Chapter 256 - Chapter 257: Golden Dragon Approximately Equals Dragon Crystal

Chapter 257: Golden Dragon Approximately Equals Dragon Crystal

The Light Elves, dressed in their elven battle armor, radiated golden light as they fiercely fought against the densely packed dark army of Morgoth.

The Adegalan Plains, located north of the Elven City, had already been engulfed in flames and turned into a scorched wasteland.

Amid Morgoth's dark army, the most dazzling and terrifying presence was a massive golden dragon, as large as a small mountain.

Each time the golden dragon breathed fire, it incinerated swathes of elven warriors.

Its dragon scales were exceptionally hard—even enchanted elven arrows struggled to pierce them.

Crucially, the dragon was extremely cunning. It would always seize the perfect moment to breathe fire and then flee immediately, never giving the elven archers a chance to target it with a coordinated volley.

Thus, the threat it posed to the elven army far surpassed that of the terrifying Balrogs.

The Balrogs' flames were not as fast or widespread as the dragon's. Their primary attacks relied on flame whips and flaming swords, which the swift-reacting Light Elves could still dodge.

As long as they got close enough and surrounded a Balrog, twenty Light Elves could trap a regular one, and fifty had a chance of killing it.

However, it was their first time encountering a creature like a dragon, so they were unprepared. Later, when they developed equipment that could resist fire, the dragon wouldn't be as fearsome.

"So this is the original ancestral dragon that Morgoth raised? Is it really this massive?"

George was also stunned by the dragon's enormous size.

In the world of Harry Potter, the largest known species was the Ukrainian Ironbelly, but this golden dragon was more than ten times larger than that.

Thinking back to Smaug, who was famously formidable in the Third Age, he simply paled in comparison.

If Smaug were here, he probably wouldn't even survive a single volley from the Light Elves.

"With such a huge golden dragon… if I kill it and make a Dragon Crystal out of it, could I also become a Fire Dragon Slayer Mage?"

At that moment, a thought suddenly emerged in George's mind.

The method for making Dragon Crystals was available in the Fairy Tail library, since Laxus's father had used it before.

To prepare for the possibility of encountering a dragon in the Fairy Tail world, George had already learned how to make one.

The dragons in the Harry Potter world were too dull and weak. Even if they were turned into Dragon Crystals, it wouldn't mean much, so he had never tried.

But this golden dragon had been raised and created by Morgoth over more than four hundred years. It was the first evil dragon directly created by a demon god and possessed extremely high intelligence—it could breathe fire while taunting the elven army at the same time.

If this dragon were turned into a Dragon Crystal, it might not be inferior to those made from Fairy Tail dragons.

And most importantly, it might not even have the common Dragon Slayer weakness—motion sickness.

"Charge!"

Bruegraas let out a furious roar and led eight hundred human warriors into the orc army like a sharp spear, pushing toward the main combat force of the elves.

They might not have been as powerful as the Light Elves, but their fearlessness and determination significantly boosted their combat effectiveness.

In large-scale wars, the strength of soldiers is important, but morale is even more crucial.

The Light Elves, caught off guard after a long time without combat, had low morale—hence how they were driven so close to their main city so quickly.

Although the orc army looked strong in the Battle of the Five Armies, in reality, they were just cannon fodder when facing the individually powerful Light Elves. Their victories came solely from superior numbers.

So in terms of individual combat power, they might not have even been stronger than the current humans.

The flanking strike by the eight hundred warriors caught the orc army completely off guard. For a moment, they actually tore open a gap in the encirclement, giving the elven army a chance to breathe.

At that moment, George also joined the fight.

Had he not intervened, even if the eight hundred warriors managed to break through and join the elven army, they likely would have lost at least two hundred soldiers in the process.

"Rain of Light!"

A golden magic circle rose behind him as holy light arrows rained down on the orcs below, who were turning to intercept Bruegraas and his men.

If he remembered correctly, orcs of this era—and most of Morgoth's dark army—were weak to light, whether sunlight or moonlight.

That's why Morgoth had chosen to attack at night and had conjured a dark fog to block out the moonlight.

Sure enough, the holy light arrows pierced the thick-skinned orcs like acid, instantly corroding their flesh and drawing deafening screams.

Bruegraas hadn't expected George to wield such powerful magic. He'd assumed George, as a hunter, would simply provide aerial support with his bow.

He hadn't anticipated him launching a magical assault with light arrows, and with such incredible effect.

Still, he responded quickly. With a mighty roar, he and his eight hundred warriors accelerated, raising their spears and using sheer speed to plow through the disoriented orcs, who couldn't defend themselves against the light arrows.

In just a few minutes, they had broken through the orc army and reached the elven main force at the front lines.

The main elven force, seeing the human warriors arriving in support, quickly opened a gap to let them in.

Though called the elven army, in truth, after the surprise attack by the orcs and the combined assault from the dragon and Balrogs, fewer than two thousand Light Elves were still guarding the elven city.

If not for the sudden human raid disrupting the orc offensive and reviving the elves' morale, the defense might not have lasted much longer.

"Ooooooooh!"

The orcs blew their horns. The attacking orc army, dragon, and Balrogs temporarily ceased their assault.

The sudden appearance of the human warriors had thrown off the orcs' attack rhythm and relieved the pressure on the elven forces, allowing them to regroup and form a strong defensive stance.

Continuing the assault would be meaningless now. It was better to redeploy and launch a more focused strike.

This was the command of the demon dragon, Grauron, who led this battlefront.

That's right—the central front was commanded by the demon dragon Grauron. The western front was under the deputy demon lord Sauron, and the eastern front was led by the Balrog King Gossmog.

Morgoth remained at the main base in Angband, using divine power to block the moonlight.

"I didn't expect such strength from mere humans… especially the one flying in the air using light magic. Didn't the Demon God say only the Vanya Elves could use light magic?"

The demon dragon Grauron was furious about the human reinforcements disrupting their assault. If they hadn't intervened, he was confident he could have taken the elven city within two hours and secured victory on the central front by tonight—earning the Demon God's reward.
