They arrived at the room and found Julian on the bed, fiddling with the IV stuck to his arm, looking seconds away from ripping it off.
"Don't even think about it." Riley warned, her tone sharp.
Julian froze, caught red-handed. He looked up, eyes wide. "I wasn't going to. I swear." He raised his hand in surrender as Riley moved to check on him.
Alex lingered by the door, her hand clenched at her sides in hesitation.
She almost turned back.
She couldn't look at Julian for too long without guilt clawing its way up her throat. The image of him lying on the ground, bleeding and unconscious, burned itself into her memory. She had been so scared that he wouldn't make it.
Everything that happened was her fault. She should have been the one hurt. Karen had been aiming for her, not him.
He was only trying to protect her and ended up in the hospital again.
She didn't move closer and watched Riley check his vitals, her heart pounding in her chest.
