Chapter 21 - 20: To or To Not

It was kind of a weird base. There were three exits/entrances, each connecting to different shops, and it took a little bit of weaving and winding through underground tunnels before finally reaching some assemblance of a hideout. It was down here, though, that your father schemed his most diabolical plots.

Your wings and the individual feathers levitating around did most of the work. Opening doors, punching numbers, moving around in every conceivable way. You were very thankful to have nabbed this quirk before being dunked into the ocean.

Speaking of which, its currents followed you. That crushing cold weight haunting you every night before bed, even at random during the day. Memories of that event would pop up at random, making the rest of your day completely miserable. Anything could trigger it. Even a simple glass of water laying on the desk! All it took was to remember.

The rooms down here were dark. Looked like Garaki had moved in just fine. Tubes were now lying around. By peeking into a few rooms, you could see the doctor was already working on Nomu, making up for what he may have lost at his main lab.

Sneaking around was pretty easy thanks to your wings. You could essentially hover if you wanted. Completely silent.

Finally you arrived at the main room where all four hallways conjoined into one space possessing a great deal of computer screens and other devices. Your father sat back in his swivel chair resting. His chair creaked a little as he turned slightly toward you. "(Y/n)?? Why did you leave so suddenly?? Where have you been??"

"I have a life, Dad.." Guess he had a new quirk which allowed him to see. You huffed as you flew a little closer.

"It's been over a month!" He remarked.

"And I've been gone for years before. Chill out."

 "...Why are you back, then..?"

You rolled your eyes, sighed, and rubbed the side of your head with the nub. All at the same time. "I um... I need your help, ight?... I have this quirk that I believe will fix my whole limbs thing."

"Oh~?" All For One leaned forward. "Sounds very powerful. You sure you would entrust it with me~?" Alright now he was just teasing you.

"You're th... Hhhh, my best viable option at the moment." He folded his hands together on his lap and you gave him a look. "Don't look at me like that, potato head."

"No, truthfully.. I'm just glad to have a way to repay you...though I guess one could also argue you rescuing me is a form of payment for creating you."

 "Give me a break.."

The old man chuckled, holding his hands out at the sides of him. "I'm only having some fun with you. It gets boring down here having no company but the doctor and his creations..." You stared down at the floor with a half glare. "Returning to the topic, what exactly will be in it for me if I help you?"

"That's what I've been thinking about..." Your eyes wandered around the room. It was also why it took you a month to reach this point. "I was thinking you might want to fix, um.. yourself too... I'm going to need the quirk back though, so I was thinking maybe we could also share 50/50 in whatever profits I make from my plan with it."

All For One rubbed his chin, humming as he thought. "Hmmm, I am in no need of any monetary income. And I am a quirk collector just as much as I am a quirk dealer~"

Shoulders dropping, "Hhhh, what do you want then?" Mumbling, "Guess I have some quirk s###s I've been compiling, but those are so trash I don't even think Garaki would want them!" Referring to those quirks you stole in mass and shoved together to save space. "Would, uhh, a hug do?"

"Psh." The villain snickered. "I of course will help return your limbs. Such a sad sight you are without them. As for what I can expect in return for me handing back over whatever power... Hmmm... I am pretty lonely down here. Can you promise to visit me on the weekends? We can have a room set up for you and everything. I would also like to hear more about these plans you have.. You've always been a genius strategist for your age, so I am interested to hear about what you have been cooking up lately~"

So he wanted...a relationship..in return? This was almost surprising. After all, it had been made very clear several times over that this man had no caring soul. ...Hmmm, guess.. in other words, you visiting often would allow for him to monitor your progress more easily as well as coax you in the "right direction." Same with the talking about your plans. You could see right through this man's disguise. He was merely moving on to phase two of manipulating you.

But then.. since you saw it coming, didn't that mean you could now easily avoid turning out the way he liked? Made sense. After all, it was as simple as turning left when he tells you to turn right. His guidance would be like a good anti-moral-compass for you! So it'd be a lot easier to know what not to do! And maybe you could turn this into your favor instead. You could in turn learn more about what all he had planned so you could better prevent it.

And besides, having his resources at your disposal on top of the Yakuza's would bring you even greater power and influence; enabling you to go about your plans with lesser difficulty...

