Chapter 17 - Mana Burst [1]

Draconic Bloodline.

A bloodline that only the player character had, and even then he only unlocked it with his bloodline limit.

It would make the user several times stronger than before if said user was a human....

But, there was always a catch.

The user's lifespan would be cut short.

"Why?!"

He asked.

No one answered, he was alone.

A normal human's lifespan was 80 years.

An awakened was 100+.

"Is this thing playing with me?"

He asked to no one in particular.

Why give someone 20% draconic bloodline just because they introduced themselves to a bunch of students?

It made no sense.

Draconic bloodline wasn't something that was supposed to be obtained so easily, even with a cheat system.

Arthur rubbed his temples.

"Why?"

He murmured.

He continued to stare unblinking at the screen.

"...."

Nothing changed.

The screen did not flicker once nor did the information that it displayed change.

Arthur ran a hand through his hair in an attempt to calm himself.

"Maybe I can ignore it."

"...What the?"

It almost seemed like it was mocking him here.

He let out a sigh as he picked up another pen.

Arthur stared at the screen in front of him.

He hated this.

Even though he was young, he one of the strongest awakeneds in the empire even though his strength had been sapped.

It wasn't the kind of reward he wanted.

It was like a loaded bullet pointed directly at his future.

"I didn't want to live long anyway."

He managed a humorless chuckle.

That was a lie to himself.

A horrible lie.

'But didn't I want to?'

He thought.

He actually did want to live.

That was why he trained daily, that was why he killed without hesitation, that was why he was alive today....

"Maybe not."

The rhythmic tapping of the pen against the table resounded in the room.

He had calmed down to a considerable point.

His lifespan was going to get cut short.

Regardless of how much he reacted, even if he went down on his knees and pleaded it wouldn't do anything.

"I have to prepare the students for the test."

He murmured to himself, suddenly remembering.

The shock of the sudden reward had made him forget about it, he had two different tests that had to be given to two different sets of students.

"But...."

He hadn't come to terms with the knowledge yet.

He hadn't really accepted it yet.

The player character, mc, would have about 300 years of his lifespan gone, but when he mastered it would have 200 years.

Why?

Because, with his bloodline he managed to become a full dragon.

Arthur on the other hand, had 20%.

Even though the amount of years wouldn't be as absurd as 300 years; a lifespan that he wasn't even sure he would live for, it would be a heavy price.

A price he didn't want to pay.

"Damn it."

He did want to live long though.

For Celestine's sake, after their parents had died.

Not only that, but he had promised a handful of people that he would live for a long time.

He frowned.

'One minutes.'

Not only did it not sound right, but it also didn't feel right. Not for something that was supposed to be held as a system.

It corrected itself.

Arthur stared blankly at the screen, choosing to ignore it.

There was only a minute left on the timer.

It would be best if he just did it.

Arthur let out another sigh, staring in resignation at the screen in front in him.

"Accept rewards."

He said.

For a moment, nothing happened, almost as if it was ignoring him, or he might have not said the right keywords.

Could it be that the way to check descriptions and accepting rewards were different.

Arthur outstretched his towards the screen that had popped up.

The screen in front of him glitched for a moment, and he felt a slight tingling sensation that spread throughout his entire body.

It was like a light electric shock spread out through his body.

It wasn't painful, rather more like a tingling sensation.

"What the hell is wrong with this thing?"

Firstly, it gave him a bloodline that would shorten his lifespan.

Secondly, when he finally decided to accept it, nothing he did worked.

"Strange."

He didn't feel anything....

For a moment.

Then, the pain crashed into him like a tidal wave.

Arthur's vein lit up, almost like they were burning through his blood.

His chest tightened.

His muscles tensed up, then relaxed all at once.

It was unlike anything he had ever experienced. He knew pain – both physical and emotional – but this, it felt worse than any physical pain he had ever experienced.

And that was something.

His breathing turned ragged as he struggled to take in oxygen.

But even then, the air felt heavy, too heavy.

The pen he was gripping broke.

Even his eyes felt like they would burst at this moment.

"Haah. Haahh. Haaah."

In a minute the process was finished.

He took a deep breath.

Then almost instantly

Arthur didn't register the words, he could hardly see, his vision was blurry.

He took in another deep breath as the world around him slowly began to get clearer.

Arthur stared blankly at the screen in front of him.

All the pain was gone, he couldn't even feel any joint pains.

Almost like he had never experienced it in the first place, it was a weird experience.

"200 years gone."

He murmured.

He slowly got up from the chair and picked up the broken pen.

He smoothed his clothing out and stepped out of the office.

Then, he slowly walked away.

"...."

Arthur was definitely going to vent on his students
