Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: The Line Holds

The ground trembled beneath Hulk's landing. A crater spread beneath his feet as rubble and debris bounced off his hulking frame. Civilians nearby froze mid-sprint, their eyes wide as the green titan unleashed a guttural roar that echoed down the shattered street. With no pause, he launched into motion like a cannonball of fury.

The Chitauri didn't stand a chance.

He grabbed one by the leg and swung it like a club, the alien's body colliding with a trio of its comrades. They flew in opposite directions, crashing into cars and storefronts with enough force to shatter concrete. A hovercraft swooped low, its blasters targeting a bus full of panicked civilians. Hulk leapt skyward with a mighty grunt, slamming both fists through the craft's hull. He rode it down like a meteor, smashing it into the pavement in a blaze of sparks and metal.

Steve Rogers, leading a group of NYPD officers, glanced up just in time to witness the destruction. "Nice of you to join us," he called, hurling his shield at another Chitauri descending on the street.

"RRRAAGHH!" Hulk bellowed in return, charging forward with unstoppable momentum. He bulldozed through an enemy speeder bike, sending alien parts flying.

Above, Iron Man zipped through the battlefield, weaving between skyscrapers as repulsor blasts flared from his palms. He took out two Chitauri fliers mid-loop and rolled away from a missile trailing his path.

"They just keep coming!" Tony shouted into the team comms. "We need containment—now!"

"I'll hold the street," Steve said without hesitation, blocking another blast with his shield and guiding civilians to safety. "But someone's gotta plug that hole in the sky."

"I'm working on it," Tony grunted, banking hard to avoid another attacker. His HUD was flashing red across all quadrants.

Elsewhere, atop a rooftop overlooking Stark Tower, Alexander stood completely still. The chaos swirled below him, but his focus was elsewhere—on the hum. The portal was more than a tear in space—it was a wound, and the Tesseract's energy pulsed through it like a heartbeat. The air shimmered with that same otherworldly force.

The shadows around him coiled tighter, reacting to his rising focus. Behind that rift, something watched. Something old.

But there was no time for curiosity.

A squad of Chitauri descended in a formation toward his position, weapons trained.

Alexander surged forward, his body breaking apart into mist-like shadows before reforming mid-leap. His blade gleamed with void energy. He struck the first enemy cleanly across the chest, then spun into a reverse slash that decapitated another. Below his feet, tendrils of darkness exploded upward, dragging two hovercrafts from the air and slamming them into one another like toys.

One Chitauri fired at close range—Alexander raised his arm, catching the energy bolt with his gauntlet. It sizzled harmlessly across the surface before he redirected the kinetic force, slamming his elbow into the enemy's throat. It dropped instantly.

"I'm headed for Stark Tower," he said into the comms, already vaulting between buildings. "Loki's still up there."

"Watch your six," Natasha warned. "They're trying to cut off the tower's base. We're keeping them back as long as we can."

On the ground, the battle intensified. A group of Chitauri broke through a barricade, rushing toward a community shelter where terrified civilians had taken cover. Black Widow dove from behind an overturned SUV, twin batons crackling with electrical charge. She moved like a blur—dodging, flipping, striking with lethal precision.

Arrows whistled through the air.

Clint Barton dropped from an overhang, landing beside her. He fired one shot mid-air, the arrow detonating on impact.

"Figured you'd miss me," he said with a cocky grin.

"Don't flatter yourself," Natasha replied, elbowing an enemy in the throat.

The two of them moved in perfect sync—her close-range finesse blending with his ranged support. Together, they began clearing the block.

High above, Alexander sprinted up the vertical face of Stark Tower using spikes of shadow as footholds. He moved like a wraith, dodging incoming fire and retaliating with precision. Every time a Chitauri fired, he warped just out of reach, retaliating with a spear of darkness or a blade through the visor.

He reached a ledge just beneath the penthouse floor. There, behind shattered windows, stood Loki.

The god of mischief stood with his arms raised, basking in the energy surging from the Tesseract. His scepter crackled with energy as he controlled the portal, eyes glowing with mad triumph.

Before Alexander could leap, lightning struck beside him.

Thor landed hard, Mjolnir in hand, his armor crackling with power.

"You're not going in alone," Thor said, voice rumbling with resolve.

Alexander's gaze flicked toward him. "Then let's finish this."

Above them, the portal pulsed again—and from deep within the void, a massive shadow loomed. Larger than the leviathans before it. Heavier. Older.

The final wave had begun.
