Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

"Get you?"

"I mean guys are dumping us for no reason, a girl does everything right but it's not enough."

She kept quiet, realizing that she was rambling too much,

He thoughtfully looked at her. "You were recently dumped, too?"

Her heart beat fast. Think of a lie, think, Ayla. "No, my best friend recently got dumped, and she didn't deserve it."

"Really? Because of your friend." He asked

She nodded quickly and added on,

"Yes, I'm sure you know someone who has been dumped."

"Of course, Kelsey, the girl I was about to tell you about before you jumped in so quickly, thought you might know her with your reaction."

Ayla blushed, "Oh, it's just that it's so sad when I hear about such things."

"Really?"

"Yes, I don't think anyone deserves such treatment."

"You don't know why Kelsey was dumped."

"Aren't men always wrong?"

The words slipped out before she could stop them,

"I did not mean that way, Sir......….."

What did this even have to do with her work?

"It's good you are speaking your mind, Ayla. You need to come out of your shell."

"Okay."

"Or at times you do, when you feel spontaneous."

She stiffened. "Not really, it's not my thing."

"We are all different at times, alter egos."

"Well, I guess I will never meet mine."

"I see you are head strong."

Ayla was confused as to what he meant. "Pardon?"

"You stick to your so-called truth."

So-called? What? "I…"

"You what?"

"I don't know."

"Of course you don't. Do you get memory loss easily?"

Ayla wanted to scream, "No, I don't, I can memorize and do my job well."

"I see you are dead set, we will have to see."

It seemed as if he was challenging her, "I will do my best for the company, I will give it my all."

"You better. Well that is it, you can go back."

Ayla stood up quickly, "Thank you so much, Sir, and I won't let you down."

"By the way, Ayla."

She turned around,

"I will be watching you."

She nodded and basically sprinted out of his office; he had to know who she was. She went back to her desk.

Her mind worked, and the following week, nothing out of the ordinary happened. They were having a team-building trip.

They were excited as that meant some relaxation and good food.

They arrived on Thursday and they felt nervous as the new workers in the company. This was the first time that they met the other workers.

It was a large group, and of course, some of the workers had taken an interest in the new staff. No-one had looked her way, not that she would blame them.

They all settled into their sleeping dorms and went out for the first round of activities, it was late in the afternoon.

They all stood there, waiting for the instructions from the M.C.

"Groups of two with someone that you don't know. Guys pick, let's begin."

Ayla hated this sort of thing and it all stemmed from when she was younger, she was always the last one picked.

Why did they need to be couples? Why couldn't it be girls with girls too? She could hear the excitement from the others.

She slipped to the back, not wanting people to be picked and she was in the way. More embarrassment.

"Ayla."

She was shocked, was she dreaming? She was the first person to be picked. There was so much murmurs and headed to the front.

She saw Xavier motioning for her to come, there was no way this was happening.

With everyone watching, Ayla did so slowly, she put one foot in front of the other.

"Yes Sir."

"Let's go."

She followed him on the open field, everyone would sit. Ayla sat down across Xavier. Other pairs were coming and they all side eyed her.

"Why are you looking everywhere but me?"

Ayla looked at him and his gaze was intense, "It's normal to be afraid of your boss."

"Shouldn't we be past that?"

Ayla tried to stay cool, "I don't know you Sir, so we can't be past that."

"I see you are still acting."

Ignorant is bliss Ayla, "I'm not sure what you mean."

"Ayla we don't have all day to go back and forth."

If he thought she would confess, then he would be waiting for the remainder of his life. "Forgive me Sir."
