Chapter 38 - Ch 38 : Weaponized Infected Team

The Dungeon Exploration Task Force, led by Lieutenant Sato, found themselves surrounded in the claustrophobic confines of a dungeon beneath the capital. The walls, slick with moisture, closed in on them as the air grew heavy with the scent of blood and decay. The oppressive atmosphere weighed on them all, their senses heightened in the face of the unseen dangers lurking in the shadows.

The Task Force had entered the dungeon with high hopes of locating rare resources and clearing a section of it for further exploration. Instead, they had been ambushed by a pack of wolf monsters—ferocious, predatory creatures with glowing eyes and claws like razors. The task force was not unprepared, but even their seasoned veterans couldn't withstand the onslaught of the monsters' coordinated attacks.

Lieutenant Sato, his uniform smeared with blood and sweat, barked orders to his team, trying to organize a defensive perimeter. The soldiers moved with precision, firing their weapons into the oncoming wave of wolves, their bullets tearing through the air, but the creatures were fast—too fast. Every attempt to slow them down only seemed to enrage them further. The wolves were agile, darting between the Task Force members with speed that should have been impossible for creatures of their size. They were relentless, and as more wolves emerged from the shadows, it became clear that the situation was spiraling out of control.

"Keep firing! Don't let them get close!" Lieutenant Sato shouted, his voice grim, but there was an unmistakable edge of panic creeping into his words.

One of his soldiers, Private Tanaka, was dragged to the ground by a wolf that lunged from the darkness. A scream echoed through the cavernous space, and the sound of bones cracking followed. The rest of the Task Force's attention snapped to the scene, but there was little they could do. The wolves were closing in from all sides.

Sato's mind raced as he analyzed the situation. They were severely outnumbered, and their ammunition was running low. The walls of the dungeon were too tight for an effective retreat. They couldn't hold out much longer.

"Dammit, we need backup!" Sato shouted, his voice barely audible over the growls and snarls of the monsters. His soldiers fought valiantly, but it was becoming apparent that they wouldn't last much longer.

One of the senior officers, Captain Fujimoto, stepped forward, her face grim and determined. "Lieutenant, we need to call in the Infected Response Unit. There's no other choice."

Sato hesitated, his eyes flicking to the wolves encroaching on their position. Calling in the weaponized infected, known for their brutal mutations and unstable mental states, was a last resort. They had only been deployed in the most dire situations, when all other options had been exhausted. But with their lives on the line, Sato knew they had no other option.

"Do it. Get them here now," Sato ordered, his voice tight with resolve.

Meanwhile, in another part of the capital, the sound of heavy boots echoed through the cold corridors of the military base. The weaponized infected assault team, led by Genghis Asura, was ready for deployment. These were no ordinary soldiers. They were infected individuals who had been experimented on, their bodies altered to grant them inhuman strength, speed, and durability. They had been stripped of their humanity, turned into living weapons with no other purpose than to carry out the will of those who controlled them.

Genghis Asura, a tall and imposing figure, stood at the forefront of the assault team. His appearance was far from human—his face was a grotesque mask of sharp features, his eyes glowing with a predatory hunger. His hands were clawed, and his body rippled with unnatural muscle, the result of the mutation that had enhanced him. Beside him stood the other members of his team: Miko, a woman with shadowy tendrils for arms; Hiro, whose body was lined with jagged bone protrusions that acted as both armor and weapons; and Jiro, who had gained the ability to summon fire from his hands.

Genghis' expression was unreadable, but there was a cold efficiency in his movements. The team had been given orders to assist the Task Force, and that was all that mattered. They were not soldiers; they were weapons. And their mission was clear.

"Move out," Genghis barked, his voice low and commanding. The team moved in sync, their steps echoing through the sterile hallways as they made their way to the transport bay.

As the team boarded the transport, the cold steel doors slid shut, sealing them in. The engine roared to life, and the vehicle shot into the air, heading toward the coordinates provided by Lieutenant Sato.

Inside the dungeon, the situation had escalated. The Task Force was on the brink of collapse. One soldier after another fell, their screams muffled by the growls of the wolf monsters. The sound of gunfire was constant, but it was becoming apparent that the wolves were adapting, avoiding the soldiers' shots and retaliating with terrifying precision.

Lieutenant Sato gritted his teeth, his fingers bloodied from firing his weapon. He could hear the rasping breaths of his soldiers, the sickening sound of flesh being torn, and the ever-present growl of the wolves. Desperation began to seep into his mind, and his eyes flicked to the horizon of the cavern. There had to be a way out, but the wolves were too fast, too many.

"Hold the line!" he ordered, his voice cracking with exhaustion. "Just a little longer… backup is on the way."

But even as he said the words, he knew they couldn't hold out for long. The Task Force was running out of time.

Outside, the transport carrying the weaponized infected closed in on the dungeon entrance. The vehicle landed with a heavy thud, and Genghis Asura was the first to disembark. His claws scraped against the stone floor as he surveyed the scene. His eyes narrowed, and a predatory grin spread across his face.

"Well then, let's put an end to this," he muttered.

Without another word, he charged into the dungeon, his assault team following closely behind. Miko stretched her shadowy tendrils, Hiro let out a guttural roar as his jagged bone armor shimmered in the dim light, and Jiro summoned flames to scorch the air around them. Together, they were an unstoppable force of nature.

The moment they entered the fray, the wolves took notice. Their growls grew louder, but they were no match for the mutated team. Genghis' speed was unmatched as he tore through the pack, his claws slashing through flesh with ease. Miko's shadow tendrils lashed out, wrapping around the wolves, crushing them with an unrelenting grip. Hiro moved through the battlefield like a juggernaut, his bone spikes impaling anything that got too close. Jiro's flames lit up the cavern, burning everything in their path.

The Task Force soldiers, stunned by the sudden turn of events, watched in awe as the weaponized infected tore through the wolves with ruthless efficiency. Lieutenant Sato, his heart pounding, watched as the mutated soldiers carved a path toward him. They were here. They were finally here.

But as the last of the wolf monsters fell, Lieutenant Sato couldn't shake the feeling that this moment was only the beginning of something much darker. The weaponized infected had saved them today, but at what cost? The thought lingered in his mind as the team regrouped, the sound of their heavy breathing filling the cavernous space.

Genghis Asura stood over the slain wolves, his expression still cold. "We're not done yet," he said, his voice low and menacing.

Sato nodded, his jaw clenched. "No. This is only the beginning."
