Slowly, Kiba felt himself returning to consciousness. As he began to grasp his situation, memories of what had happened and why he was lying on the ground at the foot of the mountain pass returned.
Kiba had been really excited; he was on a team with his crush. Even though she was from class 3B and he was from class 3A, ever since they met during their first-year sports festival, he had been crushing on her hard. Who was this girl, you might ask? Well, her name is Weiss Schnee.
Since then, for the past three years, he has done everything to try and impress her: getting high marks on exams, being super competitive in joint hero course exercises, and joining her at hero agencies during work studies. Weiss had taken the name 'Heiress of Ice' as her hero name, but most people just call her 'Heiress.' Kiba, being Kiba, chose a name he believed was fancy just for her: WolfGang, like the musician. It's not like his efforts bore no fruit; he was pretty good friends with Weiss currently, but based on his memories of what happened, he might have blown that relationship.
"What was I thinking, charging in like that?" he asked himself, not wanting to face the truth that he hadn't been thinking when he charged in.
As soon as Shino reported to Weiss that the enemy was approaching, he immediately took off. He had already fused with Akamaru during the preparation stage, so he didn't even consider the consequences of his actions and just charged in, yelling something about how he was going to be the number one hero. When he finally clashed with the enemy forces, he became a buzzsaw, tearing through the bots like tissue paper.
However, there were a few problems he missed. The huge number of ranged enemies began to focus on him without anyone to defend against them or take them out. If Kiba had stuck to the plan, he would have had Weiss's ice shields and Ruby's movements to act as support defense against the ranged attacks, as well as both Hinata and Emiya to eliminate the ranged enemies before they could fire too many shots.
Because of this, when the other two frontliners caught up, they were hit with artillery almost immediately. It wasn't super bad at first; it was just rubber-tipped arrows and rubber bullets. But before they could grab Kiba and pull him back, Choji noticed the cannon's presence and immediately increased in size to block the cannon fire from hitting his teammate. Even then, he wasn't fast enough; the last thing Kiba could remember was a cannon firing a red rubber cannonball right at his face.
Now he was lying here on the ground, defeated by his own hubris. Then he heard Choji crying out in pain. Straightening up from his position, Kiba witnessed the overwhelming wave of robotic forces overwhelming his teammates. He wanted to help them, but his canine companion was still unconscious.
Then something happened that forced his hand. Ino was about to be smashed by one of the larger bots. Thinking fast, Kiba grabbed his backup weapons and charged into the fight.
Now, unlike the Exam bots used by the first-years, these third-year robots don't have off switches on the outside of their bodies. This means that in combat, the only way to defeat them is to destroy them.
So, basically quirkless Kiba was not going to be super helpful in dispatching the robotic adversary. But using his normal speed, he was able to get the brute bot's attention and lead it to Weiss. 'Hey, a little help here!' Kiba shouted as he ran past Weiss. 'Kiba, you insufferable fool!" Weiss noticed the robot "Freeze, dirtbag!' Weiss shouted as she froze the brute bot solid. 'I'm sorry for screwing up earlier,' Kiba said to Weiss as he began to observe the area. 'I didn't think about what was happening and Charged in like a dumbass on the first day.' Right as Weiss was about to respond, Kiba ran off to assist Yang, since she was in a similar situation to Ino, and her Quirk was still on cooldown. 'Hey, Yang, I'm sorry for screwing you over!' Even with Kiba's assistance, they were still in a bad position, but right before Kiba lost hope, and he was going to take the complete blame for the failure of the exercise. He heard the voice of a king shouting on the battlefield. 'Spartans!'"