Yess... You were quite liking this plan~

You nodded finally. "I agree. But only keep the quirk for as long as you need it to fix both yourself and me. After that, I need it back... We clear?"

Your dad rested the side of his head on his fist, smiling across the room at you with care. "Of course~" He held out his hand to you. "It should only take me about a month of training to perfect its use."

In the meantime, you had to settle for the prosthetics Dr. Garaki made.

---------------

Skit:

Garaki: Ahhh, finally! Took me a month, but Blimp is finally complete! *referring to newly finished Nomu* You like? *talking to AFO*

AFO: *places hand on test tube and uses rewind to turn the finished Nomu back into a human*

*the two just stare at each other silently* *Garaki in tears* *AFO smiling*

---------------

High-tech as they were, even a week after trying them on for the first time, your body was still getting used to the prosthetics. And since this was just a short term thing anyways, you didn't really care too much about perfecting your walk or anything in these. Instead you used them as mere crutches for now. You needed to practice your new wings anyways, so now was a great chance to do just that.

---------------

Word of All Might's death exploded across the country, the world, a week after it happened. Even down here among the Yakuza his name was everywhere, ten times more than usual. What was once a name of caution was now a name of opportunity...

Something stirred in you about a month after word got out. That old desire to help out a singular person. This time, it was someone younger than you for a change.

Someone you knew would be truly suffering at the revelation of his favorite hero's death.

----------

Izuku was not doing well. Laying on his bed, the boy stared with tear filled eyes at all the posters adorning his walls. All the toys and trinkets of the hero he so greatly admired.

Looking at them all now only brought him pain.

A dark figure stopped at his window, blocking his room from much of the afternoon's light. It pried open his window from the outside. After staring for a while in horror, he broke the statue act with a gasp, throwing himself out of bed to reach his bedroom door.

"Wait!!" A few white feathers flew in, slamming the door closed and trapping him inside.

Izuku pelted his fists against it. "Mom! Mom! Mom! Mom! A villain-!"

"-Calm down! I'm not a villain!" You jabbed, finally opening the door enough to slide in. Your animal inspired prosthetics -- very talon-like -- did not help the little boy any in believing you. But he turned around, trembling terribly, his eyes gushing with tears.

"Wh-what do you want!?" Seeing that he was on the verge of a panic attack, you held out one hand and sat yourself down by the window to appear less threatening, tucking your wings behind your back.

"Relax... I'm just here to visit. Izuku Midoriya, right?"

"V-visit?!.. Me!?" He was only nine or ten, at a midpoint between the cute flashbacks of him as a little bouncy boy and the protagonist we follow into highschool.

You tried to put on a smile to calm his nerves; something you were embarrassingly bad at. "You know what time travelers are, right?" The boy nodded, humming along nervously. Placing a metal hand on your chest, "Well I-I'm like a time traveler, ye??"

 Izuku gasped. "You are!!?"

 "Yeah!"

"How..how do you know me, then?"

That's when you chuckled. "Why, you're the world's greatest hero where I'm from! Everyone knows your name!"

"--" He stumbled a step forward. "...You mean I.." Another struggling step. "I become a hero?"

You nodded with confidence. "Not only that..but the greatest." He burst down sobbing and wailing right there, so overwhelmed with joy.

"Izuku.. You alright in there?" His mom called.

"I-I'm--I'm okay, mom!" Wiping the tears away, he only created new ones to replace them. Looking across at you again. "Why did you come here to tell me? A-and if you can time travel, can you go back and save All Might??!" Hope grew in his eyes.

You stared down at the ground for a second, suddenly solemn. "...Sorry, kid. It doesn't exactly work like it does in the movies."

 "Oh..."

"But.. that's okay." You pushed yourself upright. Standing again, you extended a hand out to him. "I want to help you become a hero if that's alright... The best hero this world's ever seen." Great...now your eyes were watering up a little too.

You were going to make sure this world had a bright future. No matter what.

---------------

By happenstance, today was also a Saturday, the first day you were to visit your dad for the weekend. You showed up a little late, expecting him to get on to you about it.

He did not. Instead, he simply showed you your room as well as a random couch, lamp, and table he had set out for you in the main room to relax on. Your dad busied himself with the many devices and screens laying around; plots and plans so complicated and detailed you couldn't bring yourself to ask about them.

