Chapter 14 - Moments of Discovery and Chaos
"To those moments whether we won or lost. (Cheers to the end of the World.)"

It was the eighth day by the time Levi had arrived at the outskirts of the capital.
Entering through the western blockade, Levi had to deal with furry Yeti's along the way. Furry white ape-like humanoids. Their fur a lot more similar to white shaggy hair… Like a cross between a shitsu-dog and a 9 foot tall human.
The smallest of the white haired creatures easily loomed atleast 8 feet tall while the largest… Levi didn't even want to think of that until he encountered one. As the smallest one of them seem to be capable of neglecting barrages of rounds and even explosives.
Their hide seemingly thickening as the fields of frost brought overlap with their kin. Enhancing each other's strength. Each of their step enough to create a field of ice, together… a snow storm. The only downside is their slow and simple nature. The quakes created by their step as well as the looming icy cloud above their heads, a dead giveaway for any of the sneakiness they have.
And that is if you don't spot them from a mile away due to their size.
…
.
As dumb and slow the [Yetis] are however, the destruction they cause however were more than enough to make up for the lack of speed. Along with their sheer size and strength, The hulking furries carried an aura of frost spreading outwards for around 2-3 meters with every step. Seeing the isolated blotches of frozen ground, Levi guessed that this wasn't ice that simply melted once gone.
The semi-permanent damage they're doing to the environment a lot more obvious as the apes grouped up. Levi noting how this side of the capital is starting to look more and more similar to whatever frozen hell looked like.
.
Proceeding further into the capital, [EVA] even spotted groups of Yetis growing in size, the frozen fields their carrying growing along with them. Their new found size, allowing them to easily bulldoze through defenses and steel barricades with ease. The creatures proving themselves far deadlier in a siege, Levi evading the beasts like a plague after realizing the obvious weakness, the military having long adapted to the army of gigantic slow apes, bombarding them from a far, long before they reached any chance to attack.
Making the [Yeti]s look more like cattle at the face of humanity's weapons. Which of course made Levi's journey a hundred times more deadlier but he had [EVA] to help him with that.
As he went on, he saw more and more gigantic corpses along the way. Almost making Levi second guess them as ice cream making furries, If not for the destruction they're causing. He, of course went ahead and killed a couple of the yeti's whenever he had the chance, his [Twin Chained Sickles] easily carving through even their enhanced fur and flesh though he easily lost interest, as he got closer and closer to the HQ.
The urgency of the situation of the capital now a far more urgent topic in his mind.

[EVA] Intercepting information. Currently showing, status of the Capital…
Utilizing [EVA], The situation of the capital revealed itself as soon as Levi crossed the inner streets. [Yetis], [Hellspawns] and [Skeletal Swamp Trolls]… were all over the place. The capital being a lot worse than Levi initially thought. [EVA]'s latest estimate showing that it would only be an hour or two before the capital was entirely wiped off the map.
Taken over by either one of the three species.
The hostility of the species over one another far greater against whatever they thought of as humanity allowing troops and soldiers to somehow navigate through the chaos… Though that simply remedies a way out for his fellow countrymen. Making him sigh, as the facts presented themselves to him. His mind reeling as the very thought of his country falling almost making him rush over, though thankfully he was able to control himself…
With stealth and speed, Levi threaded his way towards the headquarters. Bypassing cameras, and security as he directly blended in within the chaos at the HQ only to find out that the Council. The father figure of Levi, the current Warmaster Victor Ramizer already having started the operation for moving out of the capital by the time Levi arrived.
In the shadows he watched as the Warmaster finally concluded that it was time to pass on torch to a new-…
Basically sending away the future generation at the cost of their own life… Levi felt his heart being gripped as he found himself, similarly sent away after meeting the old man. His skills and experience tagged as 'Vital' for possible re-establishment of their country… And even the world…
But Victor didn't task him with any of that that.
In the end, like the old commanders that decided to be left behind, the Warmaster… He… just wanted him to live…

