Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

At that moment Owen and Megan smiled at each other, satisfied.

They had done everything right, to ensure no mistake, time would soon be up not for them but Abigail.

With a last glance back at the locked door, they left the house, ensuring the house was secure again.

Owen shook the keys in his hand. "No way she's escaping there."

Immediately Megan smiled.

"Of course not. And by the time she does, she'll be as useless as our dear stepfather."

Without wasting any more time they turned back and left the house.

But they weren't careless.

They had made arrangements for every contingency.

If any security agency decided to probe, they couldn't risk being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So they went to another place—one they had booked five hours earlier.

Amelia mother was friends with the owner.

He was a real friend.

Just in case someone ever did come snooping, asking questions, the owner would verify that Owen and Megan had never left the hotel, and cctv cameras had been tampered with to cover up the entire Story.

It was an impenetrable alibi.

Just in case an investigation ever opened up.

Which, of course, was sure to happen.

The moment they disappeared— Not long after Abigail's eyes opened.

Her body ached. Her head thudded. But she was awake.

And she was furious. She refused to accept what had just happened to her.

Owen—the man she had trusted, the man she loved, the man she called her true supporter her back bone, the man she was going to marry—betrayed her for money.

And that wasn't betrayal.

They were going to murder her, take everything.

They would have imprisoned her, taken everything from her, and left her to quietly decay in some mental hospital.

Her breath exhaled in rapid, harsh gasps at the time.

At that moment she needed to escape. Now.

Her fingers moved quickly, loosening the knots on the ropes wrapped around her chair.

Her wrists burned painfully from rubbing, which made her gritted teeth, but she continued.

Finally—the ropes loosened.

Her hands were not engaged at the time.

Immediately she wasted no time.

Owen was not aware of the spare key concealed in her room.

She had stored it years before, for security reasons, and never told anyone.

It was concealed beside her bed.

Without losing any further time Abigail lurched towards it, her steps slow but firm.

She bent down, extending—

But as she crouched down, a sudden headache struck her head.

Immediately her head started shaking.

Abigail weakened by the second.

Her body screamed for sleep.

Her limbs trembled. But she did not slacken.

At that moment she gritted her teeth, warding off the pain, and propelled herself forward.

She turned the bedchamber door lock, the ring echoing in her ears.

And then—she stumbled out of the apartment.

At that moment The chill of the air hit her skin, but she barely felt it.

Her vision was fading now, her head pounding even more.

And not realizing she might know, she was bleeding, but she couldn't think about that now, her grandmother Legacy was on the line.

She had to keep going. Whenever her body begged her to stop, she thought of Owen and her grandmother.

His smirking face. His betrayal. His laughter.

She thought of her hands around his neck.

Squishing it, Seeing the terror in his eyes when he realized she wasn't someone he could murder.

That was enough to keep her going alone.

They should have murdered her immediately.

Now, she was going to make them regret not doing so.

At that moment she approached the entrance of the building, her legs started shaking.

Then she walked onto the road, step by step.

Then— Her body gave way.

Her knees buckled, and down she went.

At that time she landed on the ground, her palms flat against the chilly pavement.

At that moment she was unable to move. She attempted to raise her arms. Failed.

Her body was too frail.

Her breathing was short, shallow gasps.

Just then— She saw them.

A pair of shoes, Dark. Polished. A man's.

With the last ounce of strength she had,

immediately she lifted her head.

Her mouth barely moved as she spoke, her voice rough.

"If you marry me immediately…"she breathed, her eyes darkening.

"I will pay you one billion dollars."
