Darion and Devra stared at each other for several moments. Darion could see the fire within his wife's eyes and he knew he had a lot of explaining to do.
"Devra-" he began.
"The only thing that should be coming out from you is an explanation Darion. What's going on?" Devra cut him off.
"And I'm going to explain." Darion nodded as he rose from his chair and approached her.
"How can you possibly be walking?" She looked at him, still in shock.
"That's a long story." Darion scratched the back of his neck.
"Good thing we have time then." Devra retorted as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"I meant what I told your family. I'm in the favour of the war god." He said in explanation.
"How did you possibly come to being in the favour of the war god?" Devra asked, her brows scrunched in confusion.
"I can't explain it myself. One moment I was sure my life was about to end and the next thing I know I'm able to stand on my own two feet." He explained.
That was as best as Darion could possibly explain to his wife.
He couldn't tell her he was the war god, certainly not now.
She wouldn't believe him just like everyone else.
Devra regarded her husband with cold regard, she didn't know what to make of him.
"The war god has been silent for several years, why now?" She asked and Devein shrugged.
"Your guess is as good as mine." He commented.
"Does this have anything to do with your usual disappearances?" Devra quirked a brow at Darion.
"Not exactly." He replied vaguely.
"You'll have to do better than that Darion." She scowled at him.
She watched him closely, waiting for him to explain but Darion merely stared into her eyes.
"You haven't changed one bit." She scoffed, shaking her head.
"Have you given my offer any consideration?" She asked and Darion's features immediately darkened.
"We aren't getting divorced Devra." Darion all but growled.
"Yes we are. This changes nothing, I don't want anything to do with you or your stupid favour from the war god." She retorted venomously.
"I don't want a divorce De-"
"Well I do. We have wasted years in whatever this is. This isn't a marriage and I'm sick of your mysterious disappearances and reemergence whenever you feel like it. I want out." Devra roared.
She was seething.
The man should be happy she was giving him a way out especially now that he was no longer a liability.
"I want to try to make this work. You said before that I could barely take care of myself but now I'm more than capable of taking care of others. Let me take care of you." Darion's eyes locked with hers and she looked away.
"I don't need taking care of Darion. I have everything under control." She retorted.
"How about your company?" He asked.
"What about my company?" Devra quirked a brow at her husband.
"Are you going to merge it and hand it over to Gary?" Darion inquired.
"I don't see how that is any of your concern." She replied cooly.
"It involves you, of course it is my concern." Darion frowned at her.
"Look at you playing the part of a caring, affectionate husband." She mocked as she rolled her eyes.
"Think whatever you want but I don't care Devra. I mean everything I'm saying and even if you don't believe me, I guess we'll just have to wait and let time tell." He informed her.
"I don't want to stick around long enough to find out." She gave him a sardonic smile.
"For heaven sakes Devra." Darion exclaimed frustratedly.
"You don't get to come back here and act like everything is fine Darion. I have been miserable for the last three years and I want out. This was not a love match so you don't have to act devastated." Devra replied heatedly.
Darion ran his hand over his face, this conversation with his wife was proving to be more difficult than he thought it would be.
The woman was hellbent on getting divorced.
"You know Tony and Gary won't relent until they have your company right?" Darion tried to steer the conversation in a different direction.
"They can try but they certainly won't be getting it and I'm not some damsel in distress that needs rescuing Darion. Stay away from my company." Devra scowled at him.
"I trust you just as much as I trust Gary." She continued and Darion ignored the pang of hurt which spread through his chest at her words.
"I have a plan to help you keep your company." He announced, ignoring her words.
"I just said I don't need your help." Devra said but her eyes said a different thing.
"You can stand here and play tough but we both know how conniving Tobias and Gary are. You'll need all the help you can possibly get if you want to go up against them." Darion shrugged and Devra's scowl deepened.
She knew he was right but she would never admit that to him.
"What do you propose?" She asked him slowly.
"Like I said I have a plan that's sure to ensure you remain the owner of Helios industries." Darion informed her.
"What is this plan?" Devra inquired and Darion sighed, eyeing her cautiously.
"I can't divulge it to you right now, I just need you to trust me." He said.
"You must be mad if you think I'll trust you blindly Darion." Devra looked a him in bewilderment.
"I know it sounds crazy but trust me, I have your best interests at heart. I just need a little time to put somethings in place." Darion explained.
"In the mean time let's put a pause on the whole divorce. Just give me a little time." Darion added when Devra remained silent.
Devra contemplated his offer and who was she kidding, she needed the help and from what Darion offered she had nothing to lose.
"Don't make me regret trusting you Darion." She looked him in the eyes as she reluctantly agreed.
