"Hey, Tendou, why do we always end up meeting these cocky, high-and-mighty types in cafes for business?"
Sprawled on the sofa in a women's suit, Himeno stretched lazily, her full chest straining against her white shirt.
"Uh, Senpai, it beats me," Tendou Michiko replied with a helpless sigh, also in a suit. She wasn't the joking type.
"Tch, you're no fun. No clue why the brass stuck me with you," Himeno muttered, eyeing her new subordinate.
Black ponytail, a scar slashing across her face, tall and quiet. If she weren't in this line of work, guys would probably flock to her.
Including the newly arrived Tendou Michiko, Himeno had trained over five rookies. The death rate in the Supernatural Affairs Division was brutal.
Fewer and fewer signed up. If it kept up, Himeno figured the higher-ups would run out of recruits.
"Can you two keep it down?" Utahime set her coffee down, frowning slightly. She hated noise when she was trying to relax.
"Ha, little Iori, Don't be so grumpy," Himeno teased with a smirk.
"I'm not grumpy!" Utahime shot back, annoyed.
Why did everyone call her grumpy? She looked plenty gentle.
"Femininity Isn't just about long hair, you know," Himeno said, crossing her shapely legs, half an eyepatch over one eye. "Guys usually go for the soft types."
"Shut it!" Utahime glared at the short-haired woman. She couldn't stand being told she lacked charm.
"Heh…"
Himeno was about to poke her again when steady footsteps interrupted her.
A handsome young man in a black jacket approached. Tall, with a playful smile, his vibe was a mix of sharp edges and hidden warmth.
Himeno caught several women sneaking glances as he walked over.
"Yuto-kun, this is Himeno from Section 1 of the Supernatural Affairs Division, and that's her assistant, Tendou Michiko," Utahime said as he sat down.
"Hey, Yuto-kun. I'm here to offer you the 'Special Envoy' gig," Himeno said, her eyes lighting up.
She had a thing for pretty boys. Single thanks to her job, sure, but this stunner had her heart racing.
"Miss Himeno, I can hear your heartbeat, you know….it's pretty fast," Yuto said with a grin, shaking her hand.
His fingers brushed her palm lightly, sending a shiver through her.
"Himeno senpai, you're too obvious," Tendou Michiko thought, keeping a straight face.
Who'd have guessed her laid-back mentor for a sucker for younger guys?
"Sorry, it's work hours," Utahime cut in, a twinge of irritation flaring as she watched Himeno flush. "Since someone's distracted, I'll explain. The 'Special Envoy' role was made just for you by the higher-ups."
"You'd get 1 billion yen a year, plus the power to investigate, detain, or… eliminate anyone you suspect or confirm is an evil supernatural entity or monster."
"Also, since you took out one special-grade and nearly offed another yesterday, the government's down to two sorcerers. They want you to step into Gojo Satoru's shoes and keep the public safe."
"Nah, I'm not here to be anyone's lackey," Yuto said, cutting her off without hesitation.
"I do what I want. No one gets to tell me what to do." His bluntness left the three women shifting awkwardly.
But given his track record, it wasn't exactly unreasonable. With his power, he was already a cut above the rest.
"I need to call the brass," Utahime said, stepping away to dial her superiors.
Himeno jumped in, more decisive. "Yuto-kun, join the Bureau, and you can name your terms."
She got it. A powerhouse like him wouldn't bow to rules. Better let him call the shots than haggle.
Soon, Utahime returned.
"Yuto-kun, they agreed–same terms, no forced work for the government. You're free to do whatever."
Hearing Yuto's refusal, the higher-ups panicked, telling Utahime to cave to his every demand. Another Geto Suguru incident was the last thing they needed.
"Cool with me," Yuto said with a nod.
Scoring 1 billion yen for nothing? He was happy with that. That's the perk of power outstripping authority—everyone else bends over backward for you.
"Man, that's badass!"
The three women couldn't hide their admiration as Yuto brushed off the government like it was nothing.
In a world crawling with curses and chaos, doing whatever you pleased without a care? That was the dream. They walked the edge of life and death daily, buried under pressure—hadn't they all fantasized about this?
"Yuto-kun, since you're a 'Special Envoy' now, we're kinda colleagues. Drop by sometime if you're free," Himeno said, her eyes glinting with interest.
Sure, it sucked he didn't join the Bureau outright, but she still wanted to get on his good side. It wasn't just his looks and vibe pulling her in. Befriending a top-tier fighter like him was a smart move.
Who knows? He might be her lifeline in a pinch.
After swapping LINE contacts with Michiko and Himeno, Yuto turned to Utahime Iori with a request.
