LILY'S POV
The plane landed in London under a dull grey sky that had sucked up all the unshed tears of the last week and chose to wear them as a shroud.
I sat frozen in my seat even after the seatbelt sign had been switched off, watching people unbuckle and collect their luggage. My heart was heavier than my carry-on, and yet lighter, too. As though I'd finally let out a breath I'd been holding for months.
Letty's hug was still warm on my body. Her words, her tears, her surprise stop, they'd wrapped me in a salve I'd never known I needed. We hadn't talked much since the hug. We didn't need to. She'd come, we reconciled. That was enough.
Daniel's eyes when he'd stood there observing us was full of pride, the way he stepped back and gave us space, I'd cling to that too.
He'd done more than provide support. He'd returned to me, a part of myself.
And now here I was. New city. New beginning. And, God, I hoped I wouldn't collapse under the stress of it.
