The beam of this laser was incredibly bright, almost like looking directly at the sun.
It was a special ninja technique, a combination of "Water" and "Lightning" chakra.
Because all the energy was squeezed into such a small space, it got incredibly hot.
And because it was Storm Release, it could cut and melt almost anything.
How fast it cut depended on what it was cutting.
For example, it could instantly burn through and slice human fat.
But a stone wall might only get a little scorched.
As the laser got stronger, it would eventually be able to easily cut through stone, steel, and other tough materials.
"But using that much chakra would take a huge amount of energy," Ryo thought.
He remembered the different ways Storm Release was used in the stories he knew.
Regular Storm Release was nothing compared to Uchiha Madara's Six Paths: Storm Release Sage Art.
Madara's version could even slice through Truth-Seeking Balls in a flash.
That showed just how powerful Storm Release could become.
No matter what, the Storm Release Kekkei Genkai was super dangerous. It shot out a beam at the speed of light (300,000 kilometers per second) and could cut through almost anything.
The only question was how strong it would be - would it just singe the skin or slice someone in half?
He needed to test it more to figure out exactly how strong it was and learn how to control it.
Of course, Storm Release wasn't perfect. It had weaknesses.
For example, the laser got weaker the farther it traveled.
After a few meters, it barely did any damage.
So, against strong enemies with tough bodies, it wouldn't be very effective.
"I can either make it more powerful or use it up close," he mused.
He considered his options carefully.
If he suddenly blasted someone with a Storm Release laser at close range, who could dodge it?
"But this move puts a lot of strain on my body," he realized.
Sarutobi Ryo looked at his hand.
His arm felt a bit sore on the inside.
Because he didn't have the Byakugan or Sharingan, Sarutobi Ryo knew it was because his "Meridians" were overloaded.
Medical ninjutsu could fix muscles, skin, and even bones.
But it couldn't fix Meridians.
If the Meridians that carried chakra were damaged, they couldn't carry chakra anymore.
"I can't use this move too much; it has to be a last resort," he concluded.
He lowered his hand, deciding to rest for a bit.
He planned to check on Nohara Rin. Switching places with a Shadow Clone was easy.
----
Sarutobi Ryo went to find Nohara Rin.
At the entrance to Konoha, a few travelers were arriving.
The leader looked about the same age as Nohara Rin.
But she had a determined look on her face.
She had two people following her, and they all seemed like they knew their way around.
"So, this is Konoha."
Guren looked around at the busy streets.
It was her first time in Konoha.
After training and managing the Transportation Company, she had changed.
She had become more confident, like a businesswoman.
She was good at leading the samurai, ronin, and regular people who worked for her.
This time, she came to Konoha not just to see the place, but also to give Sarutobi Ryo money and talk about future plans.
Guren was getting ready to expand the Transportation Company to the Land of Waves, just like Sarutobi Ryo had suggested.
"Let's go."
She waved her hand and walked into the crowd.
----
In the alley next to the restaurant, the Shadow Clone and Sarutobi Ryo stood facing each other.
When the Shadow Clone disappeared, all the information it had gathered rushed into Ryo's mind.
"Hmm?"
Sarutobi Ryo looked surprised when he learned that a new Weapon of the Will of Fire had appeared.
Hyuga Natsu was still young, about the same age as Nohara Rin.
"What does the system mean by this?" he wondered.
"Even if I wanted to teach her the Will of Fire, I'd have to wait a few years."
"Wait, there's more than one way to do it," he realized.
He thought of Hyuga Ruri and Nonou.
Winning people over could also help, even a lot.
Hyuga Ruri's sad story was something Sarutobi Ryo wanted to change.
After being teammates for so long, they were like family.
The real Will of Fire was about protecting the people and things you cared about.
"If I get the chance, I'll try to talk to her … maybe Hyuga Natsu is a good place to start," he thought.
He turned and walked back into the restaurant.
----
After lunch, Sarutobi Ryo offered to walk Nohara Rin home.
The offer reminded Nohara Rin of that night, only this time, it was daytime.
It had been a while since she had seen Kakashi, and his voice and face were starting to fade from her memory.
Nohara Rin knew this was because that's how memories worked.
When people were apart for a while, they started to feel like strangers.
When they got back together, they would feel like themselves again.
"That's how it is … right?" she thought.
Nohara Rin looked up at Sarutobi Ryo.
His strong, handsome face looked mature.
Kakashi didn't have that.
Actually, Kakashi was no longer the same as in the stories. Kakashi's life would be completely different.
Hatake Sakumo hadn't died.
Kakashi hadn't suffered a terrible loss.
He was still the proud, confident young man.
In the original story, Kakashi had already become cold and focused only on the mission, not his teammates. That's how he got the reputation: "Don't team up with Hatake Kakashi; he's heartless."
Maybe Nohara Rin would have liked a more mature, skilled Kakashi.
But that Kakashi didn't exist anymore.
Kakashi, who hadn't faced hardship, was still a bit immature.
That made the distance between them grow.
Sarutobi Ryo and Nohara Rin soon arrived at her house.
"Young Master Ryo, would you like to come in for tea before you go?" Nohara Rin asked, almost without thinking.
She had just had lunch, so she wasn't hungry or thirsty.
That meant she had another reason for inviting him.
The girl was in love.
Nohara Rin's eyes showed she might not even know it herself.
Sarutobi Ryo knew it was just the innocent feelings of youth, the stirrings of hormones. It wasn't true love yet.
But if it continued, it could become real.
"Okay," Sarutobi Ryo said with a smile, and he followed Nohara Rin inside.
"Big Sister, the Boss went inside."
"Hmm, let's wait," Guren said, sounding like she was in charge.
The three of them stood under a tree near the door.
