The morning sun cast long shadows over the training ground, its golden light barely cutting through the lingering chill. Kale stood at the center, his stance relaxed yet precise. Opposite him, Rei shifted uncomfortably, his fists clenched, his body tense.
"Again," Kale ordered, his voice even.
Rei hesitated for a fraction of a second before lunging. His movements were fast but uncertain—sharp instincts dulled by hesitation. He threw a punch, but it was predictable. Kale saw it forming before it even fully left Rei's shoulder.
Future Sight activated.
The world flickered for an instant, his vision jumping three seconds ahead. He stepped aside, twisting at the last moment, causing Rei's fist to cut through empty air. Without pausing, he countered—grabbing Rei's wrist and shifting his weight, forcing the boy off balance.
The second Future Sight faded, a sharp headache spiked through Kale's skull. He exhaled, steadying himself against the sudden strain. The drawbacks of the ability were brutal—it consumed too much mana, and prolonged use invited unbearable migraines. If overused, it would temporarily blind him.
But it was necessary. He had sacrificed kindness for power. There was no turning back now.
Rei stumbled but caught himself, rubbing his wrist. His expression was unreadable, but Kale could tell—he hated how easily he was being overpowered.
"You're improving," Kale said, his tone neutral.
Rei didn't respond immediately. Then, finally, he gave a slow nod, his fingers tightening into fists once more.
"Again," he said.
Kale smirked slightly. Maybe there was hope for him yet.