You sat on the couch, no prosthetics on, using a feather of yours dipped in ink to jott down notes from the phone sitting on your lap.

He finally turned around in his chair. "What are you doing there?"

 "Exercise routine stuff." Bordely.

"Oh? I assumed you already had some kind of routing with how toned you are."

 "This is for someone else."

 "Who?"

"My new student." You smirked. "He can't do training or fighting for exercise like me, so I'm looking for things he can do. At his age, it's probably best to stick with the absolute basics."

"You..? Already mentoring someone at your age?"

"Hey, why not?" The feather dipped itself back in the ink. This was actually pretty fun. "He's got a lot of potential, and he's a good kid."

"Hm? And what is his quirk?"

"Doesn't have one, but he loves studying quirks and wants to be a great hero someday."

"..." Your father couldn't help but fidget a little in his chair. "What does he have to do with any of your plans? Surely, you aren't expecting to raise him up to become a child soldier, are you? Not like he would have much use to you as one." Tfff, like he wasn't already that in the anime. And look who the frick is talking!

"He has nothing to do with my plans. I just want to help him."

"Ah... I see. You still have a pure heart."

"..Which has been a little tainted thanks to the likes of you." You growled, side eyeing the man. He chuckled dully.

"I admit, I am not the most positive influence out there." You rolled your eyes at him. Several more quiet minutes passed.

 "...(Y/n)...?"

 "Mm?"

"How exactly do plan on raising a great hero if your goal is to be a great villain?" Your feather-pen froze. You looked up. "I don't want to be a villain."

"You used to tell me you wanted to when you were little." Intertwining his fingers together on his lap.

You scoffed and rolled your eyes again. "I was a baby. All I cared about was seeing you happy. And..well...I don't really care about that anymore."

"....I see." He leaned to the side in his chair, palm propping up his chin. "..What do you plan to do then?"

"Hhh, to be honest, my only goal these past few years has been to kill you. And as you can probably see..heh, that isn't going very well."

 AFO chuckled, "No, it isn't."

...

Dang, what DID you want to do?! Your original purpose for coming here was to reform the villains, right?? So.. then... You kind of did whatever you had planned already.

Wait... You knew the underbelly of this society like an old friend now. Meaning...

Why up-end a few notorious villains when you could up-end them all?

Maybe there was purpose to these darker years of your life?

 Yes..yes, that was it!

You could become a hero. And not just any hero, but one that used her influence both in the shadow and the light to actually change things??

Why save only a few villains when you could instead save them all?

"I know you're going to call me stupid, Dad...but I think I want to be a hero."

 "Tch... You're right....

 That is stupid."

---------------

Sleep was not an option tonight, apparently. Didn't help any that this was a completely new place. The first time you had ever slept in a room so dark, so void of outside ambiance. Those familiar feelings along with the dread from the ocean followed as they had the past month, making sleep twice as hard.

You rolled out of bed and sprouted two wings to hover you out of the bedroom. There was something along the lines of a kitchen just around the corner anyways. A late night snack would at least dull your boredom. Floating along, you stopped at your dad'd bedroom since his light was still on. Not that it was necessary for him. Perhaps he even left it on without realizing. You peeked in anyway. There, opposite side of the room to his bed, the villain sat on his knees with his back to you before a shrine of sorts. Looked like he was praying, or at least paying his respects to someone. Leaning in a little more, you finally saw the picture at the very top of it. An old and warn picture of Yoichi, AFO's little brother, was displayed before the burning incense.

Your mouth opened a little, a silent "huh" on your mind. ... Oh yeah. That was right.

Your dad was after OFA this whole time, trying to save what was left of his brother. Guess..now that his brother's quirk was gone, the old villain finally had a reason to mourn the loss of his bro.

Man, he...really fought long and hard, only to then go and ruin his own plans like that. Did he even mean to kill All Might?! Or.. maybe just like you...it was all just an accident. Hmh, at least he knew a taste of what you felt..if he even had emotions, that is.

You slipped back to leave. "You are free to have a closer look if you like." You flinched, eyes tightly shut. Gah. He caught you!

"Actually, I've been trying to avoid you as much as possible today, soooo..." But you didn't leave, though you leaned away like you were about to. You still stared through that crack in the door at your dad's slouching back. He didn't seem all too interested in following or pestering you, especially about personal matters. Almost like he was being polite about it. ... "Don't think pretending to mourn will get you any sympathy, alright? Even if your brother's ghost was here, I doubt he'd care."

