Greyson and Alexis stared at each other in silence. Their gaze was like a wordless conversation,full of questions, nervousness, and unspoken tension. The stillness of the small, dimly lit room was broken only by the sound of approaching footsteps,heavy and hurried on the creaking wooden floor.
"Alexis... Alexis...!" A woman's voice rang out sharply from outside the room, her tone anxious and piercing.
Alexis flinched. She immediately jumped off the bed, her face turning pale with panic. "That's Rachel, the owner of this rented house," she whispered quickly, then rushed to the closet and rummaged through it.
Greyson just stood there, frozen, unsure what to do, his face reflecting the same confusion and tension.
"Alexis? Are you in there?"
"Yes!" Alexis half-shouted while grabbing a nightgown from the hanger. Her fingers trembled slightly as she put it on. "Just a minute!"
