Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Hearing a Twig snap, Cashew instantly started kicked dirt onto the fire like a dog digging a hole, satisfied with the fire being out, he grabbed his Wolfskin bag and the Wolf leg he hadn't eaten yet and fled, climbing on top the rock he was using as shelter and shrinking down on it as much as he could.

He watched the darkness, his eyes not adjusted yet, looking for any signs of movement, he's not exactly scared, but he did break one of his father's windows, so he hid in case his father came looking for him again.

Hiding in top of the rock, when his eyes finally adjusted, he noticed a group of 3 Goblins investigating the area his campfire was in.

Glad that it wasn't his dad or anyone from the Village, Cashew casually Cast an Ice Spike in each of the Goblins faces, killing them instantly.

Cashew looked at his surroundings, making sure the coast was clear before climbing down from the rock and looking around one more time, just to make absolutely sure there were no more threats in the area.

Satisfied that the coast is clear, Cashew put his new bag around his shoulder and held the Wolf leg meat tightly. He didn't put the Wolf leg into his bag out of fear the leg would ruin the books or make the fur sticky and smelly.

Cashew picked up a stick, spun it in the air, and went in the direction it was pointing when it landed.

The stick was pointing South when it landed, which made Cashew sigh as South was back to the village.

Cashew: It's like fate wants me to go back and apologize... Not happening! I'll just go around the village and keep heading south!

Cashew made up his mind, he was gonna go around the village, and head south in that direction and see what he finds.

Heading back in the direction of the village, Cashew passed his parents house and saw wooden shutters shut on the window he threw the Wolf meat through. Not sticking around long, he immediately went deeper in the forest and around the village to head south.

Walking next to the village, Cashew noticed that the nighttime village guards were traveling around with torches, seemingly looking for something. Cashew thinks it's safe to assume they are looking for him.

"Maybe it's a bad idea to stick around the village?" Cashew thought, dropping the thought and deciding to think about it later.

Cashew: But what else am I gonna think about on the walk?

Deciding to think about it, Cashew weighed the Pros and Cons of continuing to live near the Village. "Pros... Goblins and Wolves are the most dangerous creatures I know of in that Forest."

"Cons... What if my dad is trying to have me arrested now?..." Cashew thought about it, not enjoying that idea, but thinking it made sense, he did break a Window, after all.

Cashew: How did they even get windows? I thought this world wasn't advanced.

Cashew Paused, thinking about how his parents even managed to get windows in such a medieval world, he didn't think long about it and continued on with Pros and Cons.

"Pros... Since the Area is safer, I can spend some time training myself so I can get stronger."

"Con? I'm not sure whether this is a pro or a Con, But my Author probably wants to do a time skip so I can get a bit older, suddenly feeling that some readers might be uncomfortable with my age." Cashew took a step over a giant fallen tree, "Another one I'm not sure whether to call a Pro or Con. My Author was planning for the story to go in a specific direction and me leaving the Village would make it harder to lead the story in that direction."

Cashew Jumped down from the fallen tree trunk, landing and continuing to walk South of the Village.

Cashew: You know what? Fuck it! Fuck the Author! I'm leaving the village and he can figure out how to take the story in the direction he originally planned to!

(Authors Note/ *Cries*)

Cashew Kept heading South of the village, in a direction he's never been before, but he suddenly Paused.

Cashew: Wait... What about the traps I set over the past year? I feel kinda bad if there is an animal in one of them just waiting to die of starvation... Maybe I should head back and just empty the traps and destroy them?

Cashew stood still for a moment before deciding to head back and deal with his traps first, not wanting to let an animal die of starvation.

Cashew headed back in the direction of the village and headed towards the closest trap. Once he reached it, he noticed that the trap wasn't set at all, meaning there was no animal inside it. Removing the wooden stick that would trigger the trap if disturbed, Cashew also removed the lid of the trap as well, causing it to just be a hole in the ground.

Heading towards the next closest trap, He found that this one was triggered, But there was no animal inside of it, Cashew disabled the trap and moved on.

Cashew: What if those wolves took the animal I had in that trap? The trap is meant for small animals like Rabbits, the Wolves should have no issue getting any animals out of the trap.

Deciding not to think about it and move on to the next trap. "I can just update the traps next time I build one. Fix any flaws then." Cashew started moving towards the next trap.

Cashew: I got 5 Traps total, 2 of them were dealt with.

Reaching the next trap, this one was not triggered at all, Cashew disabled it and moved on to the next one. The next one had an animal inside it, a Small Rabbit. Cashew opened the trap and let the rabbit go, and for a moment, Cashew felt like the Rabbit was calling him an idiot for letting it get away. Cashew disabled this trap and moved on.

