Chapter 16 - The Eyes That See Through Deception

But—I wanted to believe her. Yet, something inside me resisted. My chest tightened, and for a brief moment, my vision blurred. It didn't make sense.

I didn't know what this feeling was, but I could tell she was lying.

I took a sip of my tea, my gaze fixed on the figure before me.

"Why are you joking, Granny?" I asked calmly. I didn't understand what she meant when she said I couldn't awaken the 'legacy.'

"Why would I joke about something like this?" Her expression remained serious, almost unreadable. She could fool anyone with that face—but not me.

"But didn't you say that I passed the trial and—" I pointed toward my silver-grey eye, which had recently changed color. "—I can tell, with the help of these eyes, that you are lying. Is this one of the powers of the legacy?"

"Tch—" Her expression darkened, her lips twitching in annoyance. "Here I thought I'd get to see you panic or feel despair. That's why I don't like smart brats."

"And my question?"

"Agh—be patient. I'll explain everything... First, let me tell you about the power of the 'legacy.' Your silver-grey eyes are proof that you've broken free from the curse placed on our family—"

"What? A curse? Was it placed by the gods or demons, Granny?" My curiosity got the better of me, and I forgot her first warning. This time, she flicked my forehead.

"Shh. I told you not to interrupt when I'm explaining. And I can't tell you that."

So I was right. This curse was placed by them.

"Originally, all members of our family had the same eye color as me—silver-grey. But after we were cursed, the next generations began to lose their power, their eyes turning crimson instead," she said, her gaze drifting toward the sky.

For a moment, she looked lonely—burdened by memories of the past. I didn't say anything. Sometimes, silence is the best comfort.

Drip Drip

Raindrops landed on my hands. I looked up at the sky. The once bright, blue expanse had darkened, heavy clouds rolling in.

"Looks like it's going to rain. Let's go inside."

Is it raining because of weather or this whole place reflecting her emotions.

With a flick of her fingers, the scenery shifted. In an instant, I found myself seated across from a young girl near a fireplace. She stared at me, her eyes glowing faintly in the dim light.

"Let me ask you something," I said. "Just as I can detect lies, what power do you hold in those mysterious eyes? And what is the price for using it?"

She smiled, as if amused by my curiosity.

"The power I hold isn't that interesting," she said, leaning in close to whisper in my ear. "I can see a person's past—their sadness, joy, even their most embarrassing moments. Nothing can be hidden from me."

I pushed her back with my hand, unsettled.

"And what's the price?" I asked. Every great power comes with a cost.

"Price?" She tilted her head. "You're well-informed. We can't use these abilities without consequences. But I won't tell you mine. I don't want to. Just know that it's not a good one. Death can be a price too, you know. That's not up to us."

Tch—what a dangerous ability. But it definitely suits me.

"Can I also see someone's past?" I asked. I needed to know if my power was limited to lie detection or if I could access other abilities as well.

"You can only use one power, the one determined at birth," she said, watching me carefully. "Seeing the past or the future—you can't have both."

She hesitated, studying me before continuing.

"I don't know about you. The fact that you're already using your ability means you're an exception. It hasn't been long since you awakened, yet you're already proficient. Some take decades to master their power, but you... you're different."

She looked irritated, almost envious.

"I had to train for decades to use my ability, yet here you are, wielding yours so effortlessly. I really hate that," she muttered.

Suddenly, she stepped forward and began to untie my shirt.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" I protested, but my body felt weak—too powerless to resist.

"—Even with such divine talent, your body is in shambles," she murmured, examining me. "What a pity. You won't survive long like this. Still... it has its appeal."

"Hey! Stop drooling! And don't lick your lips! It's creepy!"

She smirked. "What? A young lady is admiring your body, and you're scared?"

I looked around. "Young lady? Where? Oh—you mean you? Sorry, Granny, but I fail to see a young grandma." I laced my voice with as much sarcasm as possible.

She burst into laughter. "Haha! Looks like you'll lose your innocence to a young grandma...!"

I choked. "What?! I thought you were just going to hit me—this is worse than torture!"

"Haha, you are just joking?. There's no way you'd actually do something like that with your own family, right? Haha… ha… huh?"

I froze.

My eyes widened as Granny reached for my waistband, her fingers teasing the zipper of my pants.

"Wait—what are you doing?! Stop it! We're family! We can't—!"

She smirked. "There's no problem, descendant. No one will know what happens here. You just have to close your eyes and enjoy."

She kept laughing while I groaned, shaking my head.

"Youu!!! Pervert!!!"

Nooo!!