*CRASH*
Levi fumed as he walked passed the HQ, an aura of rage making way for him as he literally ransacked the inventory. Not carrying of the mess he made, knowing that it wouldn't matter anyway. With the majority of the younger generation having already left, the capital now had more guns and explosives than people who can make use of them with.
Which was by in it of itself sad, but Levi had long froze his emotions still. His mind more focused on refilling the magazines of his kevlar Piercing Pistols.
Staying on track, he found that all of the drones have been used up during the long eight days of the defense. Making him wince at the loss. He had yet to test it, but he was pretty sure that he could hook up the drones to be controlled by [EVA] which could have served as additional visibility and automated scouting.
And maybe with the additional vision he could…-
'No, that's impossible.'
Levi cut himself off, before his anger could once again resurface…
He wanted to take out all of his anger on the monsters, the system, on who knows what or who. His hands almost blurring as he grabbed a bunch of Incendiary, as well as anti-tank grenades, putting as much as he can in the huge bag he was carrying, the scene making him look like a Wartime Santa which would have been funny if not for the world ending before everyone's eyes.
Levi had initially wanted to grab an anti-tank rifle, as well as some materials gathered from carcases of monsters that he had yet to encounter, and as much as possible still prioritize mobility. However, he ended up choosing to discard everything the simplicity of filling up his bag with more bombs having more of an immediate use based on his observation...
Coming in from outside, seeing all of the corpses and along with them… guns and ammunition, littered literally everywhere.
…
… …
Time blurred as he threaded back to the outskirts, Levi finding himself back at the western blockade. Encountering the several if not hundreds of monsters along the way. Allowing him to get a clearer picture of the other monsters he had yet to encounter up close…
.
As the name suggests, [Hell Spawns] are the most dangerous out of the three. Hellspawns are large horrific disfigured dog/snapper like creatures who bleed thin lava. Not as large as the Yeti's but fast. Too fast for humans to outrun. Almost as fast as a horse, though maneuvering around them on foot, is workable.
The muscles of the hellspawns seemingly almost incapable of turning. Their highspeeds ending up as a form of vulnerability and strength. Causing havoc in the battle field as hundreds if not thousands of Hellspawns slammed headfirst against walls or at each other resulting in explosions involving blood like lava splattering everywhere, the creatures exploding upon high impact as if they're living missiles expected to explode. Setting the majority of the city into flames.
The rabid and highly aggressive creatures, scattered everywhere, their sheer number easily told Levi that these creature were the main culprit of the capital's fall. And even he couldn't think of a solution to deal with the things. Without enough preparation at least.
Thankfully large caliber rounds including piercing ones were enough to have Hellspawns combust, which was probably the only reason why the military had yet to fall even without the [Yetis] and [Swamp Trolls] at the scene.

.
Continuing with the other monster, The [Skeletal Swamp Trolls] on the other hand were unlike neither of the two. They were fewer in number. Very few. But Large. Their smallest even larger than the largest of the Yetis. But thankfully, even slower.
Similarly humanoid, the [Skeletal Swamp Trolls] looked as if they're metaphysical beings. Creatures made of wet wood and earth acting as their frame, on top of them were highly moist moss. Making them look like giant trees dripping water infinitely pouring and creating puddles of murky water at their wake.
They don't bleed and are hard to burn off, their size, titanic their very mass invalidating all but the largest of ammunitions. As far as the intel [EVA] was able to gather, only explosives that focuses on impact like anti-tank grenades were by far the most effective against them. Though Levi was pretty sure that his soulbound [Twin Chained Sickles] would easily cleave through the large bark man as well as the other two apocalypse beasts…
Once again, the rain of ammunition brought by the war the only thing hindering Levi from going melee against the monsters. Levi gritting his teeth. Saving the heavy bag he's carrying just so he could stick around as long as possible.
Even until now, he could see more monsters coming towards the capital. Making it clear that any of the three monster archetypes could have easily conquered a city of their own yet for some reason they all choose to fight over the capital.
And so far, there were always only one monster archetype attacking each city. The capital being one of the largest could have possibly got three different types. Though that in itself bothered Levi.
Amidst the chaos, the discovery and now the grief. There was always the apocalypse. Always… The damned unknown…
Other than blasting everything into bits. He wanted to go and find out why. He had always wanted to.
But he knew it was stupid.
What can he even do alone?
What can he…
