Chapter 54: The Beginning of the Lust Series Magic Cards
Fragmented moonlight adorned the night, casting mottled shadows across St. Marian.
At the top of the spiral clock tower in the center of the castle, Professor Didi Maxwell floated in the air, her butterfly-like wings gently fluttering.
Deep wrinkles marked her forehead, and her eyes reflected two incomplete moons.
Time is like a blade; it should never be touched.
...
As a streak of red light shot into the sky, the curtain of the night was torn open, and warmth seeped through.
Dark watered the Insect Tree with potion, fed Catgrass some cat juice, finished the breakfast brought by the DemiDevimon, and then left the tower for Traveler Street.
The autumn morning carried a hint of chill, and Traveler Street was sparsely populated.
Dark bought a protective fence and some cat toys.
After some thought, he also purchased a set of laboratory tools according to the specifications of the lab.
Ordinary lab tools weren't expensive; the costly ones were the processed parts, such as the mercury glass rod Professor Thompson had used in class.
Additionally, he bought ten 10-credit blank magic cards, two 50-credit blank magic cards, and a variety of basic materials basically, a lot of bottles and jars.
His credits visibly dwindled, leaving him with roughly 200.
"Always borrowing the lab isn't a solution. I need my own set of tools."
Dark nodded in satisfaction and carried the bundles back to his dorm.
It was just past nine.
Fortunately, the dorm was spacious enough, and setting aside a small corner for experiments was more than enough.
Next, he took out the costume-changing card he had bought the day before and placed it on the table.
According to Senior Leon's explanation, all he needed to do was engrave the final miniature alchemy array in the circle at the bottom right corner of the card to activate it.
Costume-changing cards were actually a type of item card, a variant of the armor series.
They completely abandoned attack and defense bonuses, focusing solely on style and design, with the addition of a "size adjustment" function at most.
The Kamen Rider costume-changing card Senior Leon had made was merely a crude imitation.
To put it simply, it was cosplay clothing!
Dark quickly completed the final steps and tried it on.
Well, it was convenient, but the craftsmanship was quite rough.
Especially since this "Tuxedo Mask" set wasn't much different from an ordinary suit.
If it was for Halloween, he might as well buy a high-end outfit.
"No way. If my mother found out I was wearing such cheap stuff, she'd cry, wouldn't she?"
So Dark tossed the costume-changing card into a drawer, planning to dismantle it for research when he had the time.
...
Next, Dark selected one of the nine flower cards to conduct an experiment.
The purpose of the experiment was simple: to further verify his previous hypothesis.
The phenomenon triggered by a single flower card wasn't enough to prove that all of them could absorb [Lust].
So he needed to conduct multiple experiments to confirm it.
Moreover, he wanted to see if he could control the frequency of magic input to prevent the flower cards from mutating or breaking after absorbing [Lust].
Mainly, Virt's [Forbidden Love] had given him inspiration.
If Virt could transform a flower card into a magic card, so could he.
...
[Lust: 92]
Hmm, two points higher than at the end of last month.
After exceeding 100 points, the growth of the Sin Index slowed down a bit, giving him more leeway.
Dark didn't pay much attention to the extra two points but instead focused on observing the flower card on the table.
The exquisite flower card was adorned with vibrant red plum blossoms, defying frost and snow, symbolizing resilience and charm.
But beneath this beautiful surface, what kind of evil was hidden?
He prepared himself and, using the magic pen as a medium, touched the flower card, slowly channeling magic into it.
The red plum blossoms bloomed from the card, releasing a fresh fragrance.
As the magic continued to flow, they gradually spread out, and an overly pale, delicate face appeared on the card.
The heart-shaped scale under the corner of the eye always made the otherwise pure face appear strangely enchanting.
Dark held his breath and quickly shifted his thoughts.
Senior Pandora's face dissipated, replaced by the adorable Catgrass.
"Meow~"
The Catgrass, perched on the bedside table, let out a timely meow.
"Quiet!"
The DemiDevimon on the bird stand raised its claw at the Catgrass. A hint of arrogance flashed in its eyes as it looked down at the Catgrass, "bound by its flowerpot," and drew a sense of superiority from it.
Dark remained fully focused, adjusting the output of magic.
As the magic continued to flow, the red plum blossoms on the card suddenly showed an anomaly!
Dark immediately stopped the input and moved the magic pen away.
The plum blossoms trembled violently before finally calming down.
Dark then touched the card again with the magic pen, trying to input just a tiny bit more magic.
[Lust -1]
With just this small amount of magic, the flower card crossed a critical threshold.
The previously calm plum blossoms erupted into chaos!
The crimson petals detached from their calyxes, breaking free from the card and transforming into a storm, swirling and howling.
Dark quickly retreated.
The DemiDevimon, already prepared, flapped its wings and shot out a thick syringe, piercing through the petal storm and pinning the red plum flower card to the table.
...
Dark didn't give up on the experiment because of this.
He placed the remains of the red plum flower card into a sealed bag and selected a new flower card.
"Spring colors fill the garden, unable to be contained; a single branch of red apricot stretches over the wall."
The white-and-pink apricot blossoms were shy and lovely, carrying a faint hint of temptation.
He picked up the magic pen again and began channeling magic into it.
Although he was more careful this time, the flower card still reached its critical point.
Watching the apricot blossoms tremble violently within the card, Dark pondered for a long time before deciding to input just a bit more magic!
[Lust -1]
The moment the system prompt floated across his vision, he immediately stopped the magic.
But this apricot blossom card still underwent a transformation!
The edges of the petals began to decompose into extremely fine threads!
However, these pink threads didn't turn into vine-like snakes to attack, as the black rose threads had.
Instead, they wove around the card like fabric, layer by layer, neat and orderly.
When the last gap on the card was covered by the threads, they quickly dissolved, leaving the card a faint pink.
Dark looked at the now entirely pink card with a strange expression and signaled the DemiDevimon to pick it up.
The arrogance in the DemiDevimon's eyes had just faded when it flew down from the bird stand and poked the card with its claw.
The moment it touched the card, a wisp of misty energy crawled up its claw.
It lifted one foot off the ground, spun in a circle as if drunk, its face flushed, and then fell with a "thud."
