Chapter 2 - Ch-2 The Devil Is Real

It was a normal day in Chaldea...

Yeah, no. Scratch that. Today was going to be the most abnormal day in Chaldea's history, if not one of them.

Chaldea is a secret agency founded with the purpose of preparing for and stopping a certain, soon-to-happen extinction of mankind.

And then, the alarms went off. As in, they completely went off. As if something that triggered an unhappy reaction within the non-living contraptions of man. The corridors were red, loud sounds blared non stop, sending the main crew and upper management into a frenzy.

It was a first.

This situation was new, never before has they faced this.

The situation was urgent! It needed the entire upper management to get involved.

As the researches and investigation units went on overdrive with their duties, the security teams tried to do whatever they could to help.

A multitude of holograms moved and glitched out, computers flickering and forming graphs, complex equations being solved and large machinery whirring. And yet, the sound of the sirens were louder than the panicking machines themselves.

Within the screen, it showcased the current state of the Antarctican continent.

It was bad.

Barely a couple kilometres to the south of Chaldea, a huge energy signature surged up. The sudden arrival shifted the world itself.

Wind speed picked up tremendously. The coldness of the frigid continent increased substantially, the overall temperature plummeted. If anyone were to check the weather forecast now, they would have noticed the hurricane-like formation in Antarctica just outside the main facility of the Chaldea Security Organisation.

The quantity of spiritual energy piled up layer upon layer. The concentration of magic was as pure and perfect as one could imagine. It was nothing short of absolute perfection. The sheer quantity was enough to drastically change the gravity of the location and warp the air itself, change the landscape to its whim.

As the centre of the energy singularity, stood a singular entity. Tall, pale, blonde and handsome. The devilishly angelic not-human calmly and slowly weaved through the icy terrain. He remained unbothered by the cold or the ice.

The wind did nothing to him, didn't even flutter his clothes. To him, it was as if the wind didn't even exist or bloe against him. Although he could cover any distance within an instance, Lucifer had all the time in the world and felt no need to rush things.

Games are only fun when you indulge yourself.

They are to be enjoyed.

Rushing things will only ruin the fun.

Besides, it's just a walk anyway. He'll get to his location eventually, in a couple minutes. It's not like he has anything else to do.

In the meantime...

Olga Marie Animusphere was running through the bustling hallway, ignoring the other staff members and her fellow coworkers who ran around the facility like headless chickens. She, the director of Chaldea, had to get to the bottom of this.

She burst through the door, immediately demanding an explanation.

"W-We're not quite sure. This phenomenon is too bizarre. The readings on the TRISMEGISTUS says it's only a singular entity. But the mana output is far beyond what could even be considered humanly possible. No servant could possibly release such high quality mana in such quantities!"

This explanation made Olga's face scrunch up, her eyes speaking without the need for words. "Well, clearly it isn't actually a servant! And what's with the sudden hurricane ? Why weren't we informed about the sudden weather changes?!"

Despite raising her voice beyond what was necessary, her subordinates had more important things to worry about. The weather was the least of their concerns. Numbers and multiple complex calculations appear and disappear as they tried their best to learn the truth behind the incident.

"It's not a servant, not by any means. It's not in a half-spiritual state like servants, but it isn't a human either. In fact, the TRISMEGISTUS says it's 100% spiritual matter. Actually, no. It's more complex than regular spiritual matter. Either way, it's somehow presenting itself in a state of physical matter despite being a creature of pure spirituality."

"TRISMEGISTUS indicates substantial quantities of Divinity. And there's apparently also no summoner. There was no summoning at all. It's just physically present." They zoomed in, on the figure that they all assumed was responsible for everything.

From the distance, they could just see streaks of red and gold mixing with white that perfectly blended into the environment. The paleness of his skin did nothing to make this easier to observe.

And yet, the man came to an abrupt stop. He stopped walking, even if only for a second and he slowly, gently, looked towards the screen. There was no camera or means of recording him nearby, that's how high-tech they were. But he didn't need to look at a camera to look through a screen.

Such a process was beneath him.

Lucifer didn't need a catalyst to break the laws of the physical world.

With a flash of red, the screen glitched and the room shook. The lights flickered and the technology went haywire momentarily, before coming back online. The face of a devil etched itself into the screen for a brief, almost non-existent moment.

Olga never realised when she fell. But she was already on the floor, the cold metal grazing against her soft creamy skin. Letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding, the girl tried to calm her beating heart. Her legs were quivering.

'Wait... When did I fall over ?' She wondered, finally realising that she was no longer standing up.

"Lev..." She unconsciously muttered.

Having no idea what she just witnessed, and with absolutely no clue what to do, Olga Marie Animusphere could do nothing but turn to the one person she trusted the most.

"Lev! Oh god, what is that ? What do I do here,?!" She tried to contact him, to get through to him. She was in desperate need of assistance.

__________

The heavy, reinforced doors groaned as the security team approached the lone figure standing casually in the howling Antarctic winds. Hands in his pockets, the man with crimson eyes gave them a wide, amused smile.

"You lot are late. I was beginning to think Father had sent me to a ghost town." He joked, his voice laced with absolute mischief. He spoke with the voice of someone who, after a long many eons of boredom, finally laid their eyes on a brand new, entertaining toy to play with. A brand new game to play.

That synopsis wasn't really that far off.

He stepped forward, and the snow around him seemed to shimmer with heat despite the sub-zero temperature.

"Sir, you're coming with us." One of the agents gestured, clearly unnerved.

They would have been so believable with their professional act, if not for their obvious trembling figures. They didn't even know why they were scared, but just laying their eyes on the man before them was enough to send their bodies and minds into a frenzy.

