Chapter 23 - New Skill

With everyone now in Wilson's bone- plated rhinoceros dungeon which was just a vast expanse of savannah grassland, chosen due to its space, Mateo got ready to spam spells to drain his mana.

But first, Mateo used one of the items he bought, a spellbook.

The spellbook, with an original price tag of 5000 coins was basically tailored for him since it was a lesser earth manipulation spellbook designed to help with basic earth spells that hopefully didn't require too much mana or attention to detail.

Summoning the book from his purchases tab which only kept newly bought items from the universal store run by a network of FragHIMs, an earthly scent filled the atmosphere and invoked memory of fresh soil, hot desert sands and even barren wastelands, all a testament to how the earth element was present in every environment.

Opening the big brown book which took two hands to hold, Mateo looked at the first page which had a picture of a basic earth wall and the instructions on how to make it.

Mumbling the instructions to himself, the others looked at Mateo in shock since when they looked at the page, they were either met with a blinding light or an empty page, but all of them got light headaches that became worse the longer the stared at the page.

Giving up they all moved away from Mateo who had finished reading the spell and had put it on the ground. Taking a deep breath, he crouched down and envisioned an earth wall rising just like the guidelines said, and lo and behold, the earth vibrated and a wall rose up .... 9 inches tall.

Barely holding back their laughter at all the unnecessary theatrics for such a small wall, they glanced at Mateo, only to find him passed out on the floor, a clear sign of mana exhaustion.

Before they could move to wake Mateo up, someone had run at full speed to him on her laps, worry overcoming her otherwise rational mind. While caressing Mateo's pale face, Amy heard footsteps and looked up to see everyone looking at her with different expressions, with two standing out the most. Her sister's and Mateo's mother's which both had a "we'll have a nice talk later" expression on their face.

So busy chastising herself for letting her feelings out in public, she was startled when she felt water dropping on her skirt, the perpetrator was the only one whose expression didn't change after what she did, Wilson, who was busily trying to wake Mateo.

Lifting his head while trying not to succumb to the feeling of nausea, Mateo was confused about the hopeful look everyone was giving him until he couldn't hold his curiosity back any longer.

"What the f**k is everyone looking at. You all looking like I just resurrected or -mph" his rant was cut off by his mother, Maria, whose enhanced speedstats gave the 'divine slipper' enough force to knock Mateo's head back unto the blushing Amy.

Feeling the soft surface he landed on, Mateo looked up to find the cute red face of the girl who took advantage of him earlier, Amy. Recalling that they were still in public, Mateo shot out of her comfy laps and stood up straight, flushing away all impure thoughts before meeting his parents piercing gazes which contained a hidden meaning. Tonight, your room, the talk.

Resigning himself to his fate, he asked politely why everyone was looking at him hopefully earlier. The answer he received shocked him since he didn't feel different earlier. Accepting their reason with a pinch of salt, he looked around for his magnificent earth wall but to no avail, that is till Amy shyly pointed at it.

Seeing the results of his hard work didn't seem as fulfilling as he thought it would, as instead of a towering wall capable of tanking attacks and explosions, he was met with a construct that wouldn't even serve as an obstacle for a crawling baby.

Muffling out the sounds of uncontrilled background laughter, he walked to the book, hoping he had done someone wrong. Unfortunately for him, for once in his life he had followed instructions to the letter, with the problem being both his energy and intelligencestats which managed the cost of spells and his energy pool.

Filled with a bit of anger but nothing to do with it, Mateo kicked the mini- wall with a bit of strength only to see it crumble with parts flying off. Torn between joy at finding a new form of mass damage or despair at how weak and unstable his spell was, Mateo just gave out a loud sigh, dusted himself and the spellbook and headed out of the dungeon and to his room to shower, since he technically hadn't bathed for a month.

With Mateo leading the change, everyone went their separate ways.

Ayleen stayed to learn Archery with Amber from Leone whose heightened senses gave him an unfair advantage.

Amy was going to prepare herself for her meeting with Mrs Maria since she wasn't all to worried about what her sister would say.

Mr and Mrs Smith who were also on their to prepare for their meeting with Mateo did their best to hide their excitement. This was going to be the first 'talk' they would give to a child of their's since Wilson and his train-aholic attitude left no room for romance in his life, and their only daughter Ayleen was obsessed with Leone, something they knew wouldn't work out.

Mr Windsor and his two wives already had some cuddling and movie watching planned out, something neither of them wanted to miss.

Their daughter Carmen also had some training planned out. Like always, she was working to reduce the mana cost of her fireball spell and increase its lethality, an effort made easier with an unlocked intelligence stat and ideas gotten from watching her dungeon monsters, the Blaze Cheetahs play about.

Wilson being who he was decided on a casual swim, with extra weights of course. He would have liked to carry either a car or one of his dungeon rhinos with him or in the water. The former was impossible to get his father to agree on while the later couldn't be brought out of the dungeon, leaving him to attach mere 20 kilo weights to each limb.