"(Y/n)." Catching you a little off guard with sudden sternness. "That is enough." Definitely sounded like he was in no mood to argue about it.

You left...returning a few minutes later with a feather or two wrapped around a simple rice ball. You casually entered and sat on the end of your father's bed. Staring at his back from an angle, able to see that memorial a whole lot better from here. You sat there silently, eating to fill the silence. Your dad was humming something deep under his breath. You didn't recognize the tune. Probably an old person thing.

"Did you come to join me, or you actively disrespecting my own brother just to spite me?" Your eyes widened a little. Guess this was a bit rude now that you thought about it. You shoved the rest of the rice ball in your mouth and sat yourself down beside him, staring up a little now at the well decorated memorial he had set up.

"I...never knew him... What was he like?"

"Ghh.." Dad's shoulders dropped. "He was stubborn, self-sacrificial, and an unreliable, rebellious creature. But...he had more spirit in him than I could ever hope to match... Too bad that came into conflict with such a short life." You hummed sadly. "...We made a promise to one another as orphaned children. That we would never leave one another. ... He gave up on me. But..I held on. I wished to prove myself a better man than him by fulfilling our promise when he tried so hard to break from it... I- k'hm!.. I may have let things get too personal between myself and my ambitions. ...I see that now. Now that my brother is no longer an issue..." Looking up at the picture. "I am truly free to do as I please." You held your breath, but the man broke through your anxiety with a gentle smile and soft laugh. "Problem is I no longer know exactly what it is that I want to do with my life... Your mother broke me..you know that?" He stared down at you kindly. You shook your head while meeting his hollow eyed gaze. His genuine smile widened some. "No... I didn't even realize until she was gone how much that woman had changed me. Turns out..she accomplished what she wanted; 'ruining me.' And now, tff, look at me." Glancing down uselessly at his own lap. "I look like how I feel. Like a mere husk. I have little to no idea what I want to do with myself now that my brother's quirk and that 'symbol of peace' are gone." He sighed again. You just stared at him...genuinely amused. "What?? Didn't expect all that from me?"

You stared, and you stared, and you stared, and you stared...until finally.

"...What did happen..to all of my siblings?"

 "Your siblings, huh?"

"Yeah." Your eyebrows tightened. "You did have thirty-seven of us after all. Did any of them even make it to teenhood like me??"

"Most... No. The first ten or so were late-term aborted after proven quirkless. You see, it is insanely rare to even naturally replicate a quirk like mine; same goes for your mother's, so imagine the chances for a child of ours to have both. I started this knowing our chances were terribly slim." You bit the inside of your cheek as he explained, staring down at the floor. This was...insanely uncomfortable to listen to. But..it was something you needed to know before moving on with life. Your dad continued, chillingly chill about it as he was before. "Your mother convinced me that there might be a chance that a quirk like ours might just need some extra time to develope. This logic didn't make very much sense, but I knew how badly she wanted to experience motherhood. So I allowed her to raise her children until the age quirks typically sprout... I'll have you know, it took me a lot of practice to become the father that raised you. Let's just lay I never knew my parents, so I had very little frame of reference."

Growling, "What happened to the children..?"

 "Hm?"

"You're off topic... I need to know what happened to the ones who lived."

...

Your dad stood, crossed the room, and dug through a few drawers until he found it. Sitting beside you again, the man handed you a thick picture book. "I used to keep up with this, though I am not quite sure why." Opening the book to the first page, you saw several family portraits. Same parents. Different kids. Occasionally, two or three kids stood together in one picture, often looking very close.

Your eyes watered at the sight of all those innocent faces. Some had white hair. Some had silver hair. Some had red hair. And some even had really cool combinations of the hair colors! Same with the eyes and facial features... There were just so many.

