After Nolan's bombshell during breakfast, I don't even wait for Nolan's office door—or whatever the room is he disappears into with
his enforcers—to close before I'm sprinting down the hallway toward the front door.
But before I reach it, Liam steps out and blocks my path. "Don't you have cleaning to do?"
I start working out how I can tackle him without it costing me my life, but before I do, Nolan calls out from the room Liam emerged from.
"Let her go. The girl just discovered she had grandparents today. Let her speak with them."
With a scowl, Liam steps aside and I rush past him before he can think of tripping me.
It isn't until I'm halfway to the garden that I realize why Nolan would want me to get to know my grandparents.
He's going to use them to control me.
I know it as surely as if he'd spoken the words aloud. But even knowing that isn't enough to stop me. I have to see them. I have to speak to them.
