EMMA
The soft click of my heels echoed down the marble corridor of the firm as I stepped out, finally shedding the heavy skin of the workday.
My shoulders ached with exhaustion, but today, something was different.
There was a rare lightness in my chest, a thrum of excitement that fluttered.
For the first time in what felt like forever, I was looking forward to going back to the mansion.
Not because of the cold, empty luxury or the looming silence that seemed to breathe down the halls.
But because she was there, my little sister.
The one soul in this world who still felt at home.
Ever since I moved into that mansion, it had never felt like mine. It was too big, too quiet, more a monument to power than a place of belonging.
But now? The moment she arrived, it felt warmer. Livelier. Hers was the kind of presence that made spaces feel full.
I smiled to myself as I stepped into the elevator, my heart thudding with anticipation.
"Emma!"
