Bruce stared directly at the two clones of Peter.
His pitch-black cloak now completely enveloped his body.
His gaze remained calm as always.
It was as if nothing in the world could shake Bruce.
Miles and Jessica had already prepared for battle.
Even though Mary Jane had no idea what kind of superpowers she had, she forced herself to stay composed and take on a combat-ready stance.
The Two-Faced Peter, who had been tied up by Miles, suddenly spoke.
However, his voice was completely different from before.
It carried a distinct electronic tone.
Bruce was very familiar with such a voice.
People who didn't want to reveal their real voice often used something like this.
It was essentially the same as his own voice modulator.
Though their purposes were quite different.
"It seems our General Nick Fury has found himself in a rather unfavorable situation."
The voice spoke through Two-Faced Peter.
If Nick Fury still didn't realize what was controlling them by now, he wouldn't have deserved his rank after all these years.
His brow furrowed because he immediately recognized the method these guys had used on the clones—brain-machine interfaces.
"You're using neural control on them?" Fury questioned.
"Where is that coming from? Wasn't your initial purpose in creating them to control them? I merely completed what you started," the voice replied, clearly displeased with Fury's accusation.
"You created them, and that was fine, but when I finished your plan, suddenly I'm the problem? That doesn't seem very fair."
Hearing this, Fury was momentarily at a loss for words. He simply remained silent.
"What's wrong, our great General Nick Fury?" The voice sounded mocking, as if ridiculing him for being nothing more than an old, useless man.
"He's just waiting for me to locate you."
Bruce suddenly spoke.
At this moment, Bruce had already used the brain-machine interface to pinpoint the exact location of whoever was controlling these Spider-Man clones.
"I'd say this was another reason why Fury and his people chose not to use brain-machine interfaces. It's not just about physical harm—if the enemy has a highly skilled hacker, they can trace the person controlling the entire army."
"Isn't that right, Hydra's Eddie Brock?"
As soon as Bruce uttered this name, everyone turned to look at the controlled Two-Faced Peter, who now bore an expression of utter disbelief.
Clearly, he had never expected someone to track him down so directly.
"Didn't that guy die in a fight against Spider-Man?"
Miles recalled the records after his encounter with Bruce.
Wanting to become a good Spider-Man, he had carefully studied all of Peter Parker's mission logs. Among them, Venom had left a particularly deep impression.
He remembered it vividly—Venom had stepped on a live wire and been electrocuted into oblivion.
"Obviously, someone saved him. Though judging by his current state, he's not doing too well."
By now, Bruce had stepped right up to Two-Faced Spider. In his hand, he displayed a different scene.
It showed a man with tubes of nutrient fluid inserted into his back.
Despite the somewhat gaunt and panicked look on his face, there was no mistaking that it was Eddie Brock.
"So what? The power you possess is nowhere near enough to challenge my army."
Eddie Brock's panic lasted only for a fleeting moment before he quickly regained his composure.
"Perhaps S.H.I.E.L.D. no longer intends to clone Spider-Man, but that doesn't mean Hydra doesn't."
"The bat over there wasn't wrong—Peter Parker did unlock the 13th underground level. Because we brought him back from hell."
As Eddie spoke, a twisted but confident grin spread across his sickly face.
"What have you done to my husband?"
Mary Jane, overwhelmed with emotion, demanded an answer from Eddie.
"I thought you would've figured it out by now."
Hearing her words, Eddie hesitated slightly, as if something didn't quite add up. A moment later, his uncertainty turned into a mocking smirk.
"Looks like your bond wasn't that deep after all."
Sensing Mary Jane's unstable emotions, Nick Fury immediately stepped forward and addressed Eddie.
"We have two Spider-Men here, along with a newcomer you just converted. And you? You only have two low-quality Spider-Man clones. What do you plan to fight with?"
Eddie's voice fell silent because everyone had already heard the sound of rapid footsteps echoing from the passage.
Carnage had descended from the main structure of the Tri-Force Tower.
"So, can someone tell me what's going on right now?" Clearly, Miles was still confused about what had just happened.
"Simply put, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated to the point of being a sieve."
Bruce's words were particularly harsh for Nick Fury.
Because he was certain that during his tenure, S.H.I.E.L.D. was never this vulnerable.
Just as Bruce had said.
Bruce and his team used fake orders to drive the soldiers away, which played right into Hydra's plans.
Hydra was convinced that these superheroes would ensure all soldiers were cleared out before entering the Tri-Force Tower, and that was precisely the moment they could act.
At that moment, the stationed troops outside had just been replaced by the next shift. However, the insignia on their armbands seemed slightly unusual.
The major, who had been questioning the order to retreat from the defensive line, naturally chose to set aside his concerns when he saw the incoming replacements.
After all, in front of outsiders, they were always one united force.
"I never expected you to be here, Lieutenant General Ross." After saluting General Ross, the major asked in confusion why he had come.
As a staunch representative of the military's hawkish faction, General Ross had always been committed to the Super Soldier Program. And now, under his command was an army of super soldiers.
"Special teams handle special matters. I am here to take care of what I should be handling." General Ross clearly had no intention of engaging in a lengthy conversation with the major. He simply presented the deployment order for him to sign.
But the major instinctively felt that something was off.
As a member of the dovish faction, he had always been at odds with General Ross. And based on his understanding of Ross, the man would never accept an assignment like this.
Ross was far more interested in external warfare and expanding his power.
"I think I need to check with the current Chief of Staff," the major said, turning to make a call.
At that very moment, General Ross and his men took action.
Ross fired two shots at the major, and as the gunfire rang out, his soldiers launched an indiscriminate massacre of the stationed troops.
Caught off guard, the stationed forces failed to respond with counterfire in time.
None of them had ever imagined they would one day face such a situation.
They were completely slaughtered.
General Ross watched the scene before him with great satisfaction.
Yet, deep in his expression, there was also a hint of sorrow and regret.
"Forgive me, my brothers-in-arms. This is a necessary sacrifice for humanity to advance." Ross knelt beside the still-breathing major.
"In the future, you will understand."
Bang!
The gun fired. The major moved no more.
"All secure! The perimeter is sealed." A soldier ran up to General Ross, his uniform stained with traces of blood from the battle.
The same blood dripped from the tentacle-like Hydra emblem on his armband.
"Now, let us wait for the good news," General Ross said, gazing up at the Tri-Force Tower, his face filled with anticipation.
"Hail Hydra!"
With that battle cry, nearly every soldier stopped what they were doing and raised their arms high.
"Hail Hydra!!!"