The 5th Trap location is the one where Cashew had the Rabbit meat the previous day, he doubts it caught anything else today, but he's still gonna disable it. Which he did once he reached the trap. Disposing of the lid and the stick that triggered the trap.

Cashew: Finally... Disabled all of my traps and can leave this village for good!

Cashew started heading South again, walking past the village and finding himself back where he was when he turned around to disable his traps. Cashew kept walking until sunrise, which took about 3 hours.

Cashew: Huh. I guess it was later than I thought when I woke up.

Cashew kept walking forward and found himself going up a steep hill, the hill was so steep in some areas that it felt like rock climbing. Except there was no rock. The entire hill was dirt.

After about 10 minutes of getting up that hill, occasionally using tree roots to keep himself from falling back down, Cashew found himself at the top of the hill. When he looked back triumphantly and then looked forward, he was shocked to find... More hills...

Fortunately, these hills weren't so steep compared to the last one, but they were still hills. Cashew also found himself standing on a dirt road going alongside the hill.

His instincts from his old world kicked in and he quickly moved to the new hill, thinking a car might come flying down the road and hit him, he knows that won't happen, as this world doesn't have cars, but he still moved forward out of instinct.

As Cashew kept climbing up the hill, some horse hoofs came down the road and stopped on the road looking at him.

Person on a Horse: Hey Kid! What are you doing?

Cashew: Climbing a hill!

Cashew responded, not stopping his climb or turning to face the Person speaking to him.

Person on a Horse: Why?

Cashew: Why Not?

Person on a Horse: There's a perfectly good road down here.

Cashew: I saw it. I don't wanna get run over by a horse!

Person on a Horse: Unless the person on the horse is trying to run you over, that's not gonna happen.

Cashew: I don't know if you can tell from where you are, but I'm pretty small. The horse or the person on the horse might not even notice me until I'm under its hoof. Don't dogs and cats get run over by horses all the time?

Cashew said this, rather surprised about his lack of horse knowledge, his mother took care of horses, so he expected himself to know more about them.

Person on the Horse: I can see you just fine, I assure you that unless someone is trying to run you over, you'll be fine. You should get out the way of any oncoming horses though.

Cashew: I know to get out the way, I'm not stupid!

Person on the Horse: then why are you-... *sigh* you're a headache, Kid. Fine, do what you want. Just be warned that there are bandits in the area. They might not spare you just cause you're a kid.

Cashew: Thanks for the Warning, Safe Travels!

The Person on the Horse sighed again, Cashew doesn't notice as he never turned around even once during the conversation. The Person on the Horse started galloping away, downhill, Cashew assumes that Person on the Horse is heading towards the Village Cashews parents are in. He doesn't know where the road leads, he just feels like it leads towards the village.

Continuing to climb the hill Cashew eventually reached the top of this hill too. There, he found himself on a Dirt road again, although unlike the last one, this Dirt road seems even more abandoned, as if it hasn't been used in decades. Cashew was unsure on which direction to go, so he grabbed a stick, spun it in the air and let it land on the ground, and decided to travel this road in the direction the stick pointed in.

...

Left!

The stick pointed to the left, so he went left, climbing up the hill again, although he's on an old dirt road, so the uphill travel isn't that bad.

He kept going farther up hill and eventually found himself seeing snow, something he hasn't seen since his old life. Cashew started heading up the dirt road faster, not wanting to freeze, even though he doesn't feel cold yet.

Cashew: Wait... Why am I trying to go higher up if I don't want to freeze?...

Cashew Paused to question his logic before continuing uphill, reaching his hand into the wolf skin bag he made earlier for warmth.

Cashew: Wait a minute...

Cashew reached into the bag fully and pulled out the second wolf hide he had, wrapping it around himself for warmth.

Cashew: I'm glad I didn't give the wolf hide to my parents with all that meat!

Cashew kept moving forward up the old dirt road, keeping himself warm with wolf hide, the snow did get a little worst as time went on. Cashew eventually came across an old cabin, 100% Wood, looked like it would collapse any second now, two windows with wooden shutters, all shut. Cashew figured this building was abandoned, so he waltzed right in through the front door, not even knocking first.

When he came in, a stench came flooding out of the house, Cashew couldn't put his finger on what the stench was. Part of it seemed like Body odor, another part seemed like it came from how old the house was.

Cashew: Looks like I'm not the first person here... Someone must have Squatted here in the past.

Cashew suddenly heard footsteps behind him, he dove deeper into the house and hid under a bed, peaking to see who it is.
