"Because I had no reason to kill them."
Kei replied.
"But aren't you on our side? They bullied us. Shouldn't you have killed them to help us?"
Tushan Honghong asked, clearly not understanding. In her simple, straightforward view, if there was a grudge, you should get revenge. Friends help each other.
"You're still just a child."
Kei reached out and ruffled Honghong's hair. She resisted a bit but didn't push his hand away.
"My goal at the time was just to save you two. Killing them or making a deal, making a deal was the simpler choice."
"So I chose the easier option. If you really hate them, then once you return to Tushan, work hard and cultivate."
"Become a powerful fox demon. Then you can seek your revenge yourself."
Honghong nodded, acknowledging Kei's words. She promised herself that once she returned to Tushan, she would work hard to cultivate.
However, she still didn't fully understand why Kei chose to act the way he did.
After a night of traveling and healing, the next morning they arrived at another city.
As soon as they entered the city, they were approached by a group of people.
"So you're the 'Divine Doctor,' huh? This territory is ours. If you want to practice medicine, go somewhere else."
An old man with white hair and beard, who looked like an immortal hermit, spoke up.
"Um, who might you be?"
Kei asked.
"This is the famous master of the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles!"
"King Yama demands your death at midnight, but he can keep you alive until dawn!"
"A Miracle Doctor – Li Shenyi!"
The old man didn't even have a chance to speak before the people surrounding him hurriedly introduced him.
"Oh, alright. I'll leave tonight."
Kei replied calmly and prepared to start his medical practice as usual.
"Hmph! You dare to challenge me? Very well, I'll show you who's in charge of this city!"
Li Shenyi took out a signboard and stuck close to Kei, walking alongside him.
"Half man, half immortal, the Medicine Immortal descends!"
"The Miracle Doctor with miraculous needles, saving countless lives!"
Qian Wan glanced at Li Shenyi's followers and felt like they were trying to outdo him with loud advertising.
"Ahem! Ten copper coins! No matter if it's a big illness or a small illness, the price is the same! No more, no less!"
Qian Wan shouted.
Hearing this, many people crowded around Kei's side. Even those who originally intended to go to Li Shenyi's group switched sides.
"Miracle Doctor Li Shenyi! The true heir to the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles! Get treatment now and receive a free Heart-Nourishing Pill!"
"Also, each treatment is only ten copper coins!"
People who heard this immediately rushed back to Li Shenyi's side.
"I've been doing business for so many years, and I've never been afraid of anyone! Let's see who's better!"
"Traveling twelve cities! Fame spread over ninety thousand miles!"
"No need to buy expensive medicine! Your issues will be fixed right away!"
"Headaches, fevers, marital issues, even lack of... you-know-what! Once the Divine Doctor makes his move, everything is cured!"
"Women with dull complexions and rough skin, our Divine Doctor's treatment will make you bloom like a lotus!"
"Only today! Only for one day! Come if you want to experience the difference!"
Qian Wan's voice boomed throughout the market.
"You... You liar!"
"False advertising!"
"You're making wild claims without any basis!"
Li Shenyi's followers were left speechless and could only start hurling insults. The more they yelled, the filthier their language became.
"Mind your own business! Our Divine Doctor has the skills!"
"Just because you can't do it doesn't mean we can't! You're all just useless hacks barking like dogs!"
"Go home and drink your milk, you worthless lot!"
Qian Wan was like a one-man army. If he had a keyboard, he would be a top-tier internet troll, typing furiously at all hours.
While Qian Wan was arguing with the followers, Li Shenyi was intently watching Kei's treatment of the patients, ready to step in if something went wrong.
"Kid, your acupressure technique is impressive!"
Li Shenyi remarked, seeing Kei's skillful use of acupressure to treat someone's cold with just a few precise taps.
"No wonder people call you a Divine Doctor. You do have some talent."
He had initially heard that Kei was just a conman, but now, after seeing Kei's abilities, he realized there was genuine skill involved.
"Doctor! Doctor! Please help! My child fell from a high place and broke his arm! Please, save him!"
A woman in tattered clothing rushed over, holding a child who was already slipping into unconsciousness.
The boy's arm was twisted in a horrible way, with the bone protruding from the skin. Blood was still flowing from the injury.
The woman glanced between Li Shenyi's group and Kei's, but ultimately chose Kei, whose side had more patients.
More patients meant better skills, after all.
"Please, Doctor, save my child!"
"Don't panic. Let me have a look."