"It got harder every time I sent one of my own to Garaki. Some would be born with mere fragments of our quirks, while others had near replicas deserving of being stored away for safe keeping. But never was one born with both of our quirks in perfect condition." He ruffled your hair with one big hand. "It's why I always called you my angel. You were a true blessing to your mother and I. ...Regrettably, I grew a little softer about the rules after raising a few. Started to blame myself for getting attached. And I let our families live just a little longer every time." As he spoke, you flipped through the messy scrap book absolutely loaded with pictures, documenting all of the small children's wide grins and happy trips and occasions. You would have never known their family was so rotten to the core from these. "Regrettably... I let your mother get too attached to her children as well. But, we couldn't raise all of them at once, and the thought of releasing a part of myself into the world that was imperfect sounded curler than simply killing them. ... There is a part of me that regrets what I have done to my family, I will admit..." Elbows resting on his knees as he crossed his legs, the man sat there beside you propping up his chin in his hands. "But I was so blinded by ambition then to even consider I might one day have regrets... Hhhh. Oh well. At the very least, I still have you. My most perfect creation." He then wrapped an arm around you and tugged you closer to him. But you were in no mood for his warmth, so you shoved away.

"Okay, but what exactly would happen if I was born quirkless??" Glaring up at the villain. "What then?!" It was stupid, but needed to be asked. Both of you sat there, staring somewhat at the other.

"I...can't imagine a world where you are imperfect."

"Okay, well try to at least!" You angrily slapped his back with your wing. You wished to do more. You wanted to kill him again but knew your soul would most certainly crush if you did.

"..." He breathed. "Hm.. The world would sure be a lot calmer right now."

Shooting up. "Alright, that's it! I'm going back to bed!"

"If All Might had died after you were killed I would have most certainly gone mad." Still sitting with his back facing you. "If your mother had another child after, I would have longed for your smile in that child's eyes. My standards would raise through the roof for those who followed and I most certainly would have been dissatisfied with their average levels of intelligence and quick thinking." Your back was to him still, shoulders tight and chin tucked as he listed them all. "Above all else, I would have missed your wonder. Your excitement and genuine interest in every little thing I had to say was something no other child could grant me... Telling you stories was like passing a part of my very self on to you. And the way you cherished my wisdom and my words... I know I am a monster, and that has been my intention throughout my life. But, I ask that you go back to seeing me as nothing more than your father. Hard, I know...but I miss those days too."

Every part of you was tense, even after you inhaled large to calm yourself down. "...I miss those days too... Thank you for telling me everything, but things will never go back to how they were before." You left and slammed his door closed behind. Your face itched furiously by the time the door came to separate you two. There was no one else alive who filled you with so much hate.

---------------

Disgusting as he was, AFO was also necessary. So you sat through each of those boring weekends, putting that free time to good use.

It took two months for your dad to safely learn and use Eri's rewind quirk, meaning that by the time you finally learned to use those prosthetics properly, it was time to let them go... You kept them hidden away in your room for just in case you needed the spare parts or something.

Your "mentoring" of Izuku wasn't much of a priority right now. It was more about forming a relationship with him than anything. You were kind of like the mischievous older sibling to him; always sneaking around, hiding in bushes, sending him messages in code for the fun of it, and sneaking into his room to crawl around on the ceiling and help out with homework if he needed it.

You gave him a handy "training routine" which was literally just some basic daily exercises to help him build stamina and a little muscle. But he took this to heart, seeing these basic exercises as his first step to becoming that hero you promised he would one day become! It was...cute.

He still loved All Might, though there was a pinch of sadness to it now. His merch wasn't as spread out around his room, and was instead concentrated into one corner with all his most valuable artifacts in one place. This left more room for him to enjoy other heroes, though you warned him not to worship Endeavor, the current #1, with such high regard. And of course your words, being those of a 'time traveler' and all, were taken as gospel by the kid.

The boy was so bright and a pure, it wasn't even a burden to visit him. So, guess then you could call him a friend. A little brother, even.

It was a little hard to come up with a lie about the returning of your limbs. He didn't yet know the full extent of your quirk. Speaking of which, he also wasn't allowed to tell anyone about the "time traveler" either, as that would definitely mess up the timeline. In the end, you told Izuku that your limbs grew back thanks to special future nano tech that just took you a little while to fix up.

After receiving Eri's quirk, you handed it back to Kai and things there continued as usual. And everyone there was shocked but glad to see you had your normal limbs back.

You still had to visit your dad though as per the deal... >_< Knew the guy'd literally hunt you down if you refused.

And as for becoming a hero. Well, why not give UA a chance?! It had honestly never crossed your mind to actually attend until now, but you thought that by leading a good example for Izuku, he would have a better idea on what to do and where to go when his time finally came. And, well, guess it would be fun to see what the school was like pre the main cast.

