"MaomaoMon is dead!"
"Oh yeah!"
As MaomaoMon disintegrated into fragments of data, all the Digimon on the Wandering Island erupted into cheers. The air was instantly filled with joy and celebration.
Moss turned her gaze to Onismon.
Although this ancient beast that once wrought havoc was now calm under the influence of her Burst Mode Ultimate Charm, Moss knew that if she canceled her soul reception spell, Onismon would quickly return to its violent nature.
As powerful as Ultimate Charm was, it was only a temporary fix.
"What if… while it's still lost in admiration and won't resist, we just take it out and turn it back into a Digi-Egg?" Moss suggested telepathically.
Lucy, the Angewomon, proposed, "Maybe there's hope for it. We could try purifying it with holy power."
Moss responded, "But Onismon is violent by nature, not because of corruption. I don't think holy power will work."
"Still worth trying," Lucy said. "If it fails, then we can destroy it."
"Alright…"
With a sigh, Moss flew down and landed atop Onismon's head.
Feeling Moss's footstep on its crown, Onismon squinted happily.
So happy~ ︿( ̄︶ ̄)︿
"Peace Rhapsody!"
Moss spread her arms and activated Venusmon's signature move, a technique that instills even the most violent beings with a longing for peace.
She layered it with purification from holy power.
"——!" Onismon's pupils trembled.
Ah… Something is… awakening…
Something it had never felt before—something called conscience.
[Sanzomon: 50%]
[LovelyAngemon: 100%!]
At the same time, her evolution panel updated. Not only had the chance to evolve into Sanzomon increased, but LovelyAngemon's probability had hit 100%.
Moss blinked, then smiled.
"So the final key to LovelyAngemon was purification! Sanzomon seems to require leading others to goodness or awakening their conscience…"
She waited for Peace Rhapsody to finish, ready to gather her DigiSoul and receive LovelyAngemon's soul.
While she didn't really need LovelyAngemon's melee abilities, having her soul would still be useful.
But then… a problem.
She couldn't ignite her DigiSoul.
Not due to any outside interference—just one simple reason:
"I've run out of DigiSoul again."
Her DigiSoul had been running low all day. The intense use and draining of the reserve stored in the Demon Lord seal had left her constantly short.
Her soul reception magic was unique—besides using mana, it also consumed DigiSoul. The last bit she had used came from when she was eating bread earlier.
Now, it was all gone again.
Moss canceled her soul reception spell and reverted to her Angewomon form. Only in that state could she recover her DigiSoul the fastest.
As her transformation completed, her Ultimate Charm effect began to fade.
"Onismon, can you understand me?" she asked the giant bird beneath her.
Its feathers gradually lightened in color—from deep blue to light blue, and then to a fantastical white-blue hue.
In Digimon, internal changes often manifest externally—and vice versa. This was a clear sign.
"I can," Onismon replied.
Moss could tell from the calm tone that this wasn't the same beastly Onismon from before—it had truly turned over a new leaf and gained a conscience.
This was thanks to the joint effects of Peace Rhapsody and holy purification.
No wonder Sanzomon's evolution chance increased.
Moss smiled. "How do you feel now?"
"When I think about the terrible things I did… I feel so ashamed. I used to be such a brutal Digimon…" Onismon said, breaking down into sobs.
Moss was momentarily speechless.
That's quite a change… so emotional now?
She comforted it gently. "To acknowledge and correct your mistakes is one of the greatest virtues, as the old saying goes. Start making things right from today."
"Okay."
Originally, the Digimon on Wandering Island believed Onismon was their guardian—though that had been a misunderstanding.
But now, it truly had become the island's protector.
"First, let's return the island to the Digital World," Onismon declared.
Moss asked, "Oh? Are you going to destroy the island?"
Onismon chuckled. "There's no need. I'm the island's master. It only drifted through the dimensional rift because it lost me. Now that I've returned, it shouldn't wander anymore."
Master?
Moss recalled all the Onismon statues scattered across the island and finally understood.
This island was Onismon's domain. No wonder there were so many statues of it.
—So vain, she thought.
"RAAAAH!"
Onismon let out a mighty roar.
With it, waves of white light spread out, engulfing the entire Wandering Island.
The ground trembled. Before the astonished eyes of the Digimon, red steel pipes shot up from the earth, intertwining above like vines.
From afar, the combination of the island's terrain and these steel pipes resembled a giant birdcage!
Onismon, eyes gleaming, roared:
"Prepare for takeoff! Destination — the Digital World!"
Cheers erupted across the island.
None of them were native to the Wandering Island—they were originally from the Digital World.
While it drifted through dimensions, the island had occasionally intersected with the Digital World, dragging Digimon away like a fishing net.
Now, returning to the Digital World meant returning home.
Moss smiled and flew toward the humanoid Digimon's sector, where Kendomon, the younger Digimon, and Kari Kamiya waited.
"It worked, Kari," she said with a thumbs-up.
Kari beamed. "Once we're back in the Digital World, I'll find my brother for sure!"
Moss paused, then said, "Kari, this island is returning to the Digital World—but not the same one your brother Tai is in."
