Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Special

["We're here today with Ryker Vale, otherwise known as the 'star of luck'!"]

The reporter nudged the teen twiddling with his fingers behind the flickering camera – edging him to speak up on national television.

["..."]

A coy smirk pushed the young teen's cheeks back through the silence as he enjoyed the fame and glory through the screen.

["Theway I did it was simple, I relied on my 𝘨𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴. I felt something inside me, you know?"]

["It was telling me to just keep going for it, and I did. I never even knew the lottery tickets that I chose were the 𝘫𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘱𝘰𝘵 ones."]

The reporter blinked in shock, his jaw slightly agape as the teen next to him shined his bright teeth in a prideful grin towards the camera.

["Did you hear that everybody?! Ryker won three lotteries at his young age just based on his gut feelings! Is this a moment of cheats, or a show of true, pure luck?"]

The reporter continued, milking each part of information for every last drop.

Can you guess who the boy was? The one who won those awesome three million jackpots in the sameweek?

"Pft,"

It was me. I was the one on national television for draining a bank of nine million bucks!

I was able to pay off my college tuition, my previous rent, buy a new car and a house in a nice neighborhood.

"-haha! Oh, man..."

Even after re-watching the video of me on T.V, I still can't stop snickering at my response. How can I not?!

I grabbed the remote, exiting the channel as I lifted myself from my couch with rejuvenated energy.

'Groowl..'

Then, my stomach growled – a testament to my forgotten hunger.

"Right. I didn't eat today. Should probably get a quick snack,"

I opened a nearby cupboard, the place where I would usually indulge in... many unhealthy items.

"-empty."

Moving onto the fridge, I was only met with heightened disappointment.

"Wow, it's empty. Didn't see this coming. How am I a millionare but still fail remembering to get groceries?"

Rubbing my new, marbled countertop one more time – I took my house keys and thick wallet to head out.

I had some oddly high hopes that'd somebody would recognize me from the news and see how blessed I truly am,

-but to my dismay, the way to the convenience store was packed with nothing but minimal cars on the road close to the building.

"Sigh..."

I accepted my broken dreams and walked through the doors of the store.

The employee leaning against the wall behind the cash register greeted me with an exhausted 'welcome', before he widened his eyes and straightened his posture.

"Wait, it's you. You're that Ryker kid who bought three of our lottery tickets and won all of 'em, right?"

That's it. That's the recognition I wanna see!

"Haha, yeah! If it weren't for this store, I wouldn't have gained a penny."

I gave him a wide, bright smile – playing it cool and humble. He stared back at me, a feeling of unease spreading through my body as we locked eyes.

"That's right... It was because of me selling you the tickets here that you won, huh?"

He stepped closer towards the register, a sly hand reaching under the counter.

"Well... I guess so. Thanks?"

Something inside me begged for me to dash out and never look back. A gut feeling that had brought me anything I'd ever wanted. A gut feeling that was always right.

He had started smiling behind the counter as his finger hovered over the keyboard to the computer that handled the security cameras.

His other hand stayed under the counter, waiting.

"I-... I have to go."

I had to run. Run and never come ba-

'BANG!'
