Anna blinked rapidly, her lashes fluttering in confusion as she tried to make sense of William's cryptic words. He spoke to her in riddles, and her intoxicated mind was starting to protest, the frustration bubbling up inside her as she clenched her fists in an effort to suppress it.
Was this all just a game to him?
William's gaze remained locked on her, mysterious and unreadable. He stayed silent, as though testing her, gauging what she would do if he continued to toy with her emotions. But that thrill he seemed to relish vanished almost instantly when a flicker of disappointment flashed in Anna's eyes.
"Let's just say I have a personal score to settle with your ex-husband," William said at last, the words almost slipping out on a breath. "Maybe one day, you'll understand what it is."
