Elesa's departure was followed by Yellow's. Since Yellow was still young, her family insisted she return home. Ash fully supported this—she wasn't ready for extended travel yet—but promised to take her along during his Johto journey.
After spending a final day with Elesa and Yellow, Ash bid them farewell. Elesa boarded a private jet, while Yellow rode Ash's Dragonite back to Pewter City.
"It's so quiet now… Elesa and Yellow are gone, and Brock's still recovering in the hospital."
"Chansey!" Chansey handed Ash an egg, which he expertly cracked into a mixing bowl. Beside him, Sabrina and Misty attempted to mimic his baking skills. After all, who didn't love sweets?
"Elesa's situation is different from mine. My sisters handle the Cerulean Gym, but she's the sole Gym Leader of Nimbasa City. She can't stay away forever," Misty said, clumsily whisking batter. Sabrina levitated ingredients with Psychic, sighing. "I envy you, Misty. Traveling with Ash sounds fun. I'm stuck here running the Gym."
Hearing the resentment in Sabrina's voice, Misty subtly inched closer to Ash.
"Ahaha… Well, I kinda met Ash by accident. But traveling with him is exciting!"
Meowth watched the scene and muttered to Chansey, "Shame. Thought we'd get a love triangle drama for the boss."
"Chansey…" Chansey smirked and pointed at Pikachu, who sat nearby, slumped and moping.
"Pika… Pika…"
"Poor guy's been like this since Yellow left," Meowth said, sighing. "Reminds me of my lost love, Meowzie. Sigh…"
As Meowth and Pikachu wallowed in gloom, Chansey facepalmed.
With Brock still recuperating, Ash decided to visit the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. He recalled three ghostly pranksters residing there—perfect candidates for his entertainment agency. However, the tower's eerie atmosphere wasn't ideal for Misty and Sabrina, so Ash ventured in with Meowth, Pikachu, and Chansey.
"Hope those three are still around…" Ash muttered, eyeing the decrepit tower. A sudden shriek echoed from within.
"IT'S HAPPENING! WOOOOOBUFFET!"
The sounds of chaotic scuffling followed. Ash grinned. "Perfect! They're here. Let's go!"
Led by the commotion caused by Team Rocket's trio (unwittingly serving as bait), Ash located the ghostly troublemakers: a Haunter, Gastly, and Gengar. He politely knocked on the tower's creaky door.
"Excuse me? Any ghosts home? I'd like to offer you a contract to become professional comedians."
"Gastly!"
"Haunter!"
"GENGAR!"
The door flung open. The three Pokémon materialized, ushering Ash inside with exaggerated hospitality.
"I've heard you three dream of making people laugh and want playmates. Take a look at this contract." Ash handed over a document. Gengar, the leader, scrutinized it while Haunter and Gastly peered over its shoulder.
The terms were generous: professional comedy training, exposure through Ash's connections, and in exchange, the trio would assist Ash's allies when needed. After a huddle, Gengar barked a request.
"Gengar! Gengar!"
"Boss, they want us to protect the tower too. It's their home," Meowth translated.
"Deal. I'll buy this land, renovate the tower, and turn it into a hotspot for visitors. Kids can play here—everyone wins. Sound good?"
"GENGAR!"
The trio agreed, thrilled to balance comedy careers with ghostly hijinks. A few calls later, the Pokémon League approved Ash's donation-funded renovation. The ghosts then headed to the Continental Hotel for comedy boot camp.
As for trainers to teach them? Ash knew hefty paychecks would ensure "availability."
And so, Ash's faction gained three mischievous, laughter-loving powerhouses.
