My gaze snapped to the door, instincts flaring. The shift in energy prickled along my skin—a silent warning. But as my eyes adjusted, I realized there was no threat. Just an unexpected presence.
A woman stood in the doorway, her silhouette framed by the dim hallway light. She's not a girl, but a woman. Her uniform—a sleek red dress with the hotel's insignia stitched neatly near her chest—marked her as staff. A waitress, maybe, I didn't know.
She stepped inside with quiet confidence, her expression unreadable. In her hands, a silver tray balanced with a bottle of scotch and two empty glasses. The soft clink of glass against metal cut through the thick, charged air—an unwelcome intrusion, well maybe, not totally.
My gaze flickered past her to the open door, catching a brief glimpse of the hallway beyond—polished floors, muted lighting, and rich kind of silence. It made sense now. The isolation. The careful choice of setting, it was a hotel.