Welp! Now that you only had a couple months to train ahead of time, what quirk would you choose~?

And furthermore how could you expect to attend such a school without being recognized?

---------------

Your whole body was insanely stiff as you sat across from the principle. A few other, less recognizable heroes were here as well just to watch you closely. You sweat like crazy, hands fidgeting. A glass wall stood behind the principle, meaning there was an easy out should they turn on you. If the windows were somehow blocked off, well, then I guess you might have to reveal some of the quirks you've been hiding in order to escape without hurting anybody.

 "Now," Nezu started.

 "M!" Sitting up straighter.

"You're probably wondering why I called you here before you could even participate in the written exam." You nodded feverishly. "Allow me to explain. You see, there is a criminal on the loose right now who looks an awful lot like you. So we just wanted to ensure your background check was legit."

"Unless I made a mistake, everything should be just fine." Yeah real great job there, (Y/n)! Way to look suspicious!

"Alright then.." The mouse then cleared his throat. "Just to clarify.. your name is (Y/n) Diforester." Hold on a second.. "You are sixteen years old. Your parents are overseas at the moment." Wait, this...wasn't the fake information you put into the application. "And you've been living with your older brother, Jin Diforester, here in Japan for three years now." Wait if Jin was somehow connected to this, then he would use the year you two met as a reference, right?

"Uhh, I think you mean six years, sir!" Just sounded more likely of him to put. "And it's 'DEE--forester.' Emphasis on the DE." Nezu glanced down at the application papers, pleased to see you had corrected the same error he had purposefully made.

"Mind stating the address as well?"

You recited what all you remembered from the address to Jin's old place, which added up on the paper as well.

"Alright then! Thank you for your time. I hope you enjoy the entrance exams!" The mouse kindly waved to you. You smiled politely and bowed back.

 "Appreciated, sir."

After you left, Nezu turned to look over his corner at the edge of a bookshelf. "Well?" Following his one worded question, Aizawa stepped out from behind the little cranny, steely eyes on the door.

"I know what I saw..." Remembering the sight of you on the beach a year ago. "Even with her regeneration, the (Y/n) I saw couldn't regrow her limbs. So, either she found a new quirk between then and now, or this really is one of her brother's replicas."

Folding his paws on the desk, "In any case, it is probably a good idea that we keep an eye on her... Hey, Aizawa, weren't you going to apply for a teacher position?"

---------------

The exam would happen in an hour, but you were simply too pressed with questions to wait for everything to be over before asking. You soared through the clouds far out of sight at top speeds until you reached Jin's old place. It had honestly been ages, and you'd never seen the apartment complex from this angle!

You landed on the roof. Unsurprisingly but also surprisingly, another you was waiting there. "What?!"

"Let me explain, alright?!" Other you pushed herself up and held her hands out. Tears sprinkled her eyes pretty quickly. "After Mom died and you suddenly vanished.. Jin was grief stricken and made a copy of you to keep him company: me."

 "HUH?" You tilted your head.

Other you gestured to you. "...I don't know what you went through. And I never will. Heh.." Eyes meeting the ground. "But I know it had to be rough... Point is... I don't have a quirk. So, hoping that someday you..me...we would someday make an appearance again, I thought, 'what would the real me want from someone like me?'" Choking up, she stared head at you. "'What could I possibly do to help her out?'... Well, it's not big, but I figured it out... I lived a normal life for you." She then stepped forward and pulled out a small notebook that easily fit into her back pocket. Handing it to you, "I went to school, got a little job, and helped Jin out at the shop...all so that one day when someone needed to do a background check on you..you would have one without a doubt. ...From there, I took a wild guess that you would apply for UA and decided to intercept your application with my own. So...yeah." Hands slapping nervously at her sides. "Here we are now."

You flipped through the notebook carefully. So many small details, underlined parts, and even double underlined parts. Wow... Crazy seeing notes from someone who knew exactly how your brain worked.

"I... I don't know how to thank--... Wait, but what now?"

Closing her eyes, other you let the tears fall. She answered while turning and walking toward the edge of the building. "I'll disintegrate after taking too much damage, right?? So.." Staring down the tall drop, "all I really need to do is jump..and you'll be able to take my life over...and truly live as me."

