Luffy sat on the wooden fence at the village outskirts, staring toward Kaya's mansion. His usual carefree expression was replaced with something more contemplative. He chewed absentmindedly on a piece of dried meat, his mind occupied with thoughts of the previous night. The enemy was preparing, and so was he. The shadows at his feet flickered slightly, responding to his emotions.
Zoro was nearby, going through his usual sword drills. The rhythmic swish of his blades cutting through the air was steady, controlled. Beads of sweat ran down his forehead, but he never faltered. Each movement was sharp, precise, honed through years of discipline. But there was an edge to his movements—he was ready for a fight. His senses were on high alert, his muscles coiled like a predator waiting to strike.
Nami stood near the village market, replenishing supplies. She carefully counted the remaining coins they had, her mind torn between the upcoming battle and their dwindling resources. "We'll need to make some real money soon," she muttered under her breath. "This can't last forever." Her fingers brushed over a bundle of tangerines she had purchased earlier, a small comfort from home. Though she worried about what was to come, she pushed her concerns aside, focusing on the task at hand.
Usopp had disappeared earlier, saying he needed to "prepare." Luffy trusted him—he knew the long-nosed sniper had more courage than he gave himself credit for. As the sun climbed higher, Luffy's gaze drifted toward the paths leading into the village. The villagers walked about their daily routines, but something felt off. He noticed the way they averted their gazes, the hushed conversations, the way doors closed just a little too quickly. The people here knew something. They feared something.
By afternoon, Usopp returned, carrying a sack full of homemade explosives and a nervous grin. His hands trembled slightly as he pulled out one of his small devices. "Okay, I know I said I don't fight… but if they're coming for Kaya, I can't just sit back." His voice wavered, but there was determination in his eyes.
Luffy grinned, clapping Usopp on the back. "That's the spirit." He could see the fear in his friend's eyes, but he also saw resolve. That was enough.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, the crew gathered at their camp near the outskirts of the village. The tension was thick, a silent understanding passing between them. The battle was coming, and none of them intended to lose.
Luffy looked at each of them, his expression serious. "Tonight, we don't hold back."
Zoro cracked his knuckles, rolling his shoulders. "I wasn't planning to." His voice was low and calm, but his grip on his swords tightened. He was prepared to cut down anyone who stood in their way.
Nami exhaled, folding her arms. "Just don't get yourselves killed." She hated how reckless they could be, but she also knew they were the best chance at stopping whatever was coming. Despite her concern, she was ready too.
Usopp adjusted his goggles, swallowing his nerves. "Let's make sure they regret coming here." He tried to keep his voice steady, but his grip on his slingshot tightened. He had something worth protecting. He wouldn't run away this time.
Luffy let the shadows slither around him, his power thrumming in anticipation. They curled and coiled, eager for release. His fists clenched at his sides. The night would bring battle, and he was ready to unleash the full weight of his strength. The enemy wouldn't know what hit them.
