Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Preparing for the Adventure

Lin Fan was completely immersed in the joy of his traveler's backpack, completely forgetting about Lilian's gold ring.

Seeing Lilian bouncing excitedly into the room, Lin Fan's thoughts became a bit chaotic.

No matter what, he had to find a way to smoothly get past this situation.

"If I make you a ring right now, will that make you happy?" Lin Fan asked, pretending to be mysterious.

Lilian paused for a moment, caught off guard by Lin Fan's serious expression.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, how about I prepare a surprise for you after we return from the Nine-Story Monster Tower? Wouldn't that be even better?"

"By then, it definitely won't just be a simple gold ring."

"Really?"

Lilian looked at Lin Fan with a doubtful gaze.

"What kind of surprise?"

Lin Fan raised his hand and rubbed his nose, suddenly struck by inspiration.

"Have you ever seen fireworks?"

"Fireworks?" Lilian blinked, trying to recall.

"I think I have some vague memories… but I don't think I've ever actually seen them."

She tapped her head, as if trying to dig up some long-lost memory.

Seeing this, Lin Fan couldn't help but pat her golden hair.

His guess was correct—most people in this world didn't know the uses of redstone, so even Lilian had never seen redstone fireworks before. The fragments of memory she had probably came from her all-knowing maid heritage.

"Don't think too hard about it. When we return from the Nine-Story Monster Tower, I'll show you the most spectacular redstone fireworks display. How about that?" Lin Fan spoke gently, making Lilian's face turn red.

Even though she didn't know exactly what fireworks looked like, if Lin Fan said it was grand, then it must be amazing.

Receiving her long-awaited gold ring under a sky full of fireworks—that sounded way more romantic than just getting it now.

With that thought, Lilian smiled brightly, completely forgetting about the gold ring for the time being.

Seeing her drop the idea, Lin Fan let out a sigh of relief.

Now, he could only hope that the Nine-Story Monster Tower had plenty of gold ingots, or else he'd have another problem waiting for him when they returned.

With Lilian successfully convinced, Lin Fan turned back to check the furnace, where the iron ingots were nearly done smelting.

Earlier, crafting an iron sword and the traveler's backpack had used up eight ingots, leaving 31. Lilian had also brought back 32 iron ores, so now there were 63 ingots in total, more than enough to craft two full sets of iron armor.

Lin Fan retrieved the iron ingots from the furnace. Since they had just been freshly smelted, they were still a bit hot to the touch.

Crafting iron armor was simple—each set required 24 iron ingots, used to make:

Iron Helmet

Iron Chestplate

Iron Leggings

Iron Boots

Following the crafting recipes from memory, Lin Fan quickly made two full sets of iron armor, then handed one set to Lilian.

"The Nine-Story Monster Tower is dangerous. Wearing iron armor will help keep you safer." Lin Fan said as he put on his own armor.

Originally, in the "Bear Grylls Survival" modpack, iron chestplates and traveler's backpacks couldn't be worn at the same time.

The traveler's backpack took up the chest armor slot, meaning that once equipped, you couldn't wear a chestplate. But here, that restriction didn't exist.

In this world, Lin Fan could wear both an iron chestplate and a traveler's backpack at the same time.

Overall, it was much more convenient than when he played Minecraft in his previous life.

Now that he had weapons and iron armor, Lin Fan was nearly ready to depart.

However, before leaving, he needed to give some instructions about the house—since he had no idea how long this journey would take.

To prevent anything from happening to Store No. 1 and the glass bottle shop, Lin Fan needed to give clear instructions before leaving.

He decided to temporarily halt the operations of the glass bottle shop and called for Chris.

After working with Lin Fan for a while, Chris had changed a lot—from a timid and insecure girl to someone who was now confident and capable.

Seeing her transformation, Lin Fan felt genuinely happy.

At the same time, he also felt that Chris was a reliable and trustworthy assistant.

"Starting tomorrow, Lilian and I will be leaving for a while. During this time, I need you to manage both Store No. 1 and the glass bottle shop. Every day, aside from looking after the shops, you'll also need to visit the marketplace for supplies."

Lin Fan carefully explained the responsibilities.

Store No. 1 consumed around 20 stacks of cobblestone per day, so Chris would need to go to the market daily to restock.

The glass bottle shop currently had only 300–400 bottles left, and once the stock dropped below 100, Chris would need to buy more sand.

Since the house already had coal, Lin Fan taught Chris how to craft glass and glass bottles and also told her where to buy supplies. Only then did he feel assured.

Although Chris had never managed these tasks before, Lin Fan believed in her abilities.

"This shouldn't be too difficult for you, right?" After finishing his instructions, Lin Fan rubbed Chris's head.

By now, Chris was already used to this gesture, so she obediently nodded.

"Not difficult at all."

Hearing her response, Lin Fan was satisfied. He patted her head one last time, then let her return to work.

With everything settled, Lin Fan organized his inventory, then called Lilian.

The two of them set off towards the Nine-Story Monster Tower.

Meanwhile, on the Forum—

As Lin Fan embarked on his journey, news about the Nine-Story Monster Tower began spreading across the forum.

"Is this news real?"

"Must be. Lin Fan already left with Lilian, and I heard from the fishermen that the tower is filled with endless treasures!"

"Yeah, I heard the same thing! They say the rewards there are a million times better than the dungeon rewards!"

"That insane?! I've been to a dungeon before, and the treasure chests were already packed with loot and food. If the Nine-Story Monster Tower's rewards are a million times better… then what kind of stuff are we talking about?!"

"Damn! Lin Fan just went there alone without even posting a single forum thread? Is he planning to hog all the rewards for himself?!"

"Heh, nothing new. That's just typical Lin Fan. Get used to it."

"If he ever actually shared something, he wouldn't be Lin Fan."

"Whenever he finds something good, he always keeps it to himself."

"Forget talking about it, I'm heading there right now."

"Count me in! If we manage to grab some loot, we can trade with the wandering merchants for big money. That'd be a huge win!"

"Already on my way!"

News of the Nine-Story Monster Tower quickly spread among the Blue Star residents.

Unlike the native villagers of Minecraft, these people had no idea how dangerous the tower actually was.

Most of them only saw it as an opportunity—a chance to turn their lives around with one lucky haul.

At that moment, Hu Tiancheng stared at the forum posts with a frown.

"The Nine-Story Monster Tower…"

"Lin Fan took Lilian with him… and before leaving, he specifically entrusted all responsibilities to Chris…"

"This won't be that simple…"
