Kenji sat on the edge of his bed, the Resonance Stone gently glowing in his hand. There was something hypnotic about that blue glow, as if the energy inside the stone was breathing with its own rhythm, slow and deep. He stared at it for long seconds, contemplating his next move.
He was no longer the same boy from just a few days ago. Now he had three powerful Pokémon by his side: Charmander, his loyal and fierce first companion; Ursaring, a colossal beast that commanded respect with its mere presence; and his most recent acquisition, Squirtle, a Pokémon that, though small, had a bright future if trained well.
The system had warned him that the strongest mutations occurred the first time a Resonance Stone was used. Subsequent uses only provided minor enhancements. That's why using it strategically was crucial.
He thought about Squirtle. It would be interesting to boost it from the start. However, he had yet to reveal it to the world. It was a secret he planned to keep until it was strong enough to defend itself. So, in the end, he decided to use the stone on Ursaring. Everyone had already seen it in battle; there was nothing to hide there. If its power increased, it would only reinforce the image it already had.
Taking a deep breath, he stood up. He took Ursaring's Poké Ball and tossed it into the air. A red flash filled the room, and the giant Pokémon appeared with a deep roar that made the windows tremble. Ursaring stared at him, its eyes reflecting a mix of ferocity and loyalty.
Kenji raised his hand and showed the stone.
—This is for you.
Ursaring frowned. Its snout wrinkled, as if it smelled something familiar. The next second, it leaned toward the stone… and devoured it without hesitation.
The effect was immediate.
A brilliant blue light enveloped its body, illuminating the entire room with an almost blinding force. Kenji instinctively stepped back, covering his eyes. The air grew heavier, charged with energy. A warm, electric current coursed through the room, as if the transformation was altering even the environment itself.
Ursaring's figure glowed brightly. Kenji saw its silhouette vibrating, as if something inside it was evolving, expanding.
Ten seconds passed… then fifteen.
And then, suddenly, the light dissipated.
Ursaring stood in the middle of the room, breathing deeply. Its body didn't seem to have changed much… at least not in size. But upon closer inspection, Kenji noticed the new details: a soft, glowing circle of celestial energy in the center of its chest, like a vital core. Additionally, new dark tusk-shaped marks had appeared on its arms and legs, like natural tattoos emitting a faint vibration of contained power.
—You look... incredible —Kenji whispered, utterly impressed.
Ursaring let out a guttural roar, and for a moment, the ground seemed to tremble. Its presence was far more intimidating now. It not only felt stronger, but more... savage, more primal.
Kenji quickly opened the system, eager to check the changes.

He turned to Ursaring, who was watching him with an odd calm. It didn't seem disturbed. In fact, it seemed completely relaxed, as if this newfound energy had always been a part of it. It was like the colossus had awakened an ancient part of itself.
Kenji smiled. After so many dangers, so many discoveries, he felt ready for more.
And that was even though he still needed to check Charmander's stats...
After calming his initial excitement over Ursaring's evolution, Kenji sank back onto his bed, the system still open in front of him. The residual energy from the transformation still lingered in the air. It felt as though a storm had passed through the room, leaving behind an atmosphere heavy with power.
"With this, Ursaring is ready for any battle..." he whispered, though deep down he knew there was still much training to be done. It wasn't all about brute strength.
But before he could fully relax, his gaze shifted to another tab in the system.
"Let's see how much Charmander has changed since the last time..." he murmured, his curiosity piqued.
With a mental gesture, he opened the panel for his first companion. The system, now more developed, displayed a much more detailed interface than before, including new data that hadn't been available previously.

He needed to change that.
"Tomorrow, we'll head out early," he murmured as he stood up. "We'll hunt beasts, complete system missions, and strengthen our bond."
He walked over to the window. Night had fully fallen, and a starry sky stretched over the city. In the distance, the lights of the Academy shone brightly. Kenji looked at them with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.
That's where it would all begin.
That's where he would prove what he was capable of.
And even though there were still many mysteries to solve — like the true origin of the Resonance Stones or what other mutations might occur — he now had a clear goal:
To be the best.
Not just for himself... but for those he had left behind.
He looked back at his companions, now resting in their respective Pokéballs.
"Rest well, guys. Tomorrow will be a long day."
With one last glance at the system, he closed it and lay down. He let the exhaustion take over, knowing that when he woke up, training would await him.
And perhaps... something more.