"Oh, I wouldn't miss this for the world," he replied, flashing white teeth. "Lead the way, gentlemen."

Lucifer Morningstar quickly found himself escorted inside the main building, entering the futuristic facility and moving past the sliding doors. Except... Lucifer never merely enters a place.

He announces his presence.

Staying true to his incomprehensible, supernatural nature, Lucifer's mere presence caused yet another frenzy. Raising his foot in the air, Lucifer took a slow, deliberate step forward. His clean, polished boots clattered against the shiny metal floor, creating a very distinct sound that echoed through the facility, reverberating even through the walls.

As soon as his boot touched the cold metal floor, hell emerged on earth.

Literally.

Behind the door, which fell off its hinges, the ground opened up. The area around Chaldea, where there was nothing but snow and ice, opened up into a deep ravine glowing with molten red, like the fiery pits he's accustomed to.

The lights flickered uncontrollably, the air itself started to vibrate as if unable to comprehend the very presence of The Devil. Screens cracked and everyone frozen up, sweat pouring down their faces. They all watched him, unable to look away. The weight of the magic energy pushing down on them like the sky itself.

Lucifer paid them no mind. He simply kept walking, ignoring the flabbergasted faces around him. His very presence entranced them all, none could resist.

Eventually, he was brought to a dimly lit room with a single table and two chairs. On the table was a glass of fresh water. Lucifer playfully craned his head to the side.

"An interrogation room ? Why bother with such triviality ? If you have questions to ask, I shall answer dutifully. The Devil always speaks the harsh truth, after all." His tone was amused and also snarly, like he was waiting for someone to actually trying something.

"So... Who's asking ?" He turned around and asked the people.

Not a single person had entered the room.

Nobody wanted to be in the same room as him. The aura he produced at that moment was so potent, it reeked. They all thought the worst had come to pass.

But Lucifer's face shifted into one of intrigue. Why ? Because there was actually one human that dared to take up the challenge.

Or was he even human to begin with ?

To be completely honest, Lucifer was surprised by his appearance. He looked nothing short of a vampire. He was a tall man, lanky and almost skinny even, but he had flesh in all the right places. He had black hair and red, vampiric eyes.

His ears were pointy too!

Lucifer looked at him with an expression of curiosity.

"Well, aren't you a tall, handsome one." He looked up at the fallen angel, who squinted playfully at him.

Lucifer was a very tall man. Taller than the vampire reject standing before him.

"Why thank you, young man. I will say you look... Intriguing. You're not a vampire, clearly... And yet you look so..." Lucifer's piercing red eyes stared deep into the man's very soul.

"Oh... How sinful, you are~" Lucifer's voice was playful, filled with childlike amusement, almost like he was singing.

"What business do you have in Chaldea, if I may ?" He questions.

But Lucifer's grin did not faulter.

"Beryl Gut, huh ? Interesting man... Skilled torturer and serial killer... Son of a witch... Killed your own mother... Committing such heinous crimes and oh... You are interested in an underaged girl ? Breaking fingers is not a way to express love my dear~" He speaks with a smile, yet his eyes glimmered with something Beryl couldn't quite understand.

"It has certainly been a while since I've seen another man like you. Truly, you are the scum of the earth. Bravo!" He claps his hands while looking down on Beryl like he just saw a funny looking toy.

"I don't get where any of that just came from but... I haven't received an answer to my question. I believe that quite rude of you." Beryl stared into The Devil's eyes while she said this.

"Ah, yes of course. How could I be so uncivilized. Please, pardon my lack of manners. Though, I do believe you have also not introduced yourself either."

"You seem to already know who I am. But if I must, then I'll say it again. I am Beryl Gut. Now give me the answers I seek." Although Beryl found this new toy amusing, he also felt a little irritated since Lucifer ignored his questions.

"Ooh, feisty~ Alright, I'll entertain your queries for now." He slowly outstretched his arms in theatrical flourish, as if addressing a grand crowd.

"My name is Lucifer Morningstar."

He paused dramatically.

"Yes, that Lucifer. You know— Actually Satan. The 'actually' is important by the way. First of my fallen brethren, the king of hell… and recently, very unwilling guest in your lovely frozen institution." Lucifer's entrance was theatrical, yet his words reverberated with truth and belief.

Lucifer noticed the reactions of the people in the crowd. They were murmuring, mixed feelings. Some were anxious, some were doubtful, some thought he was crazy. Yet, they all saw that he was by no means a normal human.

"Oh, The Devil you say~? What an elaborate thing to say in your situation." Beryl got all up in Lucifer's face, his lips twisted into a cruel, excited smirk.

"I'll have you know, I'm an expert at torture. I can and will love to pick up apart~"

Lucifer's looked uncomfortable, but his grin never fell. "I wouldn't recommend it."

"Don't worry, I'll take good care of you~" He tried to touch Lucifer, but the devil wasn't one for such things.

"Just because I allowed you to gaze upon me with those sinful mortal eyes, does equate to the right of touching my venerable self." His eyes were burning with fury, furious at the audacity of this human.

"You see, you were already in shit list due to your sinful actions. Not that I can much for serial killers, but creeping over and torturing a young girl is nothing short of nefarious and iniquitous. And to top it all of, you think you have power over Me ?" Lucifer's voice was chilly, cold and calm, yet held an undeniable sharpness that could slice through the strongest metal in the world.

"An here I was hoping to keep the body count to a minimum. But alas... It is but a fallacious belief."

Before Beryl could react, his right arm exploded into blood, an action so fast that he hadn't even registered a thought.

"And just so you know... Mazie is a far better torturer than you could ever hope to be." Lucifer whispered in his ear, before everything went black.
