Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

The screen flickered to life once more, gaining the attention of the participants, all eyes trained on it. [As the city was slowly waking up, Sunny finished his coffee and leaned back, enjoying his last moments of peace. He did not have a lot of regular customers, but there were some. They were probably going to start arriving soon, which meant that he would be busy for the next few hours.] "As nice as this, why exactly are we watching this? As much as I like seeing Master Sunless and don't get me wrong, someone at peace in the Dream realm is nice, but is this all we're going to do?" Effie was understandably confused she had voiced the thoughts of many in the room, the idea is simply watching a singular ascended life seemed invasive and uninteresting.

"I am inclined to agree with Saintess, Athena. While I am sure this viewing has a purpose, the reason why we must watch this Master Sunless specifically eludes me." Summer Knight was in agreement with Raised By Wolves along with Whispering Blade, to be summoned by a power strong enough to limit their aspects, alter some flaws, and bring people from the past who were part of nightmares and even the dead (Whispering Blade) to ensure optimal viewing just watching this master was odd. "It is too early to cast judgment, for whatever purpose we have been summoned here I am of the belief that this man you have dubbed Master Sunless is a prominent figure somehow." Daeron's words were hard to refute, all those in the room knew the dangers of underestimating or overlooking a potential ally or threat.

"What makes you so sure we have seen nothing of importance from this man, why do you believe he is important?" Moonveil questioned the Serpent King, she was skeptical of Master Sunless the man seemed ordinary as far as an ascended could be, so for what reason were they gathered here? "Call it a King's intuition, I have ruled Twilight for a long time and to me, the worst crime one could commit both in a position of authority and not in one is passing one by due to the fact they have no outward presence." Daeron answered Moonveil honestly, his answer seemingly satisfying the daughter of Ki Song, "Do you agree with his judgment sister, after all, you are all too familiar with leading dating back all to when you were a sleeper?" Morgan inquired about Nephis's thoughts on the matter, she knew her sister had an extensive record of leading others, her Fire Keepers being a prime example of that. Nephis stood silent for a moment before speaking in her customary even tone, "I do, the notion that simply because he is only a Master thus unworthy of attention is faulty any and all can be a threat or ally regardless of rank." Nephis wasn't one to discard or dismiss others due to their rank, to her all that mattered was whether they were useful, trustworthy and loyal or not.

[Before that, however… He glanced at his shadow, his gaze becoming distant for a moment. Then, a familiar voice whispered into his ear: [You have slain a Great Demon.] [Your shadow grows stronger.]. It was his own voice.] The silence in the room was palpable... at least it was until it was broken by the cackles of Not So Funny Anymore, who was now hunched over clutching his stomach in extreme joy Noctis Lord of the East in a similar position much to the disgust of Solvane. "Is something funny, Sir Jest?" Sky Tide wasn't sure what unsettled her more, the fact that according to the screen, somehow this man Master Sunless managed to slay a Great Demon while simultaneously drinking coffee in his store or the cackles of Sir Jest. When he finally gained enough air to speak, Not So Funny Anymore spoke between small laughs, "It's just that you all moments before were droning on and on about how pointless it was to watch a simple Master and the dangers of overlooking someone yet he according to the screen killed a Nightmare Creature even us Saints struggle with." The irony was not lost on the assembled audience, moments prior they were skeptical of Master Sunless, and now they had just been told he killed a Great Demon while somehow also sitting drinking coffee. "How exactly do we know if this is true, I mean what if that's his flaw maybe it gives him false illusions of grandeur after all if was his own voice." Roan wasn't typically distrusting of others, but the idea of a Master killing such a Creature was speculative. "I don't think so, why would we all be summoned here to be lied to it doesn't make sense from what we've seen these viewings have all been from Master Sunless' point of view, but just because he calls himself a Master doesn't mean he truly is one for all we know he could be a Saint." Cassie didn't believe that what they were shown was a lie, her argument had holes she knew that but her intuition as a seer even if her connection with fate was severed was still intact, and it was telling her that the man shown to them was much more important than let on.

"What makes you so certain, Song of the Fallen? Your words are contradictory, you claim you doubt we are being lied to but also think that the very man who calls himself a Master is truly a Saint forgive me, but I find your logic to be flawed." "Your connection with fate along with all oracles has been severed, surely you don't believe that your intuition as a seer alone would be conceiving enough." Silent Stalker added onto Revel's original statement the 2 Song sisters still skeptical of what they had been shown for good reason, no matter how strong an Ascended was an Ascended and a Great Demon was not something an Ascended could slay, at least not without help. "You misunderstand, I said the viewing would not lie to us, not that those inside the viewing would not lie to us." Cassie's voice was calm and smooth, her expression remaining steady in the face of scrutiny, "Is that not the same thing?" Howl, who was already annoyed at the prospect of being forced to sit here and watch a singular Master's life but now had to listen to what she believed to be absurd rambles, wasn't helping. "I think what she means is that while the viewing will show us the truth, that truth will only apply if those we see believe it, so this Master Sunless may call himself a Master but in reality he could be a Saint after all who says that one must be honest with themselves in their thoughts." Surprisingly enough, the voice of reason was a man who wasn't known for his sanity or trustworthiness, the Prince of Nothing himself. His words alleviated some of the tension in theory it did make sense after all it could have been his flaw, or he was simply unwell mentally many Awakened were even more as Ascended.

During all this Nephis turned to Kai ignoring the commotion from the other viewers, "What is your flaw saying Kai, is it lying?" How no one thought to simply ask the person whose flaw was that he could tell one someone was lying to him, she didn't know but alas hopefully he would have the answer. "I can't tell whatever brought us here restricted my flaw, like with Jet's so she doesn't worry about dying or Cassie so she can see I can't tell if anyone is lying anymore." Kai was shaking his head as he spoke, his dissatisfaction at not being able to give an answer evident. "Don't feel too bad, remember what we were told at the start our aspects would be disabled and flaws modified to ensure optimal viewing, apparently your flaw is included in the modification since it would directly impact the viewing." Nephis attempted to aid Kai relinquish his disappointment, her words having an effect as the disappointment on his face lessening. A few seats down, Jet was staring at a shell shocked Effie, unsure whether to console her or laugh, "Effie are you ok?"... She was met with no response, the Huntress still in stupor, as if her entire life had been turned upside down. "Ok then." Jet shifted her gaze back to the screen, though occasionally she glanced over at her fellow Saint.
