The boy entered the building, searching by sight for the counter. As soon as he saw it, he walked there. A girl in nice cloths, a big smile, blond hair and pointy ears, was standing there.
"What might I help you with, sir?" said the girl happily.
"I want to join the guild."
"Very well, just give me an identity card or tell me your name, age and country of birth."
"My name is Leo, 14 years old and I think I was born in Ignis."
"You are pretty young, are you sure you want to join?" said the girl, while lowering her smile slightly.
"Yes."
"Ok then. Today is an examination day, you just need to go to the backyard and wait for your name to be called. Your fighting ability and basic stats will be measured and then you will be assigned a grade based on them. Do you have any questions."
"No, everything is clear."
"Very well, have a nice day and good luck on the examination."
The boy went outside where a big arena was waiting, benches all around it, resembling a colosseum or theater of the ancient times. Many people were sited, a white haired girl in silver cloths, a giant man in heavy armor and a small man, that held a stave, next to him, a man in light metal armor and a woman with a strange hat next to him, a wide but short man with a long beard.
He found an empty seat and waited until a man resembling a knight in dark armor appeared.
"Welcome everyone! As all of you should know, today is an entry examination day. Those who want to become an adventurer will need to take a test to asses their abilities, while those who want a new party member can look for the best match. The test is an easy one, you need to fight me in a duel. Don't worry for any injury, we have healing staff prepared if worst comes to shove. After the test there will be an evaluation of your overall stats using a mana tester. Now, the first one will be, Leo. Leo please come down and pick your weapon."
Leo gets up and gets a small wooden sword.
"Ok, Leo, are you prepared for the test?"
"Yes!"
"Then come at me like you would try to kill me."
Leo dashes as fast as he can, slashing at the men.
The men parries and swings his sword at the boy.
The boy lowers himself attacking at the knees.
The men takes a few steps back, taking a defensive stance.
The boy dashes once more.
The men prepares a swing from above.
Leo blocks the attack, sliding it to his left before getting close for a punch.
The men takes of a hand from the sword and uppercuts the boy sending him in the air.
The boy kicks his head pushing himself back. When he lands he takes a defensive position.
The men moves close and attacks at the legs and head.
Leo blocks and steps back as he needs. Attacks back when he finds an opening.
The men attacks back to disarm the boy.
When the blades collide, Leo's sword starts lighting up in lightning, cutting through the other sword like butter.
The men grabs his arm tightly.
"Stop!" he yelled loudly "The match has ended, well done. Now please go to the stat examination room, the first door to the left."
The men lets go. Leo going inside the building to the stat examination room. He enters, a dark skinned woman with white hair and pointy ears, standing next to a huge crystal.
"Welcome, you are... Leo, right? Please touch the crystal and wait for a few seconds."
Leo touches the crystal, which starts to light up. After a few seconds it stops, getting dark.
"Ok, everything is in order. You can leave now."
"Ok, when will I get my grade?"
"Tomorrow you should get your permit, it will be written on it. Have a nice day."
"You too"
The boy exits the room going outside.
The next day he comes back to the guild to get his permit. At the counter he finds the same girl as the day before.
"Good morning. What might I help you with?"
"I've come to get my permit, I am Leo."
"Let's see..." the girl opens a drawer, searching in it for a few seconds "Here it is."
The girl hands him a piece of metal with a big 3 on the left and words written next to it.
"What does this number mean?"
"It's your grade, they go from 2 to 7, the higher the number the stronger you are considered and 1 is left for categorizing those who weren't rated yet."
"I understand... thanks."
"No problem, if you want to get any missions or quests you can go to those boards and chose ono. You will need to bring it back here to be accepted."
"Ok."
The boy leaves the counter, stopping in front of the notice board, searching for a quest.