Her body dipped off the edge, but for some reason that was when your body moved. You jumped just in time to grab her arm as she slipped off the edge, holding her up last second. She looked to you confused.

"Huh?.. But you don't need me anymore! I- I'm useless for whatever you--"

"-No, you're not... Trust me... Even if all you end up doing is sitting around for the rest of your life....it is rewarding enough just to see a part of me..that...well." Her eyes were so much brighter; more emotive and full of life. "It's enough knowing there's a part of me that didn't have to suffer... So get back up here, idiot. I'm not through with you yet... We'll work something out, promise."

The other you smiled and rubbed the tears away with her other hand. "..Okay."

---------------

The written test was sadly where you would probably struggle most. But, that behind you, you rolled your arms, grinning up at the large gates that separated you from all the rest of those robots.

Heh. This would be a cinch.

The alarm blared and everyone in the front raced on through! You ran around the outer rim, not wanting to get caught up in all that traffic and ending up losing points. Surprisingly enough, so far this was all playing out a lot like how you vaguely remembered it to in that show!

Didn't take long before you stumbled upon your first robot. Tall, green, intimidating. What else was new? Dang, now that you were a little more experienced, your biggest challenge was simply not to use multiple quirks at once! You easily tucked and rolled to dodge a few shots it fired at you, standing immediately after and leaning into a full sprint. You continued to parkour around until you reached the machine. Touching its metal surface, that's when you really smiled.

An image formed in your head. Of all those family pictures. All those children with innocent smiled. Your siblings... And your dad. You liked to imagine his face simply crumbling away.

Within seconds, the entire machine was nothing but dust. You spilled forward, deeper into the heart of the fake city in search for more prey. Yeah, that's right! You were going to become a hero with a villain's quirk! And you were going to do so with a smile as well.

One robot, two robot, three robot. You recalled how this ranking system worked, making sure to save just as many people as you killed robots. Four robot, five robot, six robot. --Hold up wait that was weird!

Someone ran past you at one point who you vaguely recognized. Someone with pink hair..and most recognizably of all, the scaly green body of a lizard.

"SPINNER?!" You cried. The teen didn't respond. He was too intensely focused on chasing robots. The sight of him alone made you smile.

You had no idea how, but looks like that guy was already on the right track. You didn't even have to do anything directly to save him.

Seven robot, eight robot, nine robot, ten! Surely, you were getting up there in points by now! I mean, you did just have to simply touch the machines for them to vanish.

 Then,

DUDUDDUUDDDD!

 "IS THAT THE ZERO POINTER!?"

 "LIKE H### I'M FIGHTING THAT!"

In the center of the city, a huge robot, taller than the buildings even, rolled through the center street. Your right brow rose curiously. Wasn't that thing new when...oh whatever. A smirk grew.

Sure would be cool if you destroyed it.

You raced ahead, toward the robot. Murdering that thing could easily get you some good rescue points on top of all the ones you already have! Still a great distance away, when annoyance mixed with worry and you wondered if you would even reach it in time, something else jumped into the fray. A little black dot leapt into the sky, screaming at the top of their lungs as they made their collision course with the robot's face.

BOOOM!

 CLANK!

A shockwave of air washed over the land, blowing you back enough to take a step. Hair flown out of your face, your blue eyes watched wonderful as the huge robot dropped to the ground.

 You were simply in shock.

 Didn't...

Didn't the exact same thing happen with Deku when he...?

Speaking of the mysterious black dot, it started to fall toward the ground. Ohnonono! Did anyone have a quirk to catch them?!

You were probably the only one.

You ran, you sprinted, and when things looked hopeless, your wings tore through the shirt, a strong thrust shooting you toward the falling person. You caught him just in time.

It was a rough landing, but you caught the black haired kid and wrapped yourself around him, wings retracting just in time for your back to take the brunt of your fall! Not preferable, but at least that tore the hole in your shirt a little wider, hiding the fact that there were once two wings.

You set the teen down on the cracked road and started assessing the damage. A gasp. His legs were all dangerously purple! Same with his right arm! Your heart throbbed. All these injuries. How he got them. It...it couldn't be...

"(Y...Y/n)..?" The kid groaned. Your eyes shot up, gasping again as two red eyes pried through that head of long black hair.

There it was... That familiar face.

 "...Tenko...?"
