Chapter 4 - Eerily similar

The next morning, once Zoe finishes her breakfast, she steps outside, trying to avoid waking the others. Since she arrived in Hell, she had always seen it as a bad place with lava pits and volcanoes. However, now when she looked around, Hell wasn't bad because of the red tint in the sky and the stereotypical fire pits. What made it bad was it was eerie. It's easily similar to the real world. Similar in so many ways. Cities are crowded with people. Cigarette smoke and the scent of drugs and alcohol clung to the already poisoned air. Streets littered with garbage and junk sinners no longer wanted nor needed in the first place. And worst of all, sinners getting exploited by each other from left to right. Everyone is here because they were naïve and reckless in their old life. Most people go on as if they never died once they got to Hell. Some few people though, try to redeem themselves and make their lives better. All children of sinners are born into the human world to decide their own fate. "It's not like we're going to die again." People say the stupidest things so calmly like it'll be like this forever. Free range and all the drugs in the world -for the more fortunate ones- and the rest of eternity to do whatever the hell you want. Here, one wrong move and it's over. Here the vending machines are for drugs and cigarettes. Here, a normal drink is about as hard to find as drugs in the wild before they get put through everything on Earth. Here, drugs are drugs. Real shit and not artificial like the shit on Earth. People have no sense of stopping anytime soon once they make it here. However, being here for 4 years without selling your soul is considered lucky. Once you sell your soul to the wrong person, the rest of existence is worse than stereotypical Hell. Zoe's mind continues to rant on and on, not showing any signs of stopping or at least slowing at all.

~an hour later~

Zoe lays in her bed, reading when she notices the small ferret nudging her. "I never named you did I?" Zoe asks as she sits up and holds the tiny ferret in her lap. "What about…." She pauses thinking. "Madison. Maddy for short." She watches as the ferret nudges her, seeming to like the name. "Maddy it is then."
