Chapter 143 - Chapter 142: Akihiro Kanou

In the original story, Akihiro Kanou was undoubtedly a pure villain.

For example, he transformed Kaneki Ken, Yasuhisa Kurona, and Yasuhisa Nashiro into artificial half-ghouls and even conducted inhumane experiments and torture on Takizawa Seidou.

He was a character who had no need for redemption; even he himself admitted to being a villain, which is why, in the end, he directly shot himself in front of his mother's tombstone.

At the same time, he was also a highly ambitious villain.

The death of his mother due to an incurable disease had a significant impact on Akihiro Kanou. It completely changed his life, as he believed that the disease should have been curable.

As the son of the director of "Kanou General Hospital" and a medical genius who graduated from Teito University's Faculty of Medicine, Akihiro Kanou had already developed a certain understanding of ghouls and RC cells at a very early stage.

He believed that the RC cells within ghouls could be utilized in medical science, yet for some reason, the medical community showed almost no interest in this concept.

Looking back, it was clear that this was due to the Washuu Clan's interference.

After his mother's death, Akihiro Kanou secretly began researching ghouls. Later, after studying abroad in Germany, he returned and joined CCG.

However, after learning certain "things he shouldn't have known" within the CCG, he chose to leave and conduct artificial half-ghoul experiments in secret.

These "things he shouldn't have known" likely referred to certain secrets of the Washuu Clan.

It could be said that Akihiro Kanou was one of the key figures driving the events forward.

His personality was one of relentless pursuit; he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

To advance medical science, he personally created countless tragedies. In the end, he succeeded, and with no regrets, he took his own life.

Akihiro Kanou never regretted any of his actions.

"Proceed as planned. Let Akihiro Kanou and Ogura Hisashi become researchers for the CCG."

Uchiha Byakuya said to the Special-Class Investigators before him.

At this point in time, Akihiro Kanou had only secretly researched ghouls and had yet to conduct artificial half-ghoul transformation experiments.

Byakuya absolutely did not support the inhumane artificial half-ghoul experiments, especially considering that in the original story, the only true success was Kaneki Ken.

Aside from Kaneki Ken, there were countless tragic and defective creations.

Even in the later stages of the original story, the true breakthrough in medical science came from the "dragon cells" and "dragon toxin" that emerged after Kaneki Ken's "Dragonization," which had little to do with the artificial half-ghoul experiments.

Akihiro Kanou's greatest achievement was, by accident, creating the future "One-Eyed King," Kaneki Ken, and contributing to the research on special food that ghouls could consume.

But was it possible that "Dragonization" didn't necessarily require torturing Kaneki Ken to achieve? After all, in the underground 24th Ward, there was already an existing "Dragon";

The first One-Eyed King of the Washuu Clan.

Although the first One-Eyed King was already dead, the remnants of the "Dragon" body might still be usable. However, the Washuu Clan had long buried it deep underground, unwilling for it to be exposed to the world, which is why it was known as the "Washuu Taboo."

"Alright, but the funding for this research originally came from the Washuu Clan in collaboration with the political sector. Now that the Washuu Clan is..."

Marude Itsuki brought up this concern.

"No need to worry about that. I will take care of the funding."

Byakuya replied.

On his side, Byakuya still had Furuta Nimura and Kamishiro Rize, one was the biological son of Washuu Tsuneyoshi, and the other had the purest Washuu bloodline.

With a bit of "repackaging," Furuta and Rize could take control of the Washuu Clan.

This way, it would still be the legitimate Washuu lineage; just with a reshuffled leadership.

Rize aside, based on his behavior in the original story, Furuta would definitely be more than willing to take on the Washuu name.

In the original, Furuta was shrewd, ruthless, and unscrupulous, but his ambitions were actually quite simple.

As for the high-ranking members of the Washuu Clan, Byakuya planned to keep some of them alive to assist Furuta.

To put it bluntly; those who didn't obey would be slaughtered, while those who were obedient could be considered for survival.

The goal was to overthrow the Washuu Clan, not to exterminate every single member.

Otherwise, Furuta, Rize, Washuu Matsuri, as well as Arima, Ihei, and all the other Washuu branch members would all have to be killed as well, which would be completely unnecessary.

With the CCG more or less stabilized, Byakuya left the remaining trivial matters to the Special-Class Investigators.

His next plan was to visit the 6th Ward to check on Furuta and Rize.

Arima, on the other hand, was tasked with tracking down the escaped members of the Washuu Clan.

From the moment Byakuya entrusted Furuta and Rize to Kamishiro Matasaka, less than half a day had passed.

"Byakuya-nii! You're not hurt, are you?"

Seeing Byakuya return, Furuta immediately expressed concern.

Kamishiro Matasaka was meditating nearby. He was somewhat surprised to see Byakuya return so soon.

Moreover, Byakuya showed no signs of having been in a battle. Had he found the Washuu Clan too difficult to deal with and simply given up halfway?

"No..."

Byakuya briefly recounted the events that had taken place at CCG today.

Midway through his explanation, Furuta asked with some interest, "What about Washuu Tsuneyoshi? Did he escape as well?"

"Yeah, he escaped too."

Byakuya nodded slightly.

Washuu Tsuneyoshi was, after all, Furuta's biological father.

Due to the Washuu Clan's traditions and system, Furuta could not acknowledge Tsuneyoshi as his father in public.

However, Washuu Tsuneyoshi had always favored Furuta, his illegitimate son, often privately accompanying him to read.

At this point in time, Furuta still cared about his biological father, Washuu Tsuneyoshi.

As for his half-brother, Washuu Yoshitoki, Furuta had hardly interacted with him, so he didn't care much.

"Oh... I see..."

Furuta was somewhat relieved.

Deep down, he didn't want his father to be killed by Byakuya-nii.

But he was also rational enough not to make such a childish request of Byakuya-nii.

"V has been completely wiped out, so you two aren't in danger anymore."

Byakuya continued, "But just to be safe, you should stay here for now. By the way, have you been able to adapt to living here?"

"We're fine. Matasaka-ojisan treats us very well."

Furuta replied.

Rize also nodded in agreement.

Since she had no surname, Kamishiro Matasaka had given her the name "Kamishiro Rize," formally recognizing her as his daughter.

In human society, this gave her a proper legal identity.

"That's good, then."

Byakuya said.

After bidding farewell to Furuta and Rize, it was time for him to contact the media and expose the truth about the Washuu Clan to the public.

Once that was done, the Washuu Clan's rule would be completely dismantled.
