Chapter 63: The Righteous Spirit of Robert Broheim Lives On
Dark, with his ear always to the ground for gossip, reacted like a cat spotting a fish the moment he caught wind of something.
His response was almost instantaneous. He'd been about to step into the dueling classroom when he froze, turned on his heel, and headed straight towards the source of the scream.
Instead of running down the hallway, he pulled a card from his deck: [Magical Beast: Eevee].
The academy frowned upon students casually summoning familiars in the corridors, but oddly enough, there were no such rules against magic spirits.
Of course, even if someone did summon a familiar, it wasn't as if anyone would actually care.
It was just that his little Devimon wasn't around at the moment.
"Magic Summon!"
A flash of white light erupted from the magic card, and the little Eevee sprang out, materializing as it landed.
"Eevee?"
"Go check it out. If there's any danger, come back immediately."
Dark pointed in the direction of the scream.
Eevee understood instantly and darted off.
At this time of day, the hallways leading to the classrooms were already quite crowded with students.
Those who had heard the scream were quickly converging on the location.
Although St. Marian Academy might seem to have only four houses, with four classes per grade, there were actually six grades, making a total of twenty-four classes!
With each class holding forty to fifty students, the castle housed nearly a thousand – a significant number.
Usually, the castle's many winding corridors kept the students spread out, so it wasn't very noticeable.
But when something happened, everyone flocked to one spot, and the hallways quickly became packed.
Dark wasn't the first to arrive. Several students who were closer had already reached the scene.
The little Eevee cautiously poked its head around to see what was happening, only to be suddenly snatched up by someone!
"Eevee!"
Before it could even turn its head, it was being squeezed by something strange.
"A familiar I've never seen before… Huh? A magic spirit?"
Eevee-chan was about to struggle but suddenly sensed an intimidating aura and immediately backed down.
The smarter they are, the better they are at reading the situation.
So, when Dark finally arrived, he saw his magic spirit being cradled by Pandora-senpai.
He wiped a bead of cold sweat from his brow and raised his magic card.
"Eevee-vee~"
The thoroughly flustered Eevee-chan quickly called for help.
Ignoring Pandora-senpai's gaze, Dark promptly recalled Eevee back into the magic card.
Then, pretending nothing had happened, he asked, "Senpai, what's going on?"
Pandora glanced over and said, "It's nothing serious."
Indeed, it wasn't anything major.
Just a first-year student tied to a pillar with a rope.
The prankster had clearly shown some restraint, content with merely tying the student up.
…
…
…
The student who had screamed was also found.
It was a young girl from the Noble House, now surrounded by others and visibly shaken.
This sheltered young lady had probably never encountered such a sudden situation before!
Dark took one look, and his expression shifted slightly. He then pushed through the crowd and strode forward.
There were hardly any first-year students around, so no one recognized the figure tied to the pillar, sleeping soundly, as Robert Broheim!
Despite being under some kind of spell, Robert's facial features were still quite distinct.
Combined with the fact that Virt had been wandering the hallways early in the morning, it was clear he was looking for the missing Robert.
Dark didn't harbor any strong negative feelings towards Robert.
After all, they were classmates who shared a classroom. If he could lend a hand, he would.
Before anyone could recognize Robert's face, Dark quickly took off his coat and draped it over their head.
Robert was still fast asleep, clearly having been given a sleep-inducing potion or hit with a similar spell.
The rope used to tie them up was knotted tightly, so it took Dark a while to untie it.
By this time, a few more first-year students had joined the crowd, though they were keeping their distance and watching.
The upperclassmen seemed to find this level of prank rather tame.
The first-years, on the other hand, were a bit timid.
Besides, someone was already taking care of it, right?
…
"Need any help?"
Pandora-senpai gestured towards Robert's head.
Dark, who was busy coiling up the rope, immediately replied, "No need."
If Robert were to wake up now, who knew what kind of chaos might break out.
Some people's judgment truly couldn't be trusted.
It was safer to just take them to the infirmary like this.
…
Fortunately, the infirmary wasn't far.
With Pandora-senpai's help in clearing the crowd, Dark made it to the infirmary without any trouble.
The school nurse at St. Marian was a nun who, rumor had it, had once been a high-ranking nun in the Holy Church but was excommunicated for breaking some rule and ended up working at St. Marian.
As for what rule she had broken?
Well, there were plenty of rumors.
"Is Sister Carian here?"
Dark, supporting Robert, pushed the door open.
The door wasn't locked, but it seemed no one was inside.
Dark had no choice but to lay Robert down on a bed first.
The infirmary didn't have the usual medicinal smell of a hospital; it was well-ventilated, which was a nice touch.
However, for some reason, a whip with what looked like snake scales hung on the stark white wall, giving off an unsettling vibe.
"Morning."
The white curtain on the neighboring bed was suddenly pulled aside, and Sister Carian, her hair slightly disheveled, poked her head out.
Dark was startled and instinctively asked, "And you are?"
"I'm the school nurse you're looking for."
Sister Carian slowly drew back the curtain and stepped out.
She seemed to have just woken up, yawning every now and then. Her white coat was only buttoned in the middle, giving her a somewhat casual and sloppy appearance.
Dark quickly averted his gaze and mentally marked the infirmary as a dangerous place.
This nurse was definitely off!
Very off!
…
…
Since class was about to start, Dark quickly summarized, "This is my classmate, Robert Broheim from the first-year Knight House. I found him tied to a pillar…"
"Hmm, it's a Goodnight Potion," Sister Carian said after a quick sniff. "No big deal. He'll probably wake up in another two hours."
Dark asked, puzzled, "Goodnight Potion? The kind that helps you sleep?"
Sister Carian brushed aside a strand of silver-white hair that had fallen over her eye and smiled. "Exactly. Every year, a few unlucky students who oversleep end up here. Some of them are even happy when they wake up."
Dark: "Why?"
Sister Carian: "No class, no points deducted – isn't that something to be happy about?"
Dark: "…"
No wonder you got excommunicated!
Dark pointed at Robert and said helplessly, "If it were just that, it'd be fine. The problem lies elsewhere."
Sister Carian: "What problem?"
Dark: "He's a guy."
