Violet's Pov
Sometimes you think you've got a life all figured out. Love like crazy, planning everything, thinking about the future for the both of you but then it just knocks you down when you least expect it.
Life doesn't always play fair, not always at least for me. The one man I thought was my everything took away everything from me to the point that I don't have anyone or anything anymore.
What is love anyway? An emotion you feel for the opposite sex? Or the affection they give you?
For me? I don't know it anymore. My heart died a long time ago. The only emotion I know was anger I felt up until now. I wanted revenge. I wanted to let him know what it was like to be robbed of everything away from him.
I took the bottle of rum and brought it inside my room along with a pair of glass and rocks.
I poured the rum inside the glass and looked at a family photo of my family.
"I guess you were right, Mom, Dad," I said as I drank the poisonous liquid straight. I grimace. I'm still not used to the bitter taste of rum even though it was seven months ago when I started drinking. "I should have listened to you. Maybe, just maybe you're still alive today."
I was betrayed by the person who I thought was the man for me. He murdered my family, he arranged my death but miraculously survived. My friends left me when I needed them the most. I was all alone and suffering.
I wanted to avenge my family but he was nowhere to be found. It was as if he vanished without a trace. Well I guess that was explainable. He's an assassin. I learned his identity after I woke up from a one month coma.
But despite that, I still love him. Thinking about him made my heart ache again.
"Fu*k," I uttered and began drinking again.
The night went through as I kept on drinking. I find peace and solitude when I'm drinking. No maids, no annoying and nagging doctors. Just me and my broken heart.
Heh, who could have known that the fierce business minded woman at the top of the chain suddenly collapsed and broke.
….when you left I lost a part of me…it's still so hard to believe…
"Fu*k."
I almost emptied a bottle of rum when I decided to swim. The pool looked so inviting. So I took off my nighties and let myself in a pair of lacy underwear. Although my head was already spinning, I didn't care. All I wanted was to swim. It was kind of odd because I never swim when I'm drunk. But tonight, I felt like I wanted to have one.
Shrugging, I walked towards the pool. As soon as I stepped on the edge of the pool, suddenly, the spinning I felt earlier intensified and I was out of balance, falling into the pool head first.
It wasn't the deep part of the pool, but the shallow one since the tile was colored pink, it was the part of the pool where my niece would swim. I fell on the pool head first and felt the impact when it collided with the pool floor. I struggled to stand up, but I couldn't move my body to no avail. It's like everything was paralysed and I was holding my breath as I could but then, all my effort failed and I could see myself dying just by being drunk and drowning in a kid's pool.
I closed my eyes and I welcomed death. It is pathetic to die without me even having revenge at the man I loved….
I groan and open my eyes only to meet complete darkness.
Where am I? I remember I died.
"Yes, you did die, and finally you're awake. I have been waiting for you to wake up for eternity," says a voice coming somewhere from the darkness.
"Who are you? Show me yourself," I demand.
The voice chuckles.
"As you wish," she says and with a finger-snap, the darkness suddenly lit up by a few black candles floating around me, the one who owns the voice.
She wears a towering black crown. I'm not sure if it is made of a black diamond, but it scared the hell out of me since it was designed to be sharp and pointed. The iconic part of her head is not the crown but the two black horns pointing upwards, just like her crown. She wears a long black turtleneck satin-looking like clothes. Her all black eyes and black lipstick are paired with pointed teeth.
"A-are you, the devil?" I ask.
"Do I look like it?" She asks.
"Well, you got horn and-"
"I'm not him, I'm his elder daughter. You're talking about the powerful figure who's residing in Hell. I'm the Nyx of Darkness."
"O-Okay but, uhm am I dead? I remember I fell in the pool."
"Yes, you did, but I saved you before death took your soul for eternal rest," she says as she walks towards me. "I'm Vanak. And I am the one who claims you."
"Claim me?"
She nods and smiles, showing me her terrifying pointed teeth.
"I have been watching you when I felt your anger aside from your depression. I was amazed because you never thought of killing yourself just like everybody did. Your strong will was remarkable; that's why I chose you to be the leader of my monarch," she says, walking back to her throne.
I am confused. What is she talking about?
"I know you have a lot of questions, but I want you to hear me out first."
I nod at her and let her speak.
"My son, the demon lord, was murdered two years ago by a hero that also came from your world. Not only did he kill my son, he also annihilated his children and most of the demonkind, both hornless and with horns. My creatures that were constantly being killed and bullied were crying out for me. Some of them have already sided with the hero, and they work for him too. I knew another demon lord couldn't par with the hero, so I decided to create my champion. And that's you. You will be my Demon Lord and the Lord of dungeons."
"What if I refused?"
She smirks.
"Then you'll die without having your revenge. Didn't you swear to your family's grave that you'll avenge their death? How will you do that if you're dead and the one you wanted to get revenge on is still alive and having a great time? In fact he's about to marry the first princess soon, the goddess who disguises herself as a princess."
I look at her, confused.
"What do you mean? Keeran has been missing since our wedding after trying to kill me."
"He's not missing. He was teleported into the world I'm about to send you. The killing of your family and the attempt to kill you is just a ritual arranged by the wicked goddess to show her his loyalty and love and whom he was about to marry."
My hands started to shake as anger started to find its way into my chest. Love? Ritual? Show his loyalty?
"He's the current hero in that world and the strongest of all the hunters."
"No way…How can I even have my revenge if he's that strong?"
"That's why I reincarnated you back into your fourteen-year-old self to train," she explained.
"Train?"
"Yes. You'll be training in the Infinite Tower. My father owned it, and he imprisoned the monsters he captured before. I may not be par to a Goddess, but I knew after you train in that tower, you'll become stronger than her champion."
"Let me."
Vanak smiled at me, still creepy, though.
"You're not asking anything? I mean, this was all new to you and-"
"I used to read light novels and play games like this with my younger brother when he was still alive. I pretty much have an idea about this."
"That's good. But first things first. I would like to eliminate the emotion in your heart that will make you weak."
"Emotions?" I ask.
"Yes, the emotions we call Love and Kindness. Seeing you still has that emotion for your ex-fiance, he's going to use it again-"
"Eliminate it! I don't want any lingering feelings for him! All I wanted for him was to die, along with the Goddess!"
"Alright," Vanak replies. "Are you ready?"
I nod.
"Show me your chest."
I puff my chest and watch her as she buries her hand inside.
I almost screamed, but thinking about my revenge, I bit my lips to prevent the scream.
It only took a few seconds before Vanak withdrew her hand.
"Now, you can go. A system will activate when you step in the Infinite tower. Remember, the system is absolute. Follow it, and you'll be stronger. And just in case, bring this little one," she says and gave me a little green-like winged-creature that is close to a fairy. "Her name is Chashmira. She can resurrect you anytime, but remember. 1000 resurrections is the limit. Once all those chances are used, you'll never resurrect again, and it's game over."
"Okay. I'll keep that in my mind."
"Good. Good luck Violet. I'll wish you success."