"Eh?" Kari blinked.
There's more than one Digital World?
Moss explained, "Think of it like different countries on Earth. They all have people, but their customs and landscapes differ."
Kari nodded.
Moss added gently, "Don't worry. I'll take you back."
"Thank you, Angewomon."
Moss smiled. "In a way, it's my fault you got caught up in this… though the real blame lies with that Millenniummon guy."
Kari nodded, raising her fist. "It's all Millenniummon's fault!"
Moss chuckled. "By the way, one more thing."
"What is it?"
"I've burned through too much DigiSoul," Moss admitted. "I need a few days to recover before we can return."
If it were just to summon Mastemon's soul, it would only take a few hours.
But finding Tai's specific Digital World without coordinates might take dozens—or even hundreds—of tries.
"No worries," Kari said, ever understanding.
It's not like they'd be stuck forever. She wasn't worried.
Though the Digital World was unfamiliar, having Moss by her side gave her peace of mind.
Now, she was more curious than afraid—excited even—about exploring the Digital World like her brother once did.
"Angewomon," she said, "Apocalymon once said every Chosen Child has a partner. My brother's is Nyaromon… so, who's mine?"
Though Moss had told her she wasn't a true partner Digimon, Kari still hoped her partner would be Moss.
Moss began to reply, "Your partner is—"
But just then, a booming voice echoed from afar:
"Digital World! I, Onismon, have returned!"
"…."
Moss rubbed her ears and glanced back.
Looks like Onismon's grown a conscience… but he's still a loud, dramatic maniac. Yelling his return across the entire sky?
However…
The current generation had long forgotten who Onismon even was.
Across the Digital World, Digimon young and old tilted their heads in confusion.
"Onismon? Who's that?"
"Sounds powerful…"
"Hmph! Stronger than Guilmon? Doubt it!"
In this Digital World—the fourth one—there was a unique transportation network: Trailmon, rail-riding Digimon whose tracks spanned the world and even reached space.
In the original story, even after the Digital World was destroyed, those tracks still remained!
On one such track heading toward the Dark Area, a red Trailmon was carrying a group of ten-year-olds in its cars.
It was the main cast from Digimon Frontier — Takuya Kanbara, Koji Minamoto, Izumi Orimoto, Tomoki Himi, and Junpei Shibayama.
They all looked around when the sky echoed with Onismon's voice.
"Who even is Onismon?"
Their eyes turned to the two Digimon in the carriage — one yellow named Q&Amon, and one white called Bokomon.
"Onismon… Onismon…" Bokomon rubbed his chin thoughtfully, then shrugged. "Never heard of him."
"…" The kids all deflated.
Q&Amon asked, "Not even in your book?"
Bokomon had a book filled with all kinds of Digital World knowledge—even entries on the Ancient Warriors.
"Not in there," Bokomon confirmed.
Q&Amon sighed. "Then why do you act like you know everything?"
Smack!
Bokomon flicked Q&Amon's forehead, knocking him flat.
Then, casually, he analyzed: "If Onismon says he's 'returned,' and I've never heard of him, that means he's ancient. Very ancient."
A weak excuse? Maybe. But also reasonable.
"Only other ancient Digimon would know who he is."
Clearly, Bokomon wasn't one of them.
Most ancient Digimon had long since perished.
Only a few survived.
One such survivor now stood beneath a rose-colored star in the Dark Area — the very place the Chosen Children were heading.
Beneath that star sat a castle.
Digimon called it Cherubimon's Castle.
Inside, a tall, shadowy rabbit-like figure muttered, "Onismon… wasn't he taken out by AncientGreymon and AncientGarurumon? Has he been revived? Tch. And now, of all times…"
Meanwhile, deep underground—deeper even than the Dark Area—a pair of eyes snapped open.
Though they glowed like sapphires, they radiated a chill colder than an icy prison.
"One more troublesome fool has emerged," said a cold, strangely childlike voice.
Was it male? Female? It was hard to tell.
Holy… yet demonic.
After a brief pause, the voice declared:
"Royal Knights… heed my call!"
Two orbs of light — one blue, one pink — responded to the command, transforming into towering figures:
Dynasmon and Crusadermon.
…
Back in the Digital World, the Wandering Island floated among the clouds at an altitude of several thousand meters — a city in the sky.
Onismon stood at the island's edge, peering down at the earth below.
He saw land riddled with holes — missing mountains here, vanished lakes there.
Natural terrain shifts were expected. But this many gaps?
These weren't natural.
Some Digimon must have devoured the world's data in their quest for power.
Onismon scoffed. "Power gained by cheating is no match for power earned through training.
"And to destroy the Digital World like this… far worse than anything I ever did!
"A thousand times worse—no, ten thousand times worse!"
He had once been a menace, attacking big Digimon on a whim.
But even then, he couldn't tolerate this level of devastation.
"…" Lucy, the Angewomon, was equally stunned.
Any outsider who saw this ruined Digital World would be shocked.
It looked like a cake gnawed on by rats.
Do these Digimon… really treat their own world like this?
