Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 - The Hunt

The sound of fingers tapping against the table echoed in the air like a haunted sound. The mere sound of it made the employee's soul tremble in fear. Nicholas tapped his fingers against the table while looking deadly at the employees.

Sweat slid down their foreheads as they kept their eyes glued to the projector screen, like their lives depended on it. They didn't dare to even glance at Nicholas.

It had been an hour since they had been sitting in the meeting room. And the wrath of Nicholas made them think millions of times before uttering a word.

One of the employees was giving a presentation while trembling. He tried his best not to stutter, as Nicholas' gaze was making him scared and nervous.

The reason for Nicholas's wrath wasn't just the employees. The main reason was some annoying families in the underworld.

Apparently, some families want their daughters to be the next queen. They wanted their daughters to stand beside Nicholas.

They were greedy for power. And they thought that if their daughter became the queen of the underworld, they could obviously gain power and could control Nicholas.

Since, at present, Nicholas didn't have any fiancée or a lover, they took it as a golden opportunity. Last night, yet again, one of the families sent their daughter into Nicholas's bedroom.

Nicholas returned home after an exhausting day. He was frustrated that, even though Isabella was so close to him, he still couldn't go to her, touch her, have her in his arms.

Even though she was close, she was still far away. The need to have her in his arms was making him go insane. He wanted to drag her to him and shackle her with him. But he couldn't do that, as he knew if he did that, all the plans he had made would be ruined, and it would push his little moon away from him.

And he couldn't let it happen. He wanted to make her become his willingly. From her body to her soul. For that he needed to be patient. And he decided to be one and slowly approach her at the perfect time. He decided to give her a little time to be prepared for him.

But even with making this decision, still not being able to be near her was driving him to the edge. So, he was both agitated and frustrated.

When he saw a woman in his bedroom, he was furious. This kind of thing had happened before, and he let it slide by giving them a warning.

But this time, the moment she touched him, he didn't think twice before putting a bullet between her eyes. Nicholas hoped that that would make them stop for good. And next, he punished the incompetent guards for letting her into his house.

From that moment on, his mood had been sour. And since, unlike usual, he wasn't able to see his little moon in the morning, he was losing his mind. It had been his habit to see her before going to work.

He watched her every day from afar when she dropped the children off at kindergarten. It made him relieved and happy to see them. She was his sanity.

Since he didn't see her today, he came to the office in the worst temper. The employees weren't giving him a good result and were only wasting his time. And it was irritating him more.

When the staff was done with his presentation, he released a shaky breath before slowly turning toward Nicholas and waiting for his response.

The presentation was about their new project. And the presentation he gave just now was undoubtedly great. Among the others, only his presentation was good. It was good enough to catch his attention.

The employees waited for Nicholas to speak with fear. Nicholas stopped tapping his fingers, making them hold their breath. After a few beats of silence, Nicholas said coldly,

"We will go with this one. Dismiss."

Nicholas instantly stood up and strode out of the meeting room without giving them another glance, making everyone release their breath. Luca followed Nicholas without saying a word. He knew what the reason was behind his dark mood and what could be done to improve it.

Nicholas entered his cabin and sat at his desk. Luca stood in front of the desk, and Nicholas raised his eyebrows before asking, his tone sharp,

"Do you have something to tell me?"

Luca nodded, his expression serious before uttering seriously,

"Yes, I have something to inform you about."

"Go ahead."

"It's about Matthew."

The mention of Nicholas's uncle instantly made him alert but also agitated him. He didn't want to hear about him now. But the tone of Luca made him realize that it was something serious, or else he wouldn't have brought up that topic now.

Nicholas sat up alert and asked, his tone serious,

"What happened?"

"He is on the move," Luca stated.

Those words of Luca were enough to put Nicholas on full alert. Because his dear, fucking asshole uncle didn't make any kind of move for five years.

He hadn't been particularly doing anything for the past five years other than getting on Nicholas's nerves and sending assassins after him.

That was why his suddenly starting to move meant he was planning something serious. It didn't give Nicholas a good feeling. Matthew was up to something.

