Liam's eyes fluttered open, and for a brief moment, he was unsure if he was awake or still lost in the darkness of unconsciousness. His head throbbed, his body ached from the relentless beating he had taken, but as his vision adjusted, he quickly realized he was still in the same place. The basement. The dim, flickering light above cast eerie shadows on the walls, and the damp, stale air still filled his lungs.
