Chapter 87: Target
"These vampires are your next targets."
Chang Wei tossed out a stack of photographs.
The images clearly depicted the remaining members of the last major squad of vampires.
These replicas of Mina Harker's remains hadn't inherited Alucard's abilities—no rapid regeneration or immortality—but each had unique strengths.
Some were even absurdly powerful, like the Magic Bullet Shooter.
Lieutenant Rip Van Winkle—her bullets could change direction from any angle, piercing and killing her targets.
Using an old-style musket, she fired enchanted bullets that tracked targets at will. These magic bullets seemed armor-piercing (easily destroying helicopters, fighter jets, and missiles) and moved at speeds exceeding Mach 3—faster than a Blackbird jet.
When fired, they left behind a blue glow, changing trajectory mid-flight, repeatedly striking their targets until death, and then automatically returning to the gun's chamber.
However, her bullets were limited. She had to manually reload her musket after each shot, forcing her to rely on decisive, single-shot kills in battle.
In fact, throughout the entire series, she fired only five bullets, and only one was aimed directly at Alucard.
A bullet that moves at Mach 3, changes trajectory, and defies all logic—it was utterly ridiculous.
Compared to Tubalcain's card-based ability, Chang Wei found the Magic Bullet Shooter far more promising—and he wanted it for himself.
After all… who wouldn't want a pair of Ebony & Ivory pistols after watching Devil May Cry?
Just imagine—if he ever ended up in the Devil May Cry universe, his dual pistols would fire supersonic magic bullets that auto-tracked and changed course at Mach 3. How cool would that be?
Between the tattooed woman's illusion-creating power and the Magic Bullet Shooter's ability, Chang Wei clearly preferred the latter.
Fortunately, both the tattooed woman and Tubalcain's abilities would be fed to Seras. In this world, even if she wasn't the ultimate trump card, she would at least be close.
"Are all of these… vampires?"
Seras was stunned by their appearances and abilities in the photos.
For Chang Wei, obtaining these pictures wasn't difficult. He had already extracted the location of the Pure Unit's South American base from the Captain's memories. Then, he used mind control to make some vampires take photos of their superior officers—giving him exactly what he needed.
"That's right. Get ready. Today's battle went pretty well."
Chang Wei acknowledged that the Captain's training had been effective. At first, he expected Seras to be sliced up by Luke Valentine, barely surviving long enough to counterattack. Instead, it seemed like Seras was way too strong… or maybe the Blacklight virus was just that overpowered?
It couldn't be that the Captain's training had actually worked, right? But Seras' fighting style was still all over the place!
Seras: ╰(°▽°)╯
"Yes!"
Seras beamed with joy—she had been praised!
Having grown up lacking love and support, combined with her mature and resilient nature, Seras had complicated feelings about Chang Wei. He had suddenly descended into her life, was incredibly strong, and had protected her. She couldn't even tell if what she felt was love, admiration, or something else—maybe a mix of everything?
So she craved his recognition even more.
Chang Wei, meanwhile, reviewed intelligence reports and ongoing operations.
Due to the Valentine brothers' assault, Hellsing had suffered heavy casualties and had to hire a mercenary unit led by Pip Bernadotte.
Think about it—how could Britain, one of the "Five Eyes" intelligence-sharing nations, need to hire mercenaries?
But that was just a long-standing British tradition.
In this world's future—or rather, in the original timeline's future—the Great London Riot had completely overwhelmed British authorities. They were forced to outsource law enforcement to foreign private military contractors.
Imagine that—London! And yet, rioters looted and burned down an entire department store, leaving the upper echelons in utter shock. They had zero experience or capability to handle a riot of that scale. As much as they raged about it, they had no choice but to seek aid from "Beautiful Health."
They had to bring in retired U.S. officials with riot suppression experience, along with mercenaries who were actually willing to kill people.
Because that was the simple truth—these mercenaries would shoot.
It was an ironic reality.
Chang Wei even found it amusing that, after the Pure Unit stole British warships, the military had actually scrambled a fleet of aircraft and launched missile strikes in response. Not only that, but the warships even fired back with real ammunition instead of cement-filled training rounds! Clearly, someone competent existed in British logistics.
Otherwise, given Britain's usual efficiency, those warships and supply depots should have been fully stocked with cement rounds instead.
After hiring mercenaries, Hellsing soon received intelligence from their temporary allies—the Vatican.
The report suggested that the Millennium Unit's base was likely hidden somewhere in South America.
Reading this, Chang Wei knew it was time for Tubalcain Alhambra to make his appearance.
Chang Wei always found Tubalcain's name incredibly badass.
As for his strength? Within the Pure Unit, he was likely second only to the Captain—after all, he managed to put up a decent fight against Alucard. But Chang Wei wasn't interested in his ability. If he used telekinesis to enhance bullets instead of playing with cards, his attacks would be far deadlier.
But Tubalcain's ability was all about flashy tricks.
If he had just used real weapons, he might have given Alucard a harder time.
It wasn't like he was cursed to use playing cards—he was just making things harder for himself.
Still, sending Seras after him was a perfect matchup.
The Captain had no idea how Chang Wei kept acquiring intelligence on his father's movements. He had never seen Chang Wei leave, nor had he seen anyone passing information to him. And yet, Chang Wei always seemed to have detailed intel on everything.
Chang Wei had no intention of traveling all the way there himself. Instead, he decided to send the Captain to accompany Seras on her hunt for Tubalcain Alhambra.
The Captain: (°ー°?)
"You're a grown man now," Chang Wei told him in a serious tone. "Stop following me around all the time. You need your own life and personal space."
The Captain: (.﹏.*)
"You didn't do anything wrong, and I'm not kicking you out. Just relax—you're too old to be making that face."
Chang Wei hadn't expected such a big reaction. Was the Captain really that much of a daddy's boy?
But he hadn't tampered with the Captain's memories or altered his personality—he should still be the same stoic badass.
"Anyway, you two be careful. I'll be here waiting for your return."
"I understand, Mr. Chang Wei!"
Seras responded immediately.
"Mr. Howl, let's go!"
The Captain & Seras: ( ̄ー ̄)人(^▽^)
The Captain followed Seras reluctantly.
