Chapter 590 - Chapter 591: Shattered Bonds

The night sky above Emerald City was suffocating, thick with clouds that blocked out the stars, as if the heavens themselves were mourning the chaos below. Jayden felt the weight of it pressing down on him, but there was no time for reflection. No time for regret.

Seraph's words rang in his mind like a haunting melody — "You're more than you realize." It wasn't just her cryptic warning that troubled him; it was the feeling that something far larger was unfolding, something that he was at the center of, though he didn't yet understand it.

His heart raced as he followed her through the city's darkened streets, each corner more foreboding than the last. The silence between them was deafening. Seraph, though, seemed unfazed. Her presence was unsettling, calm, like a predator biding her time, watching for the right moment to strike.

They reached an abandoned warehouse, tucked away in the farthest corner of the industrial district. Jayden felt a flicker of hesitation, but Seraph's steady hand on his arm pushed him forward.

"Inside," she commanded, her voice devoid of warmth.

Jayden stepped in, the scent of rust and decay filling his nostrils. Inside, the space was vast, hollow. He could hear the faint echo of his footsteps as he moved deeper into the shadows, where only the faintest slivers of moonlight pierced through the broken windows.

Seraph's eyes glinted in the darkness, reflecting the faintest traces of light as she spoke again. "You've been running, Jayden. But you can't outrun destiny. The time has come for you to choose your path."

Jayden stopped, turning to face her, his brow furrowed. "And what path is that? You're asking me to trust you, to follow your lead without even telling me who you really are. What do you want from me, Seraph?"

She stood tall, unmoving, and for a moment, the shadows around them seemed to stretch. "I want you to accept what you are. Accept the power that has been hidden within you for so long. The truth you've been running from, the truth buried by your father... It's all here. All of it, waiting for you."

Jayden's pulse quickened, the sensation of something stirring deep within him, but it wasn't fear. No, it was something else—something darker. "What is this? What truth?"

Her lips curled into a faint smile. "Your inheritance. Your legacy. The world isn't what it seems, Jayden. You've been blind to the real game being played, but now you have a choice: continue hiding, continue running... or stand and claim what's rightfully yours."

Jayden clenched his fists, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts. This wasn't just about survival anymore. This was about power. A power that had been kept from him, locked away in a vault of lies. He felt the weight of it, like an invisible force pushing him forward.

"You're telling me I have a choice," he said, his voice low, as if testing the waters. "But I already know what's at stake. If I refuse…"

Seraph's eyes flashed dangerously, and she stepped closer, her presence enveloping him. "Refuse, and you'll die just like your father. And anyone who crosses you will fall. No one is safe."

The cold, venomous truth in her words struck like a blow, and Jayden was forced to steady himself. He couldn't let this woman control him. But what was the alternative? To continue running, waiting for his enemies to close in and end him?

Before he could respond, Seraph reached into the folds of her cloak and pulled out a small, ornate box. It was silver, with intricate engravings along the edges. She opened it slowly, revealing a single item inside: a blood-red gemstone, glowing faintly with an otherworldly light.

Jayden's heart skipped a beat. It was the same gemstone he had seen in his father's office the night he died — the one that had always been kept locked away, out of reach. The symbol of a legacy he had never known about.

"What is this?" Jayden asked, his voice trembling with a mix of awe and disbelief.

Seraph held the gemstone up to the faint light. "This," she said softly, "is your birthright. This is the key to your true power."

Elsewhere...

Matilda sat at the edge of a lavishly set table, a glass of wine untouched in her hand as her thoughts spiraled out of control. She had once thought the world was black and white — her loyalty to the people she trusted was absolute, and she never once doubted the consequences of her actions.

But now, that certainty was gone, replaced with the haunting image of Jayden, bloodied and broken, and the realization that she had betrayed him for a cause she barely understood.

A soft knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. She stood quickly, wiping away the fleeting hint of tears from her eyes before opening it.

Standing there was Wendy, her expression as cold as ever. But today, there was something different in her eyes — a sharpness, a hidden warning.

"You've done it now, haven't you?" Wendy said, her voice devoid of pity. "You've crossed a line that can't be undone."

Matilda stiffened, her throat tightening. "What do you mean?"

Wendy stepped inside without waiting for an invitation, her gaze sweeping over the room. "Jayden. He's still alive, but not for long. The game is changing. And now, you're part of it. You're going to have to make a choice, Matilda. A choice that will define everything."
