humiliating.
"Mito-sama, I'm just a jōnin right now. Isn't it a bit early to ask for this kind of promise?" Jiraiya said with a wry smile.
It wasn't that he lacked ambition, he dreamed of becoming Hokage one day. But how long it would take, or if it was even possible, was impossible to predict.
"You were chosen by Mount Myōboku. That speaks volumes about your character," Mito said calmly. "I don't ask you to fulfill this promise immediately. I only hope that when the day comes that you have the power, you will do what is right—for their sake and for your own hope."
She paused before continuing, her expression growing serious.
"If you agree, I will teach you every sealing technique I know, along with some of the forbidden techniques created by the Second Hokage."
Jiraiya straightened up.
"Mito-sama, if I ever gain power, I promise to give the Uzumaki Clan a safe place to call home. And the Senju Clan, which has given so much to Konoha, will always have my respect and protection."
Though it seemed like a small promise, the rewards were immense. Jiraiya couldn't possibly refuse. The Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques were invaluable if he was to realize his goal of dominating the shinobi world.
Scattered across the lands, the Uzumaki were a resource he was determined to unite. To build a formidable organization, he would need to gather talent from every corner.
"I believe in you," Mito said slowly. "The Third Hokage holds you in high regard and is already working to build your reputation. He sees you as his successor. But I hope that when you do take his place, you'll abandon his approach to leadership. Konoha can't thrive if it continues suppressing its powerful clans.
"I'm no expert in politics, but even I can see that a stable village needs more than that."
She sighed and gestured to a table, where she summoned a stack of scrolls with a single tap.
"These are all the sealing techniques of the Uzumaki Clan that I have in my possession," Mito said.
"You're free to use them however you wish—turn them over to the village or teach them to others. That decision is yours."
Jiraiya didn't hesitate and carefully collected the eight scrolls. One of them emanated an ominous aura, making him feel distinctly uneasy.
"Oh, and Jiraiya," Mito added as he prepared to leave. "Tsunade is a wonderful girl. Don't you dare let her down."
Jiraiya chuckled. "Mito-sama, I know how to treat a woman. Don't worry—Tsunade won't regret choosing me."
With that, he departed with the scrolls tucked safely away.
Back in the Senju residence, Tsunade caught up with him.
"So, what did she want to talk about?" she asked curiously.
"She just told me to treat you right and not bully you," Jiraiya said with a grin. Then, leaning closer, he teased, "Oh, and she said your wide hips mean you'll give me plenty of sons."
"Shut up!" Tsunade's face turned bright red as she smacked his arm.
"Oh, by the way," she said, handing him a scroll. "This is from Isamu. It's one of my granduncle's techniques."
Jiraiya accepted the scroll with a nod, realizing that today's haul was beyond extraordinary. Not only had he received the Uzumaki sealing scrolls, but now he had a new jutsu developed by the Second Hokage himself.
Upon inspecting the scroll, he found it detailed the Infinite Darkness Jutsu, a genjutsu that deprived enemies of their ability to perceive light. It had been used by Tobirama Senju in the original history to blind Hiruzen Sarutobi during Orochimaru's attack on Konoha.
Although mastering this genjutsu would require significant effort—especially for someone like Jiraiya, who had little experience with illusions—its potential was undeniable.
Finally, he turned his attention to the ominous Uzumaki scroll.
"It's the Reaper Death Seal," Jiraiya muttered, his expression growing grim. This sealing technique was one of the most powerful—and dangerous—in the shinobi world. By summoning the Shinigami, it could consume an enemy's soul, but at the cost of the user's life.
The stakes were high, but the power it offered was undeniable. From Hiruzen's use of it to seal Orochimaru's arms to Minato splitting the Nine-Tails into two, the jutsu's effectiveness was legendary.
Jiraiya took a deep breath. He had much to learn, and the path ahead was daunting. But today's gains marked a crucial step toward his ambitions.
