Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Tobias… was kind of lost. Those who had dragged him there decided the best thing to do was to leave him behind, and when they did see him, they laughed at him and left again. He eventually sat down and sighed. He didn't look like he should be at a circus, His suit crisp and clean-cut, like his father expected of him. He gained many looks, which was normal. He wasn't white enough, he wasn't black enough. To most, he was a mixed bastard, someone that shouldn't exist. He sighed and pulled out his pack of smokes. Right as he lit one and took his first puff, someone tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to find an older lady. She had dark skin, long light brown hair that was curly and went to her back, light brown eyes, and a bright hot pink and baby pink outfit. It was obvious she was one of the circus workers, her painted face showing that.

"Excuse me Sir, but this is a family-friendly area, please don't smoke here." The woman said, smiling. She seemed to be around forty, maybe late thirties. He quickly put his cigarret out.

"Pardon me, Ma'am, Didn't mean any harm" Tobias quickly said, the woman seemed nice, but his stepmother once did too, so he didn't wish to take any chances. The woman just laughed.

"Young man I know you didn't, please relax. Are you enjoying yourself?" She asked Tobias. Tobias didn't know how to answer, he definitely wasn't enjoying himself, but this nice lady was right here, and he didn't want to upset her.

"I... sure am Miss" He said, trying to put on a smile to look tough… but for a wimpy guy like himself, he just looked like a little kid. The woman awed to herself and smiled.

"Well, a young boy like you should be going around, go on!" She was able to push Tobias up off the bench, which shocked him. He looked back at the lady.

"What do you do here?" He asked, not thinking. The moment he said it, he was already planning his funeral, but the Lady looked delighted!

"Oh dear! I'm the tightrope walker! You should come to see my act- OH! Speaking of that! I should get going! I should get going! Behave, young man!" And with that, that little older lady ran off before Tobias could even think. He stood there for a bit, looking a little stupid, before just nodding. He might as well find her tent and see her show, the lady was oh so very nice. The main problem was that… he didn't know where to find it… He had to find it quickly if he wanted to catch it, so he started rushing through the crowds until he bumped into yet another circus worker. It was a young woman, looking to be his age. She had long ginger hair, which was held in a high ponytail, and a blue and purple outfit, with her lace-up shoes and her frilly dress, she could pass for a ballet dancer, and she looked lovely enough to him to be one. Her blue eyes immediately locked onto his, and she looked pissed, a scowl on her face, scrunching up her pale skin.

"Watch where you're going, you-"

"Betty!! Come on, we have work to do!" Another worker called to her. She looked over there, looked back at Tobias, and just rolled her eyes before walking off.

"I'm coming Dammit!" She yelled at them, her puffy skirt bouncing with each stormed step. Tobias stood there, almost in awe. That… that was the most beautiful woman he'd ever laid eyes on- He shook his head, he had to focus, that little old lady wanted him to see her act! Luck must have been taking pity on him, for he then heard a yell.

"COME ONE COME ALL, SEE MS. MARGARET! THE LOVELY TIGHTROPE ACT!" A man yelled, looking shockingly like the younger lady "Betty". So, Margaret was her name. He entered the tent and sat down in a more deserted part of the stand. He only had to wait a bit, before gasps and yells were heard, all he had to do was look up to see Margaret, around 20 feet up in the air on a very thin rope. He got scared, what if she fell? So for around 40 minutes, he watched her cross on the thin rope, and safely get to the other side. The crowd cheered for her, Tobias included. As people filed out, quickly now bored, he looked around, hoping to see the woman. He wanted her to know he did see the show, and to say he liked it. So, even though he most likely wasn't supposed to, he walked more into the tent, looking for her. As he approached a tent, he heard voices and decided to listen in.
