Chapter 23 - Libertha De Hayes (II)

The purple liquid she saw droping inside her system was Elixir.

It was mostly used as balm and antioxidants by the people but ever since she began executing demons and witches and wizards that made them as some of them employed demonic powers in the making of the soothing Elixir sold at the market place, causing the people great pain of they didn't apply it on their body, which in turn caused then to return for more.

But the Elixir she found dripping inside her body was not the same colour with the ones usually sold at the market place. It was ourple and had a somehow black appearance as well ,not gold nor any light colour like the ones sold in the market places for soothing and relaxation.

This was a power draining Elixir and that explains why she was unable to break the chains that was used in binding her even though she had possessed such great powers before that even made it possible for her to push down a huge building without difficulty.

From the time she noticed her baby missing till now when she awoke and discovered that it was getting dark, the Elixir must have been done with it's work, and given the scar on her body which created an easy pathway for it to be drained into her body through, there was no denying the fact.

Why had she not noticed something off when the King had pardoned the wizard she had been tasked with executing before?

He had been charged with countless atrocities and was on hiding as most of his fellows had been executed by her fo her wrongdoings and just after she had tracked him down and readied him for execution, the King had stopped her for reasons she couldn't tell then.

"Let go off my baby. I will do whatever you want, please let go off her" she pleaded as she stared at the wizard walking closer towards the cauldron.

Her maternity instincts were kicking in and for once in her entire lifetime, she acknowledged the fact that she wasn't powerful like she always has been anymore as right now, the life of the last most precious human she had laid in the hands of others decisions, with nothing she could be able to do to protect him.

She felt incapacitated. Was this how the mother had felt on the night she hadn't been able to save her child from the demon attacked tournament building? Was this how most of the people always felt whenever they couldn't save their children while they ran for their own lives?

For her,she didn't care about her own life. What mattered to her Moe was the life of her child that was on the line. She had always saved others, she couldn't save her husband and daughter. Would she continue down that path and not be able to save her son now too? Would she still fall short of the promise she made to her dying husband?

" Take my life and do whatever you want with me but please let go off my child. He is all that I have. Please don't hurt him. Don't do anything bad to him I beg of you" she continued pleading.

But no one paid attention to her. Not the wizard, not the people whom she had always protected. No one was interested in saving her nor her son. Her little baby. All of them stood in glee waiting for the worst to be done to them, the worst that Libertha could not bring herself to believe would be the fate of her child.

"For years we have been deceived!!!!" The wizards voice shook the ground everyone was on as he paused in front of the cauldron and began his speech.

The bubbling brew emitting a noxious steam curled into the air and this scared Libertha further. This was the witches ways of sacrificing a person. What were they planning to do with her child that she was yet to be aware of?

Her mind raced as she thought of all the terrible possibilities. Were they planning to use her child's innocent soul to summon a dark entity? Or perhaps to harness the child's life force for their own twisted purposes? Libertha's heart sank and her desperation turned to sheer terror as she feared for her months old son.

"Sacrifice him!! Sacrifice him!!!" The people screamed and Libertha's eyes widened in horror as she heard them screaming such under their breaths.

"Sacrifice who??? Not my son!!!! Why would you sacrifice my son after everything I have done for you all!!! I lost my family because of you all. You all are aware of it. Most of you all were present the day I lost my daughter. Sacrifice my son? For what reasons? What wrong have I ever done to you all? How dare you all? You are all ingrates!!" She screamed back at them at the top of her own lungs, her emotions clouding her mind as she defended her son's life.

She couldn't believe what she had heard and was still hearing from them. How humans changed. How dare they treat her this way. How dare they repay her service and sacrifices for them this way?

"The wizard had been right? She is the one behind the demons she conjured in order to wield the entire power in the kingdom. Did you see how she screamed at us. That's to show that she's too self conceited in the power she does not have anymore" someone screamed from the crowd and a lot of the people screamed in support of what he had said.

This resulted to some more people throwing things at her, ranging from dirty and spoilt soups to sewage water. Garbage and raw eggs they threw to break on her body.

"Don't you see how red her eyes are becoming? She is truly a demon like she has been accused of!"

" Why didn't anyone ever question her strength? It still surprises me that no one did! Other men ran away from becoming executioners but only her remained. Shouldn't that have told us something from the beginning?"

"She's to talk too. How old was she said to be again? Twenty three? Look how tall and huge she is. How many twenty three year olds are as big as she is? How many are as tall as she is? It's only her beauty she used in spitting some men not to notice these. Thank God they're all back to their senses now"

'" Beauty? Where is that? I see no beauty anywhere. She's just like other women, plain and flat chested. No man would desire her and that is why she got a looser as a husband who couldn't even fight to defend his home"

Libertha could hear the murmurs and gossips that were being peddled by the crowd before her.

She has weighted senses and her ears were fast, just like her eyes,in picking up noises regardless of how faint or tiny they may be.

She raised her eyes at them as her gaze lingered on some faces she could recognize from the crowd. The fact that they were mostly women who said that made her feel broken more than she already was.