Kei approached and calmly examined the injury.
"Hmm, the bone's broken, and some internal organs are slightly damaged. Nothing too serious."
"What do you mean 'nothing too serious'?! The child will die if not treated immediately!"
"Sure enough, wandering healers can't be trusted! You don't care about people's lives at all! You don't deserve to be a doctor!"
"Give the child to me. I will save him!"
Li Shenyi couldn't bear to watch Kei's calm demeanor. He saw it as indifference to human life.
"Doctor..."
"You came to me, so I will do everything I can to save him."
The woman glanced at the stern and serious Li Shenyi, then at the calm and composed Kei.
In the end, she chose to trust Kei.
Li Shenyi frowned and said, "You mustn't hesitate! This is the critical moment to save the child's life!"
"You can't let this heartless man delay the child's treatment! If I can't save him, I will offer my life as compensation!"
"If this child dies, my life will be yours!"
Seeing Li Shenyi's passion and conviction, many onlookers murmured in admiration.
But Kei remained unfazed. He simply smiled and said, "Such dedication, but also unnecessary."
He knelt down and gently held the child's broken arm. His fingers moved swiftly, precisely pressing several acupoints.
Ripple Energy surged from his fingers into the child's body, stimulating cell regeneration and realigning the broken bones.
The bleeding stopped.
The swelling reduced.
The child's breathing became steady, and color returned to his face.
Kei continued his treatment, closing the wound and accelerating the child's recovery.
In just a few minutes, the boy's arm was completely restored.
"There. All done. Let him rest and he'll be fine soon."
Kei said with a smile.
The woman looked at her child's perfectly healed arm in shock and disbelief. Tears welled up in her eyes as she knelt before Kei.
"Thank you! Thank you, Doctor! You saved my child's life!"
Li Shenyi was completely stunned. His expression was a mixture of disbelief and admiration.
While the medical competition continued, Tushan Rongrong had quietly run to buy some porridge.
When she returned, she gently handed it to Li Shenyi.
"You look tired, mister. This porridge is really good. Please eat it."
Li Shenyi glanced at the little fox girl, then at Kei who was still treating patients.
He let out a long sigh.
"I lost. Completely and utterly lost."
"Everyone, go see that young Divine Doctor. His skills are better than mine!"
Li Shenyi finally admitted his defeat. Speaking those words felt like a huge burden had been lifted from his shoulders.
He sipped the warm porridge, feeling comforted as the warmth spread through his body.
"It's delicious."
He muttered with a smile.
By evening.
"What a boy! He really has boundless stamina. Treating patients the entire day without showing a hint of exhaustion."
Li Shenyi finally understood why the pharmacy owners were so terrified of Kei.
If he stayed in one place for too long, other doctors would go out of business.
A long time passed, and Kei continued treating patients until everyone had been seen.
When Kei was about to leave, Li Shenyi walked over.
"Divine Doctor, there's no need for me to drive you away. You're already leaving."
"I owe you an apology. I believed the false rumors about you and wrongly targeted you. Please forgive me."
Li Shenyi reached into his pocket and took out a book.
"This book contains my lifetime of acupuncture knowledge. I know you are incredibly skilled, but within these pages are all the problems I've encountered throughout my life."
"Perhaps it can be of some help to you. Consider it my way of making amends."
The old man hesitated for a long time before finally handing the book over to Kei.
"Why does everyone love giving away secret techniques?" Kei almost laughed.
"Oh, right. To people like them, their abilities are their most valuable and most prideful possessions."
It made sense. Passing on their knowledge was their way of preserving their legacy.
"Alright, I'll accept it."
Kei didn't refuse and took the book. He then gathered his companions and headed towards the city gate to leave.
Li Shenyi followed them to see them off.
When they arrived at the city gate, Kei and his group walked out of the city.
"Farewell. Perhaps we will meet again."
Li Shenyi said.
"Fate will decide if we meet again."
Kei replied before turning and walking away.
Li Shenyi was about to return to the city when he noticed something shocking.
In the darkness of the night, countless demons were gathered.
"Divine Doctor."
"Don't block the entrance. Follow me to another place."
"Alright."
Kei walked at the front, with everyone else following behind him.
As he walked, the demons parted to make a clear path for him.
When Kei passed by, the demons silently formed a procession behind him, following his lead.
Before long, a long line of followers stretched out behind Kei.
Li Shenyi stood there in shock, mumbling, "This world truly belongs to the young."