Kiba looked up to see the principal's favorite student, but this was a new form he had never seen before. He wore a clear, golden helmet on his head, transparent enough that you could still see his golden hair beneath it. Wielding a see-through golden spear and a round shield, this new form took the golden spear and smashed the rounded end on the ground. 'We fight for honor and the love of battle!' Behind him, blue ethereal soldiers began to form, becoming vaguely Spartan-shaped constructs. 299 blue soldiers stood behind this king of heroes as he pointed his spear toward the ever-crashing waves of robotic enemies. Half of the constructs charged forward while the other half began creating and throwing blue spear constructs at their robotic counterparts. Kiba watched as the blue constructs gave his teammates breathing room and even began to push back the enemy.
As Kiba watched the 299 constructs begin to suppress the enemy, he noticed the red-headed soldier walk over to him. 'So you're the kid that screwed everything up, huh?' Kiba looked down in shame. 'The others up here,' the redhead gestured to his head. 'They're not happy with you, but personally, I believe everyone makes mistakes, and there's no better place than here to make them. This is a school, is it not? If you're not allowed to make mistakes here, then where else can you make them? This is a place of learning, after all.' The redhead smiled at Kiba as he held out a hand to him. Kiba had recently been thrown around and ended up on the ground. Taking the other person's hand, Kiba introduced himself. 'Thanks for the pep talk, man. I'm Kiba Inuzuka!' The redhead smiled and responded, 'I am Leonidas. It's very nice to meet you.'
Nezu watched as the Spartans began to dismantle his robotic army, slowly pushing them back toward his fortress. They got ever closer to his castle. Soon, there were only 10 minutes remaining in the exercise, and Nezu decided to give Leonidas a real challenge. He smiled maniacally as he began to activate his metaphorical dragon. This was the third year's equivalent to the zero pointer. Each one was made differently and uniquely so that the third years could never get used to them. Today's elite bot was designed to emulate the Gorgon from Greek mythology. Nezu smiled as he released his metaphorical greeting card into the world so it could fight Leonidas.
The robotic monster of madness charged towards Leonidas, ordered to target him specifically. As it rushed at him, it smashed and crushed any bot or construct in its path.
Noticing its approach, Leonidas warned his teammates before rushing towards it. He wasn't faster than a normal person and didn't have any type of physical enhancement. In fact, he was pretty normal as far as physical stats went. His real power came from his constructs. As soon as he entered the clash with the robotic Gorgon, he extended the back of his spear construct into the ground, giving the spear lift as it began to attack.
Similar things happened with his shield, as it expanded and contracted using the ground to reinforce its defensive position. Since Leonidas only had the strength of a normal nine-year-old child—granted, an extremely athletic one, but still a nine-year-old child—he had to use his constructs in creative ways to resist the strength of the robotic Gorgon.
Luckily, he wasn't fighting alone; his teammates jumped in to damage the Gorgon's robotic form whenever they got a chance. Nezu, realizing this fight wasn't working, decided to change up the Gorgon's strategy. He quickly had it retreat behind his forces' lines before activating its ranged options.
Beams of concentrated energy were shot towards the defense team. Both Weiss and Leonidas blocked as many of these beams as they could, but their defensive options kept breaking. Finally realizing he would need to go all out, Leonidas dismissed his constructs of the Spartans and created 300 golden shields to block the oncoming beams.
The Gorgon couldn't do anything against these construct shields, and soon it was running out of time—only ten seconds left on the clock. Nezu decided this was enough; he had got to test the durability of the new alter and observe its quirk. Right as he was getting ready to push the deactivation button, Nezu saw a flash of light blasting from the shield construct. With two seconds left, Nezu watched as a golden spear impacted the chest of the Gorgon robot. As it wailed in mechanical fury, it slowly fell to the ground and deactivated. Finally, the exercise was over.
== Writers note
And this chapter is over! Honestly, I really liked writing this chapter. Last chapter I was dealing with clear writers block this chapte I had so many ideas. because they were ideas on how to fix the last chapter. Well, not how to fix it but how I could've written it so instead of rewriting that other chapter, I decided to leave it and instead switched to Kiba's POV. And explore why he screwed up and his character because I kinda just glossed over him as a character. I kinda gave the good boy Akamaru More of a spotlight than him. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed see you next time.