And it fucking had to start just when his little moon returned. But unlike before, he wasn't going to wait until he destroyed Matthew to have his little moon. He went through the result of it already. He wasn't going to repeat the same mistake.

"Did you receive any good information from Alessandro?" Nicholas asked, making Luca shake his head.

Alessandro was Nicholas, one of the trusted men after Luca, Lorenzo, and Max. And a month ago, he sent him to Matthew to keep an eye on him.

"No, he only said that Matthew was on the move. But other than that, he couldn't find out what he was up to." Luca said, disappointed.

Nicholas rubbed his hand over his jaw as he pondered it. He wondered what made him move suddenly. There was no doubt that whatever Matthew was up to was no good. He needed to stop him.

He thought it was time to get back to work. The work was to end his uncle. He let him go for too long.

For the past five years, he didn't care much about his uncle, as all his attention was on finding his little moon.

Since he had found his little moon, he should get back to work on putting an end to Matthew. To protect Isabella and his children, he had to end Matthew for good. And he would. He would destroy Matthew this time, for sure.

"Tell Alessandro to be on alert and find out what Matthew is planning. I want to know straightaway if he even made a small move." Nicholas said sternly.

"Also, inform Lorenzo that we are resuming our plan. Plan to annihilate Matthew." Nicholas's eyes turned dark as he muttered those words.

A dangerous and dark grin spread onto Luca's lips, and he asked excitedly,

"Are we finally going to eradicate him?"

Nicholas nodded, making his grin widen.

"What a pleasant thing I heard today. I will tell Lorenzo, and we will start working right away." Luca said, smiling creepily.

Nicholas also smirked deviously at Luca. It also pleased him that he was finally going to end him. He wouldn't make any mistakes this time. He would succeed. He would eradicate Matthew completely. He would tear him apart.

"Oh, I have another thing to inform you of. It is about the queen," Luca muttered.

Nicholas understood right away that he was talking about Isabella. He gave all his attention to Luca and asked,

"What is it?"

Luca grinned mischievously before saying,

"First say you love me, then I will tell you."

In a second, Nicholas's eyes turned cold, and he said emotionlessly,

"Do you have a death wish?"

Luca gasped dramatically and said playfully,

"Of course not. Now say those three magical words, baby."

Nicholas cringed at his words and looked at him disgustedly before standing up while saying,

"Let me just kill you today."

Luca laughed like a madman at Nicholas' reaction and muttered between his laughter when he saw Nicholas stepping toward him.

"Okay, okay, I'm telling you. Calm down and relax."

Nicholas shook his head with a small smile at Luca's playfulness. Nicholas waited for him to start talking. And when Luca finally stopped laughing, he cleared his throat and whispered,

"Russo Group is looking for an investor for their new project, named Phoenix. And not just any investor. Someone who has power in Italy."

As Luca finished, Nicholas saw a perfect chance to approach her. It was like a golden opportunity for him. He had planned everything and was just waiting for an opportunity to approach her. A way that wouldn't alert her. And here it came.

"Inform them I want to invest in the project," Nicholas said calmly.

"I already guessed that you would say that. It's a perfect opportunity to lure her into your wave. I was just waiting for you to say it. Then I will do as you said," Luca said with a smile.

Nicholas smiled at how well he knew him. And it was a good thing for him, but sometimes it annoyed him.

"Then I will take my leave and carry out your orders. And please finish the files instead of daydreaming about your girl." Luca said, pointing at the pile of files on the desk.

Nicholas just hummed, and he exited the cabin. Right after Luca left, he did the exact thing he told him not to do. He daydreamed about his little moon.

He couldn't wait to meet her. His earlier frustration vanished. It wouldn't be long until his little moon was in his arms. He had waited for far too long. He had been patient for enough time.

He thought it was time to go to her. He had stayed away from her for a sufficient amount of time. He had given her enough time. Now if he stayed away from his little moon a little more, he would go berserk.

Now, it was time to have his little moon. Time to bring her back to where she belonged. To her rightful place. In his arms.

He would begin the hunt. It was time to hunt his prey. It was time to hunt his little moon
