Chapter 138 - The Hell Slaughter Arena

After descending for a short while, Chen Yuan felt solid ground beneath his feet again. His gaze swept across his surroundings, revealing a narrow passage that led forward, enveloped in darkness on all sides.

Having mentally prepared himself, Chen Yuan showed no signs of panic. He lifted his foot and stepped forward, walking steadily along the passage. The path seemed endless, but Chen Yuan was in no hurry, taking one step at a time. Suddenly, a mist began to rise ahead, and within that mist, illusions began to appear one after another.

Chen Yuan's eyes narrowed. With his unique vision, he could see through all illusions, and the mirages dissipated into the mist as quickly as they had appeared. His footsteps never faltered, and as the mist gradually cleared, he finally reached the end of the path. However, blocking his way was a group of knights clad in black armor, wielding long spears and mounted on towering warhorses.

The leader of the knights, upon seeing Chen Yuan, spoke in a muffled voice from behind his visor:

"Show your invitation, and you may pass."

Chen Yuan had forced his way in and had no invitation. He replied bluntly:

"I don't have one."

The knight was momentarily stunned but quickly regained his composure. He raised his spear, his aura intensifying, and his voice grew colder:

"I am Scott, the Terror Knight. Since you've broken the rules, you must bear the consequences. Defeat me, and you may pass. Lose to me, and you'll remain here forever."

Chen Yuan had anticipated this. The enforcers under the Slaughter King were granted the ability to use soul skills, something ordinary soul masters couldn't do within the Slaughter City. For most, facing these enforcers without soul skills would be a death sentence.

But Chen Yuan was no ordinary soul master. He reached forward, and in a flash of white light, the Seven Kill Sword appeared in his hand. The soul rings that should have accompanied it seemed to be suppressed within his body.

This was the peculiarity of the Slaughter City. Under the influence of its domain, only martial souls and soul power could be used, with the exception of soul bone skills, which remained unrestricted. However, soul bones were exceedingly rare, possessed by only one in ten thousand soul masters.

In the original storyline, Tang San had mentioned that he could still use his Purple Demon Eye. Similarly, Chen Yuan tested his abilities and found that his Mirror Dimension skill worked without issue.

Returning to the present, Chen Yuan faced the Terror Knight head-on. He swung his sword, releasing two intersecting beams of sword energy. Even without soul skills, he could still wield the innate abilities of the Seven Kill Sword. Its sword energy was a natural talent, something even soul masters of the same level would struggle to defend against.

Scott, the Terror Knight, was momentarily stunned. In the Slaughter City, even Title Douluos couldn't use soul skills. How was this man releasing sword energy? But before he could process it, the sharpness of the energy sent a chill down his spine. He had no intention of blocking it directly. Instead, he leaped into the air, narrowly avoiding the attack.

The two beams of sword energy struck his massive warhorse, slicing it into pieces. Blood and entrails splattered across the ground.

Scott looked at Chen Yuan with newfound respect. With such razor-sharp sword energy, this man could easily carve out a place for himself in the Slaughter City.

He had no reason to continue the fight. Stepping aside, he spoke in a low voice:

"Killing my warhorse is akin to killing me. You've passed my test. You may enter. The Slaughter City welcomes you."

Seeing the knight step aside, Chen Yuan retracted his martial soul and continued forward. At the end of the path, he emerged into a desolate wasteland. The only source of light was a moon hanging a few hundred meters above, clearly artificial, like a giant lightbulb.

Beneath the moon stood a massive, eerie castle—the Slaughter City.

Chen Yuan strode toward it. As he approached, a woman draped entirely in black gauze stepped forward. She handed him a token and spoke:

"Welcome to the Slaughter City, 9510. This is your identification token, representing your identity here. I am your guide. For the next 12 hours, you will be under the protection of the great Slaughter King. No one will attack you during this time. Additionally, you may ask me any questions. Once this period ends, you will be on your own."

Chen Yuan took the token and replied calmly:

"I already know what kind of place the Slaughter City is. I'm confident in facing any danger. The only thing I need from you is the location of the Hell Killing Ground."

The woman's eyes flickered with surprise. She had expected to explain the grandeur of the Slaughter City and its king, but it seemed Chen Yuan was already well-informed.

She said:

"It seems you're familiar with the Slaughter City and its king. Very well, follow me. The Slaughter City is divided into the inner and outer cities. The Hell Killing Ground, the most important structure here, is located at the heart of the inner city."

"I must warn you, newcomers usually spend a few days in the outer city to acclimate before venturing into the inner city. Only then do they enter the Hell Killing Ground. In the Hell Killing Ground, ten enter, but only one leaves. Are you sure you want to go there now?"

Chen Yuan nodded without hesitation:

"Just take me there. The rest is none of your concern."

The woman in black gauze didn't argue further. Her duty was to guide newcomers, but if they chose to rush to their deaths, it was no concern of hers.

Under her guidance, Chen Yuan entered the Slaughter City. First, they passed through the outer city. The streets were filled with emaciated, pale residents who looked as though they were on the brink of death. Their faces were lifeless, but upon seeing a newcomer, they became excited, cackling with glee and malice.

Next, they entered the inner city. Unlike the outer city, there were no guards at the gate separating the two. Anyone from the outer city could enter the inner city at any time.

The residents of the inner city were far healthier, their bodies robust and intimidating. However, the inner city was also far more depraved. Acts of violence, cruelty, and other unspeakable deeds were commonplace, a constant reminder of the city's lawless nature.

Chen Yuan remained indifferent, his emotions unshaken. The air of the Slaughter City was toxic, designed to amplify negative emotions and turn people into beasts. Without strong willpower and mental fortitude, one could easily be consumed by the environment, becoming just another lost soul among the depraved.

Soon, under the guidance of the woman in black, Chen Yuan arrived before a grand coliseum. This was the Hell Killing Ground, the heart of the Slaughter City.

Those who died in the Hell Killing Ground had their blood and souls absorbed as nourishment for the Hell Road.

To obtain the Slaughter Domain, one had to achieve a hundred consecutive victories in the Hell Killing Ground, accumulating enough killing intent. Only then could one challenge the Hell Road, where the killing intent would transform into the Slaughter Domain.
